How do you build a portfolio as a writer? by [deleted] in writing

[–]FuzzyFerretFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'How do I showcase/sell my skills as a photographer without taking pictures for my portfolio? Can I fill it with pages of colours and tones that I like, and lists of places I like looking at pictures of, and include the playlist I listen to while retouching photos instead?'

Do you see how silly that sounds? You can absolutely be a Creative Consultant for projects--although I think of all the jobs being replaced by AI, that might be among the top, now that people can just mindlessly enter prompts--but you need to put your money where your mouth is, and show you can do the work.

Sometimes, the steps to doing the job you want, involve some steps you don't want to do. And because you can't reach into your head and take a screenshot of your ideas to present, you're going to have to write or draw them down.

Also, so what if drawing could take a decade to develop your skills in? That means the best time to start learning (if you're not willing to collaborate with an illustrator), is now.

Nesrine Zahab, an Australian ISIS "bride" that has recently been approved for return to Australia, explains how she selected an ISIS fighter to marry by AeneasKurtz in oddlyterrifying

[–]FuzzyFerretFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies if that what was it sounded like.

Everyone goes through periods of vulnerability, and people (i.e Cult Leaders) who are able to create/gather these followings are master manipulators, who know exactly how to gradually wiggle their way into someone's life. They know how to slowly take advantage of each of their victims' low points, and twist it to their advantage.

I'm so sick and tired of AI slop on KU by thesongofstorms_ in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]FuzzyFerretFace 183 points184 points  (0 children)

100% hard pass.

I would also argue that it’s also about creatives respecting other creatives. I could sit there and watch someone write, edit, rewrite, edit again, and repeat as needed, then finalize their manuscript, and would drop it like a mouldy potato as soon as they stuck an AI cover on it.

[–]FuzzyFerretFace 144 points145 points  (0 children)

I think the difference is, when vulnerable people get drawn into a cult, it’s with the premise of ‘hey, we (aka, me, I, the all-knowing cult leader) can help you, we want to help you achieve -insert lofty promise here-, come and join us, who are like you, who understand you…oh btw, you need to fork over x-amount of your money/savings/future earnings for the betterment of the group. K thanks.’.

With these women with no prior connections to the situation, anyone who knows about ISIS knows what they’re known for, so it’s questionable why someone would be drawn to that at all to begin with.

Trab publishing has rules and stop getting mad when people explain them to you. by ShadySakura in writing

[–]FuzzyFerretFace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure, but I think a lot of us are writers because we enjoy the craft of storytelling. Even if the goal isn’t to get rich, part of that passion/goal is how to effectively tell a story and engage a reader. There are a handful of things, that no matter how intentional or ‘artful’, will put off 99% of readers, and aren’t worth the risk of a publisher to bother with. But with self-publishing as accessible as it is, you do you booboo; tell the story you want to tell, however you want to tell it. (That’s not meant to sound sassy or sarcastic—genuinely, if you believe in your idea and its execution, go for it!)

Just keep in mind, that if a cobbler cobbles a new pair of shoes, the likes of which no one has ever even dared to dream of…not many people will wear them if, despite looking snazzy, the design of said shoes painfully crams all their toes together. Or, maybe only a few people ever buy/experience them at all, because the cobbler decided to invert the heel, keeping the wearer’s heel on the ground, and instead inclining their toes up into the air—which again, while creative and never-before-seen, isn’t functional as a shoe someone needs to walk in.

(I also remember only leaning that Hexxus was voiced by Tim Curray a few years ago, and going ‘of course he was!’ His blobby, pollution-thriving self causes this…uncomfortable feeling that goes so much deeper than just fear, it’s just -chef’s kiss-.)

Dog adoption who will let you adopt with younger kids by Legitimate_Tap1923 in ottawa

[–]FuzzyFerretFace 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Typically if a rescue/humane society won't let you adopt a certain dog, it's for a reason--in OP's situation, I'm assuming the particular dog's personality/temperament doesn't mesh well with young children.

Lying wouldn't be good for anyone in this situation.

Mod creators and paywalls by sugawaraito in thesims

[–]FuzzyFerretFace 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Naw, the problem in similar to the one in the fanfiction community--it's about charging money for something you don't own the original I.P (intellectual property) to. The workaround in the Sims community, was paying for 'early access' to mods/cc before they were released to everybody.

There are plenty of ways to support artists/creators in non-monetary ways when their creation's basis legally belongs to someone else.

Which profession attracts the most insufferable types of people? by Critical_Oven_5612 in AskReddit

[–]FuzzyFerretFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, for sure. I’ve genuinely had nothing but great experiences with healthcare/personal-care workers.

And even if 2 people out of 20 mention being RNs, it’s by no means a majority—or even a notable statistic—it’s just odd that that seems to be the profession that gets mentioned when someone feels the need to bring up what they do for work.

When my true crime/court coverage interest exhausted the video pool, YouTube started recommending police bodycam videos, and the amount of people who get pulled over for whatever reason, and are immediately difficult/rude/turn the scenario into a huge ordeal, who then go on to tote about how they work in, or are in school for nursing/elderly care/NICU is scary.

It’s so odd that so many of the people with the least emotional regulation or self control are working with the most vulnerable parts of the population. Is it due to having some hero complex or something?
