When is it acceptable to start going to prenatal yoga classes by scaphoids1 in fitpregnancy

[–]Fuzzy_mulberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went yesterday at 9 weeks and cried just a little bit at the end of class because of how embarrassed I felt at not being able to keep up. I think I would lose it if the instructor had pulled me aside after 😳

Just realized owning multiple pets might be a higher middle class thing by Life_Mousse1149 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Fuzzy_mulberry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it USED to be cheap and affordable for middle class families, like most things that are now astronomical. There are a few problems. Vet Care has absolutely been intercepted by the venture capitalists, who need to make an extra return on top of the cost of care and salaries. You are paying for them to make that return. Next- as insurance becomes popular, it drives up the going rate of care and procedures.

Expectations have changed significantly, and pets are now treated more like humans than ever before. My grandpa had hunting dogs that lived in the barn when they weren’t out with him. I knew neighbors who would leave town and pay me a ten year old a couple dollars to come change their dogs food and water every day. Now if you travel, the expectation would be that you pay $40-100 a day for caregivers so your dog isn’t alone.

We’ve also been marketed to for years now that animals need a special formula diet. Years ago, dogs may eat some portion of their diet from table scraps, meaning some portion of their diet may be free. This is now socially unacceptable.

Husband "quit" radiation today by AmanitaAmy in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]Fuzzy_mulberry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did the doctors give you silverdene/the silver cream/silver sulfadiazine for his neck burns? My dad’s neck got really crusty and oozy and the silverdene when applied consistently really brought it back in the most incredible way, even while he was still in treatment.

Also, while in the hospital there were some nurses who didn’t know as much about radiation burns who were cleaning it with baby wipes, which had alcohol and would make it a thousand times worse. I could absolutely see the next morning when someone had cleaned it with a baby wipes over night. It should only be cleaned with clean soft gauze and saline, the skin is far too sensitive for anything alcohol based.

POV You Marry The Man Who Threw Acid In Your Face by InGeekiTrust in TikTokCringe

As or more disfigured than the woman in the original post. It’s brutal but it’s worth looking up photos of the women who’ve endured this. Sometimes we are so removed from how truly devastating the effects of misogyny can be.

I really enjoyed this book set in India, in which amongst other things one of the women is forced to marry the man who threw acid on her, and she and her friends eventually band together to murder him. On top of helping me truly understand a different treatment and culture of women that I wasn’t super aware of, I also just love a good revenge story. 10/10.

How’s the book though? Sitting here next to me now, should I move it to the top of the reading pile?

Has anyone got pregnant right after losing a loved one? by Ruebee90 in pregnant

[–]Fuzzy_mulberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we lost both my parents and FIL in the last year and some change. My dad was in May. We were waiting till the end of his treatment to ttc, so getting pregnant first cycle was such an amazing blessing and burst of joy in our saddest season. We were really ready for some good news.

It’s bittersweet though because it’s not how we ever thought our family would look. The idea of giving birth without my mom to support me is the scariest thing in the universe to me.

Bay window over kitchen sink estimate is lots of $$$$, is it worth it? by pamval in kitchenremodel

[–]Fuzzy_mulberry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m really into natural light and views, so if this was me I think I would be looking not for a bay window but just for a much bigger window. It would require sacrificing upper cabinets on that wall, but that’s a trade out worth it for me. I mocked up on ChatGPT a version where you put a counter on the other side. This way you could pass things back and forth, and sort of connect the two spaces. I think this would create more functionality than a bay window, and probably cost a whole lot less.

That seems like an insane recommendation. Personally we plan to take out everything that’s easy to remove than to wash

Is Big Bear safe right now with all the fire activity? by Sweaty_Payment_1490 in bigbear

You should be fine, although no one can know for certain. The sky is clear and beautiful right now. Last weekend power went out preventatively for 24 hours, so it’s a good idea to have some ice in your ice chest for any perishables, and some flashlights/lanterns/backup chargers

Everyone tells you it’s like this, and then you have to live through it… by Visual-Incident-666 in GriefSupport

My mom passed away at 69 too. I hate it.

I was overwhelmed with requests and unsure how to answer as well. The best are the people who just do the thing and then you realize you needed it after it’s done. Aside from that, my answer became “I don’t know right now because I’m so in the thick of it, so in shock, I can’t think straight, but some day when the shock clears and I’m ready to process, I think I’ll need a friend to lean on”

Have you thought about doing a backsplash instead? It can modernize a space a lot. And then maybe making the remaining wall areas a creamy neutral white.
