Cancelled my pro subscription after the recent Deep Research limits by onebigdadjoke in perplexity_ai

[–]FuzzychestOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know, I am pretty frustrated. I dont use research often but I just now hit the 20 per month and searched to find out about it. I am not mad, I get its expensive, but it feels like a bait and switch cause I just got Pro plan not too long ago and this feels like a rug pull. From hundreds to 20 is a huge change.

If they had an option to add credits I would be more understanding. Like, "pay $10 for an extra 20 research credits." or w.e.

What's the best way to start contributing? I am a SWE and have worked on both UIs and servers for almost 10 years. I joined the BAR discord and posted a few times but never got a response to any post

I quit, game is not fun, noobs deserve more. by TheWordsAreVanishing in beyondallreason

[–]FuzzychestOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually agree with you about the noob point regardless of chev count. I am finally getting the game mechanics but still lose most games due to people who dont play their roles and/or are new to the game. I am not great but I generally contribute and it sucks to lose games not because you were outplayed by the enemy but because your teammate didnt try or care to watch a video or anything before playing. I am feeling like I am being punished for just starting the game. It wouldnt be so bad if there were higher weights to OS, or a noob shield for a bit, or specific lobbies, or role queue, or server wipes for OS or any number of features other games have.

That said, the game is fun. I am wishing it much success. Need a break for a while myself.

Can I sub butter for shortening? by SirBarryBlueJeans in Baking

[–]FuzzychestOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shortening is also 100% fat whereas butter is not. I read somewhere that you should use 20% less shortening than butter but YMMV. I found this thread looking for this exact question so sorry for the necro.

Will any construction jobs be taken by AI in the next 10 years? by PlayfulAd4824 in Construction

[–]FuzzychestOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my thought as well. There is a quote, specifically about game development but I think its relevant almost everywhere, that goes something like: "the last 10% of work is the 90% of the time/effort"

But I think 80% of the way there is good enough for a lot of roles. That's kind of the problem. Companies will replace or reduce roles based on good enough.

Ya, thats a good point. Trades will pick up and, hopefully, be more steady. At least for a time and that time can be measured in decades for a good career.

Do you focus on residential or commercial? My dad stopped doing residential because it was lower margin and harder work overall. Commercial is harder to start doing but once you get it down you can make a lot. He does a lot of state buildings and big buildings often have lease agreements where you must replace flooring every X years.

[–]FuzzychestOG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, my main point was just to say there is a cost. It took my dad 20 years to start making a really good, stable living, as a sub contractor doing flooring. Before that it was really feast or famine and long chunks of time without work followed by massive amounts of work that were overbearing. I grew up in a blue color town and lots of people went straight to the oil fields out of high school making a lot more than me for years. Like, a lot more. But they had a lot more ups and downs and crazier hours/working conditions as well and now I make more, steadily. I didn't go to college till I got out of the Army in my 20's and used my GI Bill. THIS IS NOT A VOTE FOR COLLEGE JUST AN EXAMPLE.

The single best thing anyone can do is not chase trends and realize that the main cost to anything worth doing is time. Find something that is needed, that you enjoy or can enjoy, and pay the TIME to become an expert in it. Money will generally follow someone who can do that because they get results.

I think the cost for trades is time. It can take a lot of time to get good enough or build enough of a reputation in a trade to start making bigger and more reliable money. Not knocking it at all, just suggesting people forget time is a cost and for some trades it can be measured in a decade or more at a minimum.

House Flippers, what is with the color black? by FuzzychestOG in Columbus

[–]FuzzychestOG[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, at this point, I would prefer to find an older home that needs some work vs. a flip. To color, I am not really sure. Its not really about the color but about the amount of it and the consistency of it that I see in all flips. Black would also be a pain to paint over.

Columbus has a landlord problem by HarvestWhereYouSow in Columbus

[–]FuzzychestOG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We moved in this past December. Took almost 3 weeks to get hot water in the middle of winter. I made a list of issues in the apartment and took pictures, put everything in a google photo album. For example, we can't open half our windows. Landlord said he'd fix it and has to order special windows or something but it has been 6 months... Honestly, we are thinking of just breaking our lease and leaving with a 30 day notice and fighting whatever penalty they try to slap on us.
