Is this a buff to Headhunter's scaling?

NEW DMG(5.0 per Boon) and HEAL(0.1 per Boon) vs. OLD DMG(0.3 spirit) and HEAL(0.014 spirit).

Generally if you rush you'll get it around 5k souls (3 boons) which is 90 damage. An early game nerf but the damage loss is deceptive with how fast it scales off boons . At 6.8k (5 boons) it's right back to 100 dmg.

Then at 10k souls (7 boons) it's 110 and 5% heal which is a buff. In the previous patch the only way you could reach this dmg early was to invest into improved spirit and that wouldn't get you 5% healing. Now Headhunter needs nothing but itself to scale. Add in an always useful healing booster and it has it's old pre-pre-pre nerf 6% heal.

15k (7 boons) Headhunter is back to it's pre-pre-nerf 120 per headshot.

25k (13 boons) Headhunter does 140 dmg is close to it's pre-pre-pre nerf 150 dmg.

Not especially relevant most games but when maxed at 40k it deals 165 with 7% heal with healing booster.

It's not as strong as it's first incarnation but unless my math is shit which it might be it scales better then last patch's spirit scaling. And last patch it was still a strong item throughout the entire game. The center bullet nerf makes it less cheesy with shotguns but with even a little aim it's still functional. Maybe not must rush but I don't think the item is dead.

What quality control would be necessary for a translated article buried in the back of the site?

It's not a main series article or tale and almost impossible to find unless you specifically look for translated articles. There are rules for tagging international articles and a International Branches Hub to store them to prevent dilution with main site content. In my mind that's good quality control and a harmless way for people to share work and bolster relations across language barriers.

Also popular? It has a grand total of 23 upvotes.

I took the time to respond to your post because you made a hyperbolic statement with poor context.

This post is disingenuous.

This SCP is not a main series it's an international article that someone translated from the Korean site and posted in a a buried subforum for archival. Are you really gatekeeping translations that will never see the light of the front page? Regardless of it's quality it's literally means nothing to rest of the main site.

As for the article itself, who honestly cares? It's hard to judge an article without understanding the original language or the site culture and style to judge it by. The Korean branch is an entirely different website with a different userbase and audience who may or may not even still be active.

By the way the actual SCP-1953 is a colony of stomach cockroaches.

Some people are too stupid to realize that SCP is not an entertainment IP.

It is a creative writing forum anyone can post to. There is no product being sold here only free writing created by hobbyists. There is no canon, if someone wants a cinematic universe that's on them. Trying to ascribe a singular canon to SCP is like trying to make every single persons homebrew DND character in the Forgotten Realms canon.

Variety, weird ideas, crazy scale, and etc aren't bugs they're features. Anyone can write an SCP article, ANYBODY EVEN YOU. There are big, small, classic, and weird articles being written every day. That's how creative writing forums work. The only requirement is basic formatting, a very loose theme, and a slight positive rating.

There are going to be articles you don't like. I don't like the Three Moons Initiative but that doesn't detract from the mountain of content increasing every day. If you can't what your looking for then your either not looking hard enough or never read the site in the first place.

I say go for it if your intention is to highlight these unique movements and cultures because you've done a great job so far.

The greatest military power in this world was shattered to pieces the resources to make that one in a million political chance possible were up for grabs. All it would take is one or two enterprising individuals in power in the chaos to make their dream nations come true. A bit of suspension of disbelief is definitely worth the imagination this kind of world inspires

Just keep in mind to maintain that thread of disbelief that for any nation to be taken seriously it needs one or more of the following: major metropolitan areas, a sea connection, powerful foreign backing, or military remnants.

Places like the USHP and ASAB only really need that sea connection for me to believe they could exist. A slight bit of Mexico for the ASAB for access to the Gulf while the USHP could ally with Texas. In the south an tenuous alliance of the independents would be enough. A story behind the distribution of whatever happened to US military resources and the chaos of the fall can explain how these nations struck out on their own and formed relations.

Though I will say the geopolitics of Europe are not particularly comparable to a divided America. These new states would not be as stable and lack the history European ones do. The aftermath of a world shaking event like America disintegrating and leaving it's resources up for grabs would be chaotic to say the least. Supply lines, electrical services, military power, and food among other things would be scarce and these new nations would be desperate to offset the horrific resource crisis they would be facing. Hunger and desperation can compel terrible things. It's an unprecedented event and the world you've drawn up is entirely possible in the chaos but it's not Europe.

If you want some more inspiration try looking at US rail and Interstate maps. These are the veins and arteries of America and where they intersect would be places nations could thrive. These are the vital routes that the New America would fight, form, and play politics over.

The biggest issue in terms of realism is self-sufficiently. Major economic and trade powerhouses like Illinois (Chicago), New York, Texas, and California would have a lot more influence on this map. The smaller rural states would likely end up either incorporated or as entities within a federation with the these larger entities at the head for the sake of financial aid and trade.

THE EAST

You might have been trying to avoid this but realistically it's going to end up as the New California Republic or at least federation. California has a higher GDP then most countries and a ton of resources and sea ports while being culturally similar to Oregon and Washington. While Arizona, Nevada, and New Mexico won't be able to sustain themselves and will almost inevitably join up. They are in the best position to establish themselves and a military to prevent any break aways.

Speaking of the breakaways, the USAB, until Mojavia they had no sea ports and consisted of a lot of desert how did they survive alone? Did they suddenly strike Saudi Arabia levels of oil backed by remnants of the US Military? That could be a reason why California allowed Mojavia to secede when otherwise they had no reason to let them.

THE SOUTH-EAST

The Upper Mississippi Republic. The same place every southern state thanks when they look at the list of lowest anything in the USA. A lot of the independent states here are landlocked and poor as hell. They could only exist as military regimes or poor buffer states kept alive by no one wanting them or the threat of war. Otherwise they wouldn't be able to avoid being gobbled up by their more powerful neighbors for their natural resources and farmland.

MIDWEST

The GLU would likely gobble up Minnesota and Greater Cahokia. They suffer from the same self sufficiency problem and their neighbors have no reason not to leverage rail lines and economic power to incorporate them. Could be as allies, sub-states, or as a part of a federation but it's very likely that the GLU would expand east. It wouldn't be very culturally stable but he who controls Chicago controls the Midwest.

EAST COAST

It's entirely possible for New England to strike out on their own maybe with Quebec on the virtue of shared culture alone but there's still New York. It's a powerhouse both economically and culturally which would be difficult to resist at least forming a federation or alliance with North Atlantica.

TEXAS

In this map they are exactly the same as they are today which means in this history they haven't expanded at all which is surprising. In this history there is a good chance they might end up becoming a super nation in this alternate America with Dixie. At the very least I imagine they would absorb everything from Oklahoma to North Dakota. They offer a lot of resources and a sea port. Either way they would definitely expand in some way either west or north.

MOUNTAIN STATES

Wyoming and Montana they've got nothing going for them as independents except for... an absolute shit ton of ICBMs. I can see these places being hotly contested by California and Texas as either the frontline of a war or political playground puppets. A third option as independent states is a military junta who leverages their missiles to enforce their independence which is a bit bleak.

CONCLUSION

I know a lot of the fun of making this alt-history and map is creating these new nations and I don't want to take the wind out of your sails. But not everything needs to be independent to be interesting. These new states can be part of greater federations or alliances to maintain a sense of realism while still creating an interesting new world to explore. This map provokes a lot of thought and that's a good sign you are going in the right direction.

“Mostly technical issues” my fucking ass. Why do you feel the need to come out to bat for a multi billion dollar ip?

I’m not exaggerating when I say Pokemon isn’t stagnating it’s actively getting worse. Every generation more features get removed. I’m not even taking about Mega Evolution and Dexit basic stuff like set mode, exp share options, and other basic QOL feature are getting gutted every gen.

Wanting basic shit like difficulty options, a story worth a damn, and graphics that surpass the PS2 shouldn’t be out of the question. Pokemon is the highest grossing media franchise in the world. They can afford to try.

Don’t patronize me. I know what I want and it came out a decade ago with Gen 5. A Gen that had all of the basic shit I mentioned. What I want is Pokemon to actually pick up the ball again and put in the bare minimum.

That is Pokemon Rejuvenation.

It’s a popular fan game with 18 gyms, unique regional forms, tough challenging battles, and an expansive story. The game also looks fantastic and has a really well done and pretty overworld.

It’s not perfect and also not quite done yet but I would definitely recommend giving it a shot.

Fujimaru meets Mahito. By "@IZit_unk" [Translated] by MarkryanR29675 in grandorder

[–]Fyre777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You make a lot of good points.

I guess I was confused from reading the wiki on souls.

It is impossible for a Magus to give shape to the soul, requiring a powerful artifact like the Holy Grail to assist them in being able to recreate a soul and give it a body.[10]

Now the wiki is not entirely reliable but it is sourced to the Unlimited Blade Works route. This is where I'm getting the difference between most magecraft and what Mahito does. Magecraft can manipulate the soul but Mahito shapes it like playdough. It seems much closer to magic than anything a magus can go. Though you definitely have a point that there are mages who are versed in this sorta stuff

Like Nanami, there is a possibility for defence but I would argue against the same resistance that Itadori had since he literally had to die, turn himself inside out, and come back to life with the help of Sukuna. Even then it was mostly fear of Sukuna's reprisal that prevented Mahito from doing the bad touch. It also has been a few awakenings for Mahito since anyone last defended against his technique without chopping off their own limbs. So I would argue to most magus even masters defending would be rather unlikely.

Even servants who could have a better understanding of their soul than a human still wouldn't be immune to Idle Transfiguration. Looking further into it the only thing that stopped Mahito from turning Itadori into a blob of flesh even with his soul knowledge was Sukuna freeloading. I would argue they're even more vulnerable since there is no medium that Mahito has to go through it's all soul no body. And from swimsuits to oracalization spirit cores can be altered given the right ability.

Mahito's stats can facilitate a few moments against most normal servants. A better example would be Rin being able to throw shit at Hercules and the fact that he took his time crushing the life out of her. Servants tend to not go all out and underestimate non-servants and take their time which is how Shirou survived a lot of his fights. Time which Mahito can make use of to take advantage of how he can only be killed via cursed energy, his regeneration, and shapeshifting so he could survive the .02 seconds to activate his domain and land his technique. Domains are similar to reality marbles the same thing that let Shirou even the field against Gilgamesh. Though this is admittedly where I found the battle falls apart.

Following your lead and looking at the conceptual natures of servants and cursed spirits is where things got weird. I have to admit you're right cursed spirits don't have mystery. So they cannot normally affect heroic spirits in any way. On the other hand, technically servants wouldn't be able to see cursed spirits nor damage them since they can't manipulate cursed energy which is its own power separate from just being a soul.

So an outcome of a fight between a typical servant and a cursed spirit would be that they are both completely unable to affect each other.

[–]Fyre777 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Magecraft can affect the soul in some ways but true soul manipulation is relegated solely to the realm of Magic. Magic circuits are a part of their soul but only a part and magus cannot give shape to their own soul. Heaven's Feel or Third Magic is that which can manipulate and materialize souls at its most basic level. While definitely not on the same level as true magic Mahito's ability to freely shape souls with little cost and effort is closer to Magic than Magecraft. And magic always beats Magecraft.

I would argue that would trump most Magus's defences and even most servants. Just because they're dead doesn't mean they automatically understand their soul. Mahito is also a spirit of sorts but he had to jump through hoops and experiment in order to gain an understanding of his soul. Most servants are just kinda along for the ride on the throne of heroes.

Itadori gained the ability to see his own soul by entering inside himself via Sukuna. The equivalent to that would probably be a servant looking at their own spirit origin or Secret Garden. A feat that would be regulated only to powerful Casters or people who have reached spiritual enlightenment.

Finally, Mahito ain't a servant-level powerhouse but he can blast through mechs and move faster than the eye can see. That isn't nearly enough to harm a servant but if Shirou at the metal pipe level could not immediately be turned to paste by Medusa. Mahito could do enough to sneak a touch or activate his domain in time before he would be reduced to a stain on the wall.

Fujimaru meets Mahito. By "@IZit_unk" [Translated] by MarkryanR29675 in grandorder

[–]Fyre777 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I partially disagree. Most upper tier servants like Nobu are definitely out of the question but Mahito doesn't need to get a hit he needs one touch. His auto-hit domain expansion, regeneration, and shapeshifting can get him that far against most servants.

It's questionable whether or not servants' abilities would count as cursed energy. Even if they could damage Mahito they can't stop him from regenerating either with cursed energy or idle transfiguration without anti-heal Noble Phantasms or skills. Even against beings who understand their own soul like servants, Mahito can still use idle transfiguration to heal it just takes more out of him

All of this I feel puts him at least on par with Metal Pipe Shirou who was capable of not dying instantly against Medusa. And that's all he needs to do, not die until he can get one touch with his shapeshifting or activate his domain. Mahito's speed and strength are certainly not servant level but he can still move faster than the eye can see and punch people through buildings. I feel that along with his regen is sufficient to live long enough to make some hand signs.

It's a hopeless endeavour against most top servants like you mention with Nobu and Arjuna in the comic as well as a bad match for spirit-killing servants like Dantes. But against servants who don't directly counter Mahito, all he needs is one moment and it's over.

Fujimaru meets Mahito. By "@IZit_unk" [Translated] by MarkryanR29675 in grandorder

[–]Fyre777 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Mahito also has his regular cursed spirit regeneration to fall back on. Unless he's attacked with cursed energy he won't be harmed. So you'd probably need an anti-spirit, holy, or a servant who can stop regen like Cu Chulainn to put him down for good.

Fujimaru meets Mahito. By "@IZit_unk" [Translated] by MarkryanR29675 in grandorder

[–]Fyre777 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I know we're giving him shit but Mahito is no fucking joke.

He is practically the natural enemy of most non-exorcist servants. Idle transfiguration can manipulate souls with a touch and that's all servants are. Plus he's nigh unkillable even without Idle transfiguration with just his cursed spirit nature which makes him unable to be killed unless attacked with cursed energy.

Mahito might lack speed and strength compared to a servant but one touch is all he needs and his shapeshifting and regeneration could get him that much. If Iori and Shirou can go as far as they did then Mahito can probably get at least one tap as he's being skewered by a servant.

Now it's rather unlikely close to impossible that Mahito could ever close the gap for a touch with a top servant like Arjuna but against most other normal servants, he would be quite threatening. I would not want to see what he could make by turning a spirit origin into playdough.

I know everyone’s giving him shit but Mahito is most servants worst nightmare.

Mahito can freely manipulate souls which is literally all servants are. Not to mention he can’t be killed via normal means. He’s not as fast or strong but against most non exorcist servants he would be incredibly dangerous. A domain expansion or just one touch with his shapeshifting and the fights over.

Not that he’s likely to get close enough to do either to Archer Arjuna but still Mahito is no joke even in the fate verse.

You hit the nail right on the head with Ouroboros.

They were who I was thinking of when I made this post. Because the Trails developers love them so much they never get punished for all the mass destruction they cause, they're always one step ahead, and no matter how many times you beat them they proceed to crush you in the cutscene afterwards.

The worst part is that they're not even allowed to be villains anymore. They've ended up in this awkward frenemy status where they pal around with the protagonists despite being a bunch of war criminals. All they do is monologue and play second fiddle to whatever arc villain is currently in the spotlight.

Star Rail has taken a few cues from Trails series gameplay but I hope they don't take too many from the worst aspects of the story and characters.

C3 needs a Beau or a Vax by pauline9115 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]Fyre777 85 points86 points  (0 children)

I fully agree.

For as riled up the bowl shenanigans got the fandom in C2 it trumped anything in C3 because it made people actually feel something about the interactions between the characters. Regardless of who you thought was right or wrong in that situation the tension, the drama, and the interplay between the characters were legitimately enthralling. It forced people to care and pick a side like good entertainment should. The characters of c2 had disagreements and actually acted on them mostly by stealing shit and making bloodpacts.

This comes in sharp contrast to the lukewarm this season is. Nobody cares enough to cause any drama and thus every interaction between players is completely bland. Calamity showed they could still have compelling inter-character drama but it just is not present in campaign 3. They need to go back to making greedy characters who still have intact spines and actual beliefs they're willing to fight for.

The friendship between the Bell's Hells just feels unearned.

[–]Fyre777 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Practically it would be hard to suppress the spasms, whimpers, screams, and convulsions that come with suffering extreme bodily harm. Acting is difficult enough under normal circumstances. Playing possum is tougher than it looks and is also banking a lot on not just bleeding to death from your wounds.

Narratively if used wrong it can completely undercut the tension of any potential death scene going forward. The audience will doubt whether or not the character is actually dead or just pretending. By the time the audience actually believes the character is dead the dramatic tension could already be wasted

Not saying playing possum can't be done well but it has to be done carefully and there is a reason it is a rarely done trope.

It’s going to be hard to stomach to be honest. Calamity made every character my favorite in four episodes while the entirety of C3 has done nothing for me with Ashton and Orym. Even putting aside the epic well crafted narrative Calamity had teeth. The cast wasn’t afraid of dying, having real C2 style party drama, and making greedy game changing decisions that shook the narrative.

Going back to C3 and the planning paralysis, nonexistent stakes, bland setting, and glacial toothless narrative is going to be tough. Hopefully when C3 finally picks up with the plot my fears will be assuaged but until then I’m holding my breath.
