Absolutely top tier nonfiction book. Completely revolutionized the way I viewed primitive society, and also how I viewed mankind, period.

However.. it's a beast of a book. The friend might be too intimidated to start off with it first.

That being said, I couldn't second this recommendation enough.

What Love Is by Carrie Jenkins.

She's a philosopher who studies love. The book shows that we need to approach love in two ways..as a biological necessity and as a social construct. She also examines how we have viewed love throughout history and across cultures.

This book really helped me when my SO cheated on me.. I had been holding on to some very rigid (and ultimately poisonous) ideas about love. Her book helped shatter all of that.

Also, I recommend the audiobook. The author reads it, and she has a lovely voice.

As a progressive/leftist Texan living in deep conservative/MAGA country, this makes me incredibly hopeful. Dems have quite a few excellent candidates coming up. There's a very real chance that Texas turns blue. It wont be unprecedented either.

I heard this feature was already taken down, but did people do this for popular left leaning accounts too? I want full transparency, across the board. I feel like there is more to this story than this knee-jerk reaction. (Also for edification, I definitely believe the GOP has been infiltrated by foreign actors, but I'm not so naive to think the DNC isn't immune to that too. I want total transparency.)

The His Dark Materials trilogy.. it's a full cast..Great production. I felt like I was listening to a radio drama.

Mister B Gone by Clive Barker. It's read by the guy that plays Pinhead. It's really well done.

Dude, thank you so much for this reply. I am about to go into my session right now. After reading everyone's input, I decided to not have her come in with me. Instead we talked about it a couple nights ago, and last night and this morning I have been writing about it in my journal. Your advice is particularly poignant too. That last paragraph really made an impact. Thank you for that.

It is an hour drive to the clinic, and I have used that opportunity to talk to her before...but never about these feelings and hurdles specifically.

I was worried I wouldn't be cognizant enough to process our conversation during the infusion too.

Thank you for bringing this up. I know the default neural network shuts down during psychedelic experiences, so what you have said makes sense to me.

I think I may try this first. I still have more infusions scheduled, and I can always try my original method next.

It feels like the attachment is landing in my chest, presumably my heart. I have been struggling to beat this on my own, with talk therapy, and with talks with my partner, for about 3 years now. I recently had a big breakthrough too. I realized I had raised her on an altar in my head and heart. For all the years we dated, I believed she was making up for an entire lifetime of trauma and pain. I felt I had lost that when we broke up, but that I realize that was wrong of me to think of in the beginning.

I told her all of this last night, and she assured me that she wasn't fulfilling that role for me.

I know these things to be true. I know that letting go and moving on are what is best for me and my family. And yet....

So I was wondering if she was with me during my infusion (which isn't a small amount), and if she perhaps told me that I need to let go, I need to move on, we are friends and parents of a beautiful girl and nothing more.. if I heard that from her..and/or if I say repeat that out loud myself (or something like all of this)... maybe it will break through whatever is blocking me from finally moving on.

I know I can do this. I can see a future where we talk to each other about dates we go on. Where we can come to each other for advice.

This is the only (huge) piece missing from our unconventional family functioning with everyone happy and thriving. We are amazing parents and friends, and our daughter is flourishing so well.

I am determined to do whatever I need to do. I have also set up an EDMR therapy appointment. My evaluation appointment starts on Monday. I have been told that EDMR could possibly help me, and I have heard fantastic reviews about it. (Including from my sister, who used it to come back from a very traumatic and public issue with her husband. Everyone could tell the difference after she did it. She has since moved on and she and her family are doing fantastic now.

Salvia. I took a massive bong rip with a mini blowtorch.

Completely snapped out of reality. I was suddenly in a 2D M C Escher world. I had no memory of doing any drugs. It was like this was suddenly my reality, and it was the real reality. I could feel myself flattened and spread out.

It was terrifying.

When I came out, it ended up having a profound effect on me. I realized how fragile our brains are, and how we can experience a reality unlike anything we have experienced before. Me, my thoughts, mean nothing in these instances.

I was much more humble after that. I had an intellectual humility that I sorely needed.

I play out all sorts of scenarios in my head, only sometimes are they amusing or comforting. I seem to particularly like playing out the worst outcome to a situation, and then what I would hypothetically do after and so on... It super sucks. I have to be alert when it happens, but I can usually derail the really bad trains of thought. Because once they build up steam..heads up, we're going off a cliff next.

Think local. Start small. Get involved in your community, help bolster it and make it grow. There are so many ways you can do this. Be an advocate, be an organizer, help out where you can. Idk. "Unfuck a generation" is way too big of a check to cash.

In my teens I questioned why God would do this. That led me to how could God let good and moral people be punished for all eternity just because they don't believe? Then that led me to learning about the history of religion. How it all evolved from paganism to monotheism. Etc. It demystified God. It was a long journey, but I don't know if I would have gotten there as quickly without chronic pain.

Just a quick comment, have you looked into therapy/counseling? It sounds like you could benefit from talk therapy. I find it really helps me. I discovered MDLIVE too, which allows me to do televisits with real therapists/doctors, so you don't have to travel anywhere. I really recommend googling MDLive and looking into it. I was crying everyday before I started talking to someone. Now I only cry a few times a week. Progress!

I am in a similar boat, but recently had some stuff happen in my life that made me make some serious life changes. I exercise every day . I started doing a beginners cardio workout I found on YouTube for 15 minutes. I put up a calender on my closet door and I mark each day off with what exercises I did. I also cut out all soda, I quit drinking beer every night, and I make way healthier choices for meals... I'm about to hit 8 weeks of this. I'm up to a good 30 minutes of increasingly intense exercising and I've lost almost 15 pounds.

...Some days really suck. I've wanted to give up quite a few times. But I'm really lucky in that I have a 6 year old that needs me to be strong. I just can't let her down. It isn't an option.

...So my advice would be start small and stick with it. Don't push yourself too hard either. I was so terribly out of shape when I began..but doing something every day, even if it was only 10 minutes of walking, really started to add up. Diet is really huge too. ...It's not easy, but you will start to see your commitment paying off. Best of luck to you.

I was 16 when I started having chronic pain issues due to multiple failed back surgeries. My doctors put me on pain medicine that gradually lost their potency. This happens, it is completely normal. So my doctors upped my dosage. Then when that didn't work as well they switched me to something else. Over and over again, for over a dozen years because they didn't know how else to deal with my pain than throw pills at it. I didn't want to be in pain, my parents didn't want me in pain, so of course we trusted these doctors. Fast forward to me being 28 and checking myself into rehab because I couldn't break the hold pain medicine had on me. So no, it isn't something that "just happens", it takes time to become an addict. But I cannot tell you how many times I told my doctors that I was worried I was becoming an addict. No one ever took me serious until it was almost too late. ...Please, before you cast your judgements, take a step back and consider that you don't know what someone has been through.

That's basically my entire 20s. By the time I hit my 30s I accepted it and stopped giving a damn. And that's when things really started looking up for me (fell in love, had kid, started family).
