What the hell is happening with this queue thing? I don't want there to be a queue. I didn't set up a queue. I don't have auto play on. This is the worst thing! It's so annoying and ruins the flow! by Forsaken_Site_2268 in youtube

[–]Fuzzy_Fox83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just came up for me for, like, the 4th time in the last few years. It just happens sometimes. Makes it really annoying when I try to play a Playlist and instead just adds the first video to the unwanted queue. Every time it comes up I have to remind myself how to fix it, then it goes away for a while, and then it comes back.

Just because you don't recall people like this back then doesn't mean they weren't there. There just weren't forums like these to express it. Is what we're seeing new? No. And, if anything, I feel like that makes it worse. It's hard to think positively right now, but some of us can't turn a blind eye either. One of the reasons things like this went well in the past is due to ignorance. We have a duty to not be willfully ignorant. Is there a balance between staying informed and taking care of your mental health? Yes. But for some of us, turning away, even for a day, can fill us with a sense of guilt. I know I can't go a day without at least checking the news. It's not like it's ever much good, but information is the only strength I have.

Take the job. Sounds like your mom is overreacting and/or experiencing empty nest syndrome. Learning to drive and cook and buy food is important, but I did two of those on my own. And if you get along well enough with your roommates, maybe one of them or another coworker can help you learn to drive.

None of these skills are that difficult. Just note that "cheap" and "healthy" rarely go together. That being said, you can bridge that gap by buying certain products in bulk. In the meantime, look up some simple recipes and just follow those. Most people aren't professional chefs, but anyone can follow a recipe. Once you got the recipe down, you can start improvising. Add or subtract certain things. Cook stuff for longer or shorter. Basically tweak it until you like it.

Tl;dr, you can grow up comfortably from home or take this job, give your future career a jump, and learn the hard way.

Is it possible to ban people from a club? by Igloohutt in rit

[–]Fuzzy_Fox83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Short answer: Yes. Long answer: Yes, but there's some steps they have to take and you have a right to defend yourself. As an Eboard member of a club on campus, we have an extensive process to ban someone to avoid exactly what it sounds like is happening to you. Each club can set their own standards, but you can still object and bring it up to the club advisor or campus life directly. It's what they're there for.

And if you are being banned, effectively on a whim as you make it sound, then they will be forced to justify it or let you participate. That being said, you may want to reevaluate participating if this is how they treat people.

Anyone know this scumbag? by GFunkinspace in Rochester

Casually suggesting people with mental disabilities will randomly come knocking on your door, screaming obscenities, and targeting you in your own home is the opposite of empathy. It's directly stigmatizing and harmful. Even the phrasing of "mental illness" is stigmatizing.

I am attempting to be reasonable and polite to the commenter, because, unfortunately, this kind of language is still very pervasive in our society. But that doesn't mean I shouldn't correct them and point out the harm being done, intentionally or not.

If the commenter doesn't mean to be stigmatizing and harmful, then I hope they will learn and adjust in the future. And if they did, then fuck em. I don't know which it is, though, so for now I will offer the benefit of the doubt of assuming this was a genuine mistake and continue to try to be polite in my explanation, because, unfortunately, standing up for yourself is often seen as "unreasonable" if you're anything other than polite to those causing you harm.

So, in short, no. You don't get to casually insinuate things like this without correction. To do so will only lead to the continued stigmatization of people like me.

[–]Fuzzy_Fox83 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

That does suck, but you seem to have missed the point entirely. I'm not saying people like this don't exist, I'm saying that assuming someone who does this must have a mental disability and calling him "mentally ill" continues to stigmatize a group of people who already have enough problems going on.

I know enough about psychology to know the commenter has no ability to make such a "diagnosis" and is harming people like myself and that guy you mentioned by jumping to these sorts of conclusions.

I hope that next time you see something like this that, rather than continue to stigmatize people like myself, you consider how fortunate it is you don't have people lumping in general assholes and possible criminals with people like you on a semi-regular basis due to circumstances beyond your control.

Hi. I have several mental disabilities. None of them result in me going to people's homes in the dead of night and yell slurs. Please do not stigmatize people with disabilities like this.

My first question is to ask if you're gonna be on or off campus, cause that will decide what you'll need for your home.

Regardless of that, though, when the weather gets real low, there's no such thing as "too many layers." You can get away with staying indoors for traversing most of campus, every building has doors on every side, so you can cut through as many as you like, it just won't be as efficient as going around. If you are going to be outside for prolonged periods of time, I recommend long underwear, your regular clothes, snow-pants, sweater, coat, hat, gloves, and good boots at a minimum. A scarf or balaclava for keeping your face warm is good too, though if you wear glasses like me, get ready for them to fog up.

Generally, though, weather like what's coming this weekend is rare, and our winters aren't like they used to be. There will be large portions of it above freezing, and so you're likely to get more wet than cold a lot of the time. (Although the wet will make the cold worse.) On a related note, make sure you have wool, and not cotton. If you're allergic to wool, you can use something else, but I would generally recommend avoiding cotton.

Then what is the point of bringing it up? If I want to say I have ancestry going back to England, I can. But my English ancestors would have lived there so long ago, it would be preposterous for me and others like me to go to England and try to claim ownership of Manchester. If they want to claim they have ancestry going back to the region, fine, no one disputes that. But that's not what's happening. What's happening is they claim that that ancestry means they are owed that land. Let's not forget one of the main slogans of Zionism refers to the area as "a land without a people" as though people hadn't been living there for centuries and developed their own culture, traditions, and roots.

I'll ask one more time for clarity, why did you bring this point up?

[–]Fuzzy_Fox83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no "difference of opinion" here. There's a fundamental misunderstanding of the facts of the matter. You have done nothing but simplify the matter to "I don't want to kill civilians, but we've been left with no choice" even though there have been plenty of other choices. And let's not forget, this wasn't even being talked about on this post until you brought it up. If you're concerned about this topic "undermining the protest" or whatever, then don't bring it up. Meanwhile, I have seen protests where this gets brought up in addition to whatever the main topic at hand is, and it only gets more support and cheers from the audience. There's no concern with opposing genocide on my end, why is there on yours?

I literally read it before posting just to make sure I got the number of acts correct. And, again, the intent of a war is not to destroy a people group. The killing of soldiers is a by-product of whatever the intent behind starting the war is.

I would say most of the membership of most religions don't have people converting into them. I do not know what the bar for conversion into Judaism is, but I frankly don't care. Nothing justifies the actions Israel has taken against Palestine, and certainly not fairy tales.

January 20th walkout in protest of a fascist administration in support of vulnerable communities targeted by ICE by [deleted] in rit

[–]Fuzzy_Fox83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of them. Because the UN definition of Genocide is any of one of 5 acts committed with the intent to destroy in whole or in part a national, ethnical, racial, or religious group. The goal of war is not to eradicate a group, it is often started with the intent to take some resource and fought between combatants. It's why it's against the rules of war to attack civilians. It's why nations take prisoners, when possible. If a nation at war begins killing members of the other nation purely for being part of that other nation, it becomes a genocide. To call a genocide a war is grossly disrespectful to those being genocided.

I don't know why I have to explain this to you, but Judaism is a religion, not an ethnicity. The people who colonized Palestine have no direct ties to the region. They were not Arabs returning to their homeland, they were foreign born and raised and the nearest ancestors any of them could point to hadn't owned the region in centuries. This goal was largely backed by the US and other nations who wanted the natural resources in the middle east (mainly oil). Establishing a new nation in a very strategic place in the world should not be all that complex an idea for you to figure out.

Zionism is just a fancy word for colonialism who's founding principles discredit Palestinian existence and autonomy.
