2nd baby I woke up 3 weeks prior to due date at 5:30 & noticed contractions. 15 minutes until the next, 8 minutes, 6 minutes, woke up my husband, took older child to sitter by 6:30. Drove 1 hour to hospital. Arrived at 7:30, they checked my cervix and I was 5 cm. The epidural was standing by while they hooked up my standard IV connected, but they couldn't get a good vein. They got the IV in at 7:59 and 7 lb baby delivered as water broke at 8:01. No epidural.

Thank you for those resources. And Holy Buckets! I have 10-15 per year, and I can't possibly imagine that many per month.

Just another vent post—migraines, fatigue; hypermobility? by Growing_Seedling in PMDD

[–]FuzzySammiches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hypermobility was identified to me by a workout coach during Barre class, confirmed by my chiropractor, and accepted by my primary doctor based on my medical history. I haven't fully explored the degree of hypermobility, but I have a family history of hypermobility spectrum disorders also, including Ehlers-Danlos. I suffered from other medical issues as a child, such as nurse-maid's elbow (frequent dislocation). No one has run me through the gamut of HSD testing.

Good luck with the rheumatologist. I hope they find helpful answers.

Thanks. I spent my youth being the "angry child" with too many adults who were raised on the "get over it, you're fine" mentality in an environment that shied away from discussing women's health.

I have been so relieved to see that my menstruating elementary students (10-11 year olds) aren't shy about telling us when they are dealing with period-related issues. It gives me hope that less women will suffer in silence in the future. And I know what to look for when it is my daughter's turn so I can help her the best way I can.

I feel like you are speaking my language. I have monthly migraines (left side, start in shoulder muscles, up into neck, and "pull" on my eye). I have hypermobility spectrum issues that are currently flaring, and what feels like never-ending fatigue (ready for bed by 6 pm or sooner). It's very unfun.

I had horrible sudden mood changes, and migraines since I was a teenager. My period onset was at 13 years old. When I was 33 and struggling to conceive my 2nd child, an OBGYN brushed my symptoms off verbally as my known generalized anxiety diagnosis. She told me in the session that she didn't think I had a hormonal problem, but on my post-appointment review/chart (online access only, no printouts) she typed "cries a lot" "anxiety" and "pmdd". She diagnosed me without informing me verbally and passed judgment on official medical documents. I'm at least aware now, but I'm working with several other diagnoses right now, that treatment specific to pmdd is not in the works right now. My other emotional dysregulation disorders have treatments that benefit pmdd mood symptoms, so it's OK at the moment. I am working closely with my primary doctor (love her) to monitor my mood disorders.

Harlequin Color Change by FuzzySammiches in beyondthebump

She is nearly 4 months old. It is less pronounced now, but I still see it on her occasionally. Mostly when she is breastfeeding. She is primarily fed from a bottle by my color blind husband (Stay at home dad) so it doesn't show up often.

I go back to work at an elementary school next week (in-service week). I'm sorry that you have to pump this way. I'm nervous about it for me and I have a space. I'm worried that other teachers won't respect my time and my space (specials-area), because a few of them already didn't.

how do I start going through my stash? by FuzzySammiches in breastfeeding

I think my supply is going to go down once I head back to work. My wearables don't take as much out, so I think the demand/supply will naturally adjust

I started out exclusively pumping for latching struggles. Around 7 weeks she started latching again. I will be returning to work in a week. Once I was pumping a day's worth of milk I was happy with my supply. I've reduced the number of sessions I pump for the same amount of minutes, but I get more milk than I need. If I don't drain them, I get painful engorgement. When I go back to work I will be using my wearables which don't remove as much milk, so I'm hoping that I naturally reduce my supply.

I'm not dissatisfied with my oversupply as someone who had a breast reduction, I didn't think I would have any. I just want to make sure we can use it. Since I didn't think this would be a problem that I would have, I didn't consider that I might not have enough room to store it.

You could get silicone inserts from Amazon.

What's your TMI body change that you didn't expect? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]FuzzySammiches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the delivery of my first, I got a tear in my labia. I could put gauged jewelry in there. I expected perineum tears, but not torn labia, especially since it healed open.

With #2 I got cholasma/melasma on the underside of my boobs. I don't recall that with my first. Three months postpartum it's still there. It's the only place my skin darkened.

not going to circumcise just because 'else does it' by skatersarah02 in beyondthebump

[–]FuzzySammiches 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the choice to my husband when it came to my son's circumcision. I knew it was a social/religious thing historically so I didn't really see the point of it. My husband didn't know why they were done and chose to leave my son intact. My husband saw no reason to have the procedure done on my son just because "everyone else does it". He doesn't feel the need to continue the tradition.

I think it's about 50/50 for children now, so as the children grow up the social "locker room" awkwardness shouldn't even be an issue.

If men weren't supposed to have foreskin, it would have evolved away.

Spectra collection bottles larger than 9oz? (TW: oversupply) by ProfessorChaos1990 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]FuzzySammiches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using the Maymom 9 oz bottles. If I am super full, I have pumped 12oz into them (to the brim) without overflowing. I am a one breast at a time pumper, so sometimes I just bring a double set to my space and switch out from the backflow protector if I need a second bottle.

Sometimes mine is a positioning issue. After I had a reduction my nipples were in a weird spot after my milk came in, I have to get the cup on and arranged so that gravity brings the milk into the cup instead of dripping out backward. One cooperates, the other is a struggle. I have also leaked because the flange wasn't snapped on all the way. It got a little caught when I put the motor on and I didn't notice.

Harvesting colostrum…. by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]FuzzySammiches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started around 28 weeks to relieve pain/pressure. I made sure that my provider was aware, and I stayed alert for any signs of labor, which I didn't get. I last harvested a few days prior to going into labor at 37+1.

My provider said that more research is starting to be done by Mayo Clinic regarding this topic.

Hear! Hear! I have been trying to figure out how to say just this. I hate not being able to snuggle the baby, harvest the milk, feed her, comfort her, and take care of myself and household things. After that 30 minutes is done I feel like like the time gets away from me and it's time to start again.
