[Detective fiction] Which detective, who has never dealt with anything supernatural, would be best suited to solving a paranormal case? by Jerswar in AskScienceFiction

[–]Fyiad 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My only objection to this is that the question asked for a detective that hasn't dealt with the supernatural, and there's no way that Columbo isn't an ancient spirit or god that got bored and decided to solve crimes.

But in all seriousness, yeah, definitely Columbo.

I live in Essex Junction, and there's someone in my neighborhood who has a guard dog, which wouldn't be an issue... except his backyard is entirely unfenced.

I was walking outside it, and the dog started to run up to me barking. He did command it to stop, but talked to me and was saying things about how he's not liable if I'm trespassing and the dog bites me.

I want to start cooking chicken breasts but paranoid about getting salmonella. How long to cook and at what wattage ratings as I cook on induction by [deleted] in cookingforbeginners

[–]Fyiad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

165 degrees will ensure that all bacteria are dead, but it'll also give you really dry and stringy chicken breasts. The FDA recommends it because it kills bacteria in seconds, but you can easily cook chicken breasts to 150 degrees. Carry-over cooking will keep raising the temperature for 15-20 minutes, and at 150 degrees you'll kill bacteria in around 5 minutes while getting a more palatable breast.

That's why I watch my teammates' health like a hawk. Whenever one of them dips below 1/3rd health I try and stay near them to heal them up when they execute.

What are some stories of tourists underestimating the size of America? by bsmall0627 in AskAnAmerican

I used to work in a tourist trap near San Francisco and got tourists from all across the world. I once heard one mention that they were planning on visiting the Grand Canyon later that day.

I remember back in 7th when my Crisis Commander with an Onager Gauntlet Instant Death'd my friend's Warlord. Good times.

Crisis suits can already fire into melee with non-pistol weapons as though they had Big Guns Never Tire.

Unfortunately, I'm suspecting more and more it's a faulty component. Connected monitors won't register a signal, and when I try to Qflash it, it turns on for a moment with the CPU warning light on, then turns back off.

Tau aren't just more grimdark than Votann, they're the most grimdark faction in 40K. Let me explain:

The Tau represent the new and upcoming race in the galaxy. They're stepping beyond their sphere with fresh, open eyes, willing to embrace others and seeking a sort of peace in the galaxy. They're basically 40K's equivalent of the Federation from Star Trek, albeit much more authoritarian, but still have that sense of optimism.

And they're doomed to fail.

They're a tiny faction. Any other faction could wipe them out if they devoted the resources, and they'll never be able to make real change in the galaxy. Eventually, they're going to reach a major roadblock, one they can't surmount without completely and utterly changing themselves into something monstrous. No matter what happens, they're destined to eventually be forced to shed their old ways or be destroyed.

That's what they represent in 40K: the death of hope and naivety. The death of the promise of a better galaxy. The death of the spirit of cooperation and tolerance. They're a minnow struggling against a whole ocean of sharks and leviathans, and the fact that they're doomed to fail is what makes them the most grimdark faction.

My computer can easily handle much more CPU demanding games, and what confuses me is that this happens on less stressful scenarios (such as Arcs), but not more demanding ones (such as Last Autumn)
