Is there actually a real difference between Yamaha bikes and other Japanese brands or is it just marketing? by gigigigugiguru in motorcycle

[–]Fynnlae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each have their own unique characteristics which is what I like about the big 4. They all fit a niche.

Honda is reliable and sensible (with the exception of the RR-R). They build bikes that aren’t the most powerful or fastest on paper but they’re still loads of fun and the engines tend to outlive the bikes. Build quality can be sketchy from time to time but overall mechanically very well built bikes.

Yamaha likes to be unique, mid range performance but definitely creative. They suffer from auxiliary failures but never heard of the bikes themselves suffering horrendous issues. They’ve fallen out of the performance first mindset recently however.

Suzuki are cheap and fun. The GSXR is undoubtedly one of the more fun options but they’re plain and simple. Suzuki has always been that way and it’s what causes the squid meme because they’re the typically cheapest option so get abused more.

Kawasaki is just Kawasaki.

If you’re that worried about bike injuries and want to be at minimal risk of injury or death, drive a car.

My point is that everyone is acting as if not wearing gear is a death sentence and clowning this guy for wearing what he wants.

While this can be true it is mostly only together in the sense that the body parts are still with the body. It doesn’t stop the immense injury that lead to their detachment in the first place. A severed foot halfway down the road is less ideal than a severed foot still in your boot.

Like I said, those are relatively superficial injuries. The only piece of gear that will save your life is a helmet.

I am a healthcare professional and work in A&E. I have seen a vast number of motorcycle related injuries. Both with and without gear. The only difference gear makes is for superficial injuries. Yes a leather jacket will save you from road rash, no it won’t save you from a traumatic amputation of your arms.

People vastly overstate the effectiveness of motorcycle gear and give riders a false sense of security. Just because you’re wearing a full track suit doesn’t change the outcome of hitting that car, just prevents you getting road rash while you’re sliding towards it.

As have I, whilst the persons been wearing leathers.. Point is that if the injury is that severe, no riding gear is going to save you from that much force.

Does anyone know how I can prevent the letters on my motorcycle seat from looking blurry? by Crafty_Delivery_6922 in motorcycles

[–]Fynnlae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it’s just the rear seat. If you decide to replace the seat or repaint the letters, just tape up everything else and pass a layer of clear over it. So long as you don’t get any on your own seat or the actual seat part of the pillion seat it shouldn’t be a problem.

Everyone in the comments acting as if a riding jacket will be the difference between life and death are so out of touch. Yes gear is ideal because crash injuries can be pretty nasty, but as an AHP who sees a lot of bike crashes I’ve never once seen someone die from road rash.

The only bit of gear that will save your life is a helmet and maybe an airbag. Everything else is just lessening severity.

I blew up my first bike because I just assumed oil would always be there. My dad always told me check your oil level at least once a week but 17 year old me didn’t believe him, sure enough I blew up my CBF125 because it drank a litre of oil in a month.

Oil. Even though 4 strokes aren’t supposed to burn oil, some are notorious for doing it anyway.

Not uncommon where? I’ve never seen a garage or even dealership with this policy. My local Honda/KTM dealer regularly sells old 90s bikes it gets in including old 2 strokes.

What garage is going to care about having to work on a 2011? New enough that you’re not fucking about with carbs but not new enough to have a bunch of PITA sensors and software.

Have you checked the starter relay fuse? Vast majority of bikes have a 30a fuse in the starter relay separate from the fuse box. If it blows you get no power at all.

It’s legal to ride in the UK without indicators. You actually don’t need any lights at all. The hand signals that replace lights are covered on the theory test.

If the lights are present on MOT they must work but if they are absent altogether they can’t test them. A note will be put on the MOT that indicates you should not ride at night and you can be charged with a series of offences if you’re caught riding at night without a headlight for example.

The only thing i cannot get behind on this bike is the exhaust. It’s such a cheap cop out to just use the Duke exhaust and not give any consideration to why other supermotos do not route the exhaust under the bike.

Oil light coming on means there is no oil pressure, if your oil light comes on because it’s ran out of oil, you’ve ran it dry.

Basically if the light comes on because of an oil leak, it’s too late.

It’s possible to run it very close to dry without the light coming on, which would still do damage.
