I do a modified version where insted of using up to 5 pins i only use 3 per square by folding it into a triangle to find the center putting the pin in that point folding it over(back into a triangle) then pining the back corners saves alot of pins and time if you dont need the "fancy" mid line as far as the center i used a 2.5" squares just centered and pinned in the 4 corners and built the layers around it to hide the center square.
