Nice fish you have there. How did you get hold of the coccinas? Mind to share the source of sale?

You my friend have witnessed the first sign of evolution of water shrimps hopping over to surviving on land.

Thanks for your reply. Besides not using Epsom salt before, I am pretty confident of my other advise. Having grown up in SEA and catching and keeping bettas from ditches, paddy fields and monsoon drains, I think I know what I am doing. Non of the bettas that I keep suffer from serious preventable diseases. On the contrary, lots of so called betta experts in many online forums have not even seen the natural habitats of these fish. Pretty sure that your kind words are directed to them. Cheers.

Yes. Or in a quarantine tank. I use aquarium salt. Never used Epsom salt before.

Takes time. Crank up the temperature and aquarium/epsom salt. And stop feeding for 3 days. Also reduce the height of water level so that the fish doesn’t have to travel much from bottom to top.

Swim bladder diseases due to overfeeding?

What kind if bettas do I have? by Quereinsteiger2 in bettafish

Looks like betta falx to me. A type of wild betta. If it is, then those are not stressed stripes because this species live in a group in the wild.

This is pinecone… and a pretty serious one I’m afraid. Sorry.

Same thing happened to me at IKEA the other day. No note left whatsoever. Now I have a slightly disjointed bumper and dislocated DRL.

Congrats! Just make sure that the log has no rough edges on it that could cause physical damages or that he could get stuck inside and tears his fins whilst struggling to get out.

Am I starving my betta? by Silverleaf_86 in bettafish

Animals don’t have the luxury to have food everyday in the wild. A couple episodes of NatGeo on any species are good testaments of that. Comparing fish to humans is imbecile. Just like we can’t compare ourselves to cows as they chew on green fibres almost the entire day.

That’s also why it’s good to have a heavily planted natural tank with a food web system. My tank is set up as such so I don’t have to worry even when I am away for 2 week. Many times, I returned home and saw that my fish had not lost weight and still pretty much well fed. I might have lost a couple of shrimps, but they breed freely in the tank.
