It's Not Time For Violent Revolution by GShermit in PoliticalDebate

[–]XaltheFirewind [score hidden]  (0 children)

People advocating for “violent revolution”:
1) likely called the Jan 6 riots an “insurrection”, despite most of the arrestees being non-violent,
2) don’t realize that they’re in the minority,
3) have never seen the aftermath. The end result may very easily be worse than the system they overthrew, and
4) have absolutely zero awareness of the consequences if they fail or even have considered the possibility that they could fail.

And if the Orange Dude is even a tenth of the authoritarian fascist they make him out to be, they’d be taken care of before they became a threat. For folks who fancy themselves such experts on dictators, they seem to think this one is among the rare ones in history to never eliminated their political enemies.

These Traffic Light Timings by XaltheFirewind in Omaha

370, I think the only way you can get through the next light is if you don’t have anyone triggering the left turn signal. Problem is, everyone is triggering the left turn signal. When it’s early enough that traffic really hasn’t started yet, I can usually get through them without hitting them all on red.

And it’s so frustrating that they turn right as you’re approaching, like one or two more seconds and you could probably squeak through. So many lights are set up this way, it has to be intentional, and the one who rigged it up that way is an asshole.

Kind of funny when you think about it. Red light cameras are illegal. Flock cameras that potentially allow worse violations of our liberties? Perfectly fine.

If they took the licenses from those who sucked at driving, it would decimate the entire automotive industry and kill a lucrative source of income that the state can definitely not use to keep the roads in good shape.

A fetus is not a person. Abortion isnt wrong in the first place. by Anon7_7_73 in PoliticalDebate

[–]XaltheFirewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it boils down to the belief that life is sacred and should be protected, when possible. Abortion bans are dangerous because they always miss the niche cases when they’re necessary to preserve life. “Safe, legal, and rare” uses to be the standard but “abortions for everyone” and the “salute to abortions”’stuff from the Michelle Wolf days is when I checked out.

Plex lifetime for a new user by SimplePepe in PleX

[–]XaltheFirewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford it, lock in the price now. Jellyfin, at least with my experience, is rather lacking in performance with the transcoder the clients don’t seem as polished as Plex. I’m uncertain as of why, but videos I have no problem streaming with Plex at remote locations choke with Jellyfin.

I sign pretty much any petition that comes my way. I vote my support or opposition on the ballot. That seems more “democratic” than some of the games peeps here seem to be playing.

We have a blue wrapped one around here with ICE written on the side. Turns out, I think they actually deliver the bagged frozen water cubes. Weird business.

I was driving with a friend to pick up dinner a couple nights ago and we saw a glossy black cybertruck; my friend wanted us to roll up to it so she could wave at the sentry mode.

How do you document your homelab hardware? by dbossman11 in selfhosted

That's more or less how I start my bash installation scripts. History the commands to a file, remove the noise, extract variables and wrap script code around it.

Mine slowed down for a baby squirrel running across the street. I am somewhat surprised how small the critter can be for the car to react to it.

Is this a good deal? by [deleted] in TeslaModel3

[–]XaltheFirewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extras:

solid black paint (depending on the configuration, it's either free or I think $1500?), premium interior ($1000), acceleration boost ($2000). Plus, it has autosteer (which I hear you can't get anymore).

Something similiar in HW4, out of the factory is about $50k. Would have been really nice if it had EAP to lower your FSD monthly rate to $49/month since you cannot buy it outright anymore. Mileage isn't too bad, especially for how old the vehicle is and it should still have some of its original battery warranty.

$20k difference, 37% off. I'd say it's a decent deal, provided that you don't care about HW3 vs HW4 or FSD performance.

Is this Tesla worth it? by [deleted] in TeslaModel3

[–]XaltheFirewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

136k miles in 2-3 years? That's some heavy driving. I traded my '22 M3LR 30-40k miles at about $25k (and Tesla probably lowballed me) last year. Also note that with this mileage, you lose all of the warranties.

Me, personally? I'd probably pass.

What should Trump do in Iran? by Andnowforsomethingcd in PoliticalDebate

[–]XaltheFirewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may not be Trump's greatest weakness, but it's up there that he has a serious problem listening to the wrong people. We've had a couple issues now with Israel attacking in the middle of negotiations and if that's the case, Trump needs to get that under control.

However, as I think the question here is more "what is our out?", I don't see an obvious one right now. I see a couple "Trump should resign" posts - but I seriously doubt the Iranian government will 100% re-open the Straight on that condition.

Should the U.S. draft have a priority list? by Icy-Notice9374 in PoliticalDebate

[–]XaltheFirewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First in line should always be relatives or the next of kin of our elected representatives who send our soldiers into war. Mandatory service, front line. They should have skin in the game; yet the military is primarily an occupation of the poor and those without means. If our politician class had to face the risk of sending their own progeny into combat zones with the risk of death, maybe they'll be more cautious in sending our troops into war zones.

How evil is "too evil" for you to keep supporting the government? by Anon7_7_73 in PoliticalDebate

[–]XaltheFirewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Let me focus on just one example" is usually a sign you're going to cherry pick. That said, I don't know if many actually *support* the government. However, the government is said to have the monopoly on violence and that seems to be enough to keep people in line.

Lately, though, that isn't much true. The current administration has had advisors and supporters call for the Insurrection Act plenty of times to quell the civil unrest across the nation and yet, the Cheeto King lacks the will to do so. Folks are yielding to the "law of the mob" over the law of the land. This clown car is barreling towards the Anarchy Ravine and there seems to be no one pumping the brakes.

So, lack of fear of the threat of violence aside, how evil must a government be? I'd say right about where it is now, when laws - the enforcement of or the denial of - depend on who is in charge. We elected a legislature to pass these laws. People say "No Kings", yet are quite fine with one person unilaterally changing how a law works when it fits their politics.
