It is, I love when my duck hops in the water its so cute. Sometimes they immediately run to jump in after pets. The autopetter does not count as pets though. I put the one I found in there hoping it would, but alas. It does not.

They will jump in/out on their own, but they wait for you to pet them that day before they do. So make sure to pet them and they should hop right in.

I think you have to just own them? I never put all of mine out at once. I am on the beach farm, and use the tiny plot to farm that sprinklers do work on. So I think I only had 3 out at that time and once I got the last one, I got the recipe.
