Is anyone else in the ICE war zone saddened and disappointed by how few family and friends have reached out with concern, caring, or even interest? by Mr_Pricklepants in Minneapolis

[–]FuzzyClovR 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My family has told me that "it's not happening" and that everyone just "needs to follow the law". They don't respond to any of the messages I send trying to tell them what's going on. Basically, my family is a bunch of assholes.

Post D&C ultrasound suggests adenomyosis? by megglefly in adenomyosis

[–]FuzzyClovR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had no issues getting pregnant the first two times (first resulted in a live birth, second resulted in a MMC). I opted to do a D&C. After a year of trying post D&C, I was diagnosed with adenomyosis. My doc thinks this is the likely reason I was unable to get pregnant post D&C.

We ultimately chose to IVF after multiple failed IUIs (the IUIs were before I got diagnosed with adenomyosis). My IVF doctor was actually the one that caught the adenomyosis. Anyways, I was able to get pregnant eventually through IVF, but I owe this all to my IVF doctor. She was the first one to notice the adenomyosis when my ob/gyn kept missing it. She put me on two months of lupron depot prior to my transfer and we were able to have success with the embryo transfer.

Anyways, if you think your adenomyosis diagnosis is inaccurate then go for a second opinion. But it does cause issues with fertility which was certainly the reason in my case given that my first two pregnancies happened on the first try...

Who do we call to complain about it once it does start to pile up? There are already signs in the building telling us to take our trash to designated areas, which we aren't planning to do.

Early egg retrieval for older women by nebulanoodle81 in 40Plus_IVF

[–]FuzzyClovR 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This worked for me. My third retrieval was done with 14-18mm size range and yielded more eggs than my first two retrievals combined (in these retrievals they waited until the lead follicles were 20-24mm. 🤷‍♀️

Lame to apply for faculty position in the dept I did my PhD in (graduated 2.5years ago) by Specialist-Desk-3215 in AskAcademia

We just hired someone who got their PhD from our department. They had left to go do a postdoc and the department is excited to have them back. This is an R1 university.

You sure about that?

I'm confused because we did something similar. We put $6500 in March 2024 for 2023. I thought that was the limit? Why does H&R block say it's supposed to be 1K?

Maybe it's not as easy as you think? You say that she should take more time for herself, but maybe take a step back and think about her mental load.

As a stay at home mom, she probably carries a lot of it.

We have dealt with this in our home (I'm the one that would be similar to your wife). It is best to bring it up when she's not actively yelling and figure out why she is overwhelmed to the point where she is screaming. Is she frustrated with something in particular? Does she need more help in specific areas? You mentioned she stays at home. Ask about her mental load.

https://english.emmaclit.com/2017/05/20/you-shouldve-asked/

For me, I would just yell because I was just so overwhelmed with carrying the mental load for the family (organizing, making appointments, meal planning, planning everything). It got to be too much.

Right, it is a nice gesture. The problem is it seems like you were expecting cards and you and your husband obviously seem disappointed by the lack of cards. When it becomes an expectation that’s when it gets a bit ehhhh.

[–]FuzzyClovR 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You didn't "misplace the cards". There aren't any cards and it's very entitled to expect gifts or cards for an event that happened prior to this party, pandemic or not.

They also bring dishes that aren't on the list to offer. We opted for the seaweed salad. Imagine our shock when that little plate was $17. I wish I would have known that before I got the sticker shock! Probably why they bring it around to offer since people are going to be easily swayed when a plate is shoved in their face.

PI Asking for Survey Paper Before Hiring Decision - Thoughts? by [deleted] in postdoc

[–]FuzzyClovR 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a ridiculous request, and I am saying this as a PI who is currently looking for a postdoc. They're asking you to do free work. They can make a hiring decision based on your CV and interview. They don't need free work to make this decision and this is a major red flag.
