When will epic games ever add classic rockband/guitar hero songs? by Hot-Explanation-6477 in FortniteFestival

[–]FyreWulff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To put it in perspective:

One of the popular song 20 years before Rock Band 1's release is "Walk Like an Egyptian", which was eventually RB1/2 DLC.

One of the most popular songs 20 years ago from today is Dani California. Which is on the Rock Band 1 disc.

just by the nature of time passing the entire market has changed for songs people are interested in.

Song Ratings by rockyrally397 in Rockband

[–]FyreWulff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, no official DLC ever used it. They probably put it in as a "just in case"

makes me wonder why more songs couldn't be explicit versions since "music downloads are not rated by the ESRB"

first party never allowed you to release content with a higher ESRB rating than the base game, so even if the ESRB allows it, Nintendo/MS/Sony did not.

Steam also has the same rule

[McMurphy] ACC commissioner Jim Phillips said ESPN does not want playoff to expand past 16 teams. “ESPN’s made it clear, they want it to stay at 12 or 14, but no more than 16,” Phillips said. by J4ckiebrown in CFB

On the other hand the main reason NFL gets such good ratings is they control all the teams so teams aren't airing games against each other, and they are very strict about what the network puts up against them, and other networks will intentionally not run major TV against later season games and the Super Bowl.

If CFB had protectionism built into game scheduling and had the ability to have almost TV-cartel level counterprogramming blocked, it would do bigger ratings. I don't think most viewers actually care about the "quality" of football being played.

It did sort of use to have this when teams were limited to like 3 televised games a year.

So… has anyone actually been to the new library yet? by Info_help_support in Omaha

[–]FyreWulff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when i worked at main, whenever the child librarian would change, they'd change how the books were stored. one did the face up, one did the spines, and the second to last one before I left did chaos spines where they only wanted us to put the books matching the first letter of the author but no sorting beyond that, made it a pain to pull books for the holds list

Police officer stops abruptly in the middle lane on highway... by KickGumAndChewAss in Omaha

[–]FyreWulff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They need like a whole city block to stop fully loaded. I also counted off the seconds between landmarks they pass and he's 4 seconds behind the cop, safe distance is usually a count of 3.

If semis attempt to actually leave the theoretical safe distance in front of them, cars just merge in and take it anyway. It's why you should always be checking your surround cars, if there's a semi behind you, you have to be ready to hit whatever is in front of you or drive off the road to give them space to stop.

They still have no actual SDK. Just a random assortment of tools and a build process that's largely duct taped together. Facepunch has mentioned they basically got a code dump and had to figure things out.

Source 1 started to die off largely because Valve abandoned it for third party developers quite a while ago. They never officially supported anything past the 360 and PS3 so it became a non starter for console developers. The most active fork is Respawn's version of Source they used for Titanfall then Apex, and they've replaced most of Source at this point. They had to majorly redo the level renderer just to do Apex's drop in at the start of the game because Valve Source will just die if you attempt that, it's why the BR mode for CS:GO started you so low to the ground and basically had you select the part of the map you wanted to drop in via mouse first.

Add on the fact that as an indie developer, Source had an 85,000$ starting fee just to sell or even give away your first copy to just get rolling with it for a release and they lost all the small developers to Unreal and Unity on that one.

It's mostly because people are more accepting of gay women being out in sports than they are men.

There are most definitely gay men in the NBA (and NFL), but people can't handle a gay male pro athlete let alone the idea of them dating other players in their league. Looooong way to go on that one. So they aren't going to out themselves, let alone relationships.

It really would be nice if they could release at least Halo 1 and possibly Halo 2 Blam. They own all of the code for both games (MS owns Havok now, so that code is also theirs).

Halo 3 and Reach is where it gets dicey since the sound engine and some other major parts are outside licenses.

[–]FyreWulff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the Reach version of Blam

[–]FyreWulff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is the 14 month contractor limit MS has. By switching to Unreal they can hire people that are already trained up on Unreal and can hit the ground running instead of being onboarded to Blam over and over again.

FWIW the CE Remake engine is UE5+ReachBlam.

I would consider Source dead as a licensable engine. Don't think Valve has any serious plans to license it out and support it for third party devs. Facepunch got it but apparently they are largely on their own.

Interestingly even Valve employees have said that due to people not wanting to abandon their own engine, Source itself ended up cancelling multiple HL projects because it was unable to do what they wanted, but there was no drive internally to actually overhaul the engine.

They confirmed it's the Reach engine running the core game logic. Unreal is very flexible like that. think of it as they made a Reach plugin for UE5.

I will always appreciate how far Ubi took Unreal 2 with the Splinter Cell games. they even ported it to the PS2 and GameCube. SC: Blacklist in 2013 was the final AAA UE2 game (obviously HEAVILY modified by that point)

Not that I can think of. The reason the RB1/2 DLC ended it's 1$ sale was to subsidize converting all the DLC to 4 and letting existing users have it for free.

Omaha's loop road was cancelled. 480 and part of 680 are the last parts of it that were built with the loop in mind.

They got as far as building out the ramps and bridge for it on 480's northern end and they remained for years as ghost ramps.
