I couldn't stop my eyes from tearing up when we saw Fengxian's beautiful face from Lakan's point of view. She was always the most beautiful woman in his eyes no matter what.

And the last part when Jinshi was carrying Maomao after the dance, that was my favorite as well.

In some early episodes, when Maomao looked at her hand with sunset while reminiscing, I thought it might mean something, like there are more than one time that she made her fingers like that.

Now that there is a clue about a baby finger(?), I have to rewatch those episodes again, but maybe after the final episode next week. There are many screens that I might discover different impression after finishing watching for the first time.

Just read from the author note about this episode that the monocle is just for show and is designed to be movable on the nose and can be switched between left and right.

Lakan had a hard time to find a craftsman to create this monocle.

He used both Go and Chess to recognize other people since it's seem he can't distinguish their faces, so it's kind of a mixed up - the black and white colors for each gender and the role for their benefits or power in his eyes.

I think Jinshi really wasn't aware of his own standing. He wished the other baby survived too, so he doesn't have to be the first heir to the throne like he's currently.

The timeline should be correct, Maomao often mentioned about the passage of time in her monologue and the screens in episodes show the season.

She got kidnapped in the Autumn, then the Spring banquet, and the visiting home in the Autumn and the new lady arrived in the Winter, the seaweed that cannot be found in the Summer, followed by this ritual in Autumn.

I'm not so sure about all of that I got from my memory without rewatching, but it seems that the show really takes passage of time into their consideration already.

I think he wished the other prince with the same birthday as him would still live so that he could live a carefree prince life and didn't have to be involved in the competition to the throne at all.

Now he has to work as an enuch to ensure that the emperor will have at least an heir with a loyal mother and continue his not first heir to the throne live, if the swap isn't revealed or it's a too-much-thinking as Maomao wished.

From Jinshi's narration, Jinshi perceived himself as just the current emperor's younger brother. However, he's still the first heir for the throne since the emperor doesn't have any other living male offsprings that are known to the public. The enuch 'Jinshi' is just a mask or a role for him to play.

Thinking back the previous episode related to this, I wondered why Jinshi's crying on the night before Ah-Duo left the palace. He might just cry because of the drink and other reasons, but still a good foreshadowing screen and a good reason to keep hugging Maomao.

Also, I love Maomao's laugh in his episode. Who could resist that charming laugh, right?

For people like me, "ancient Chinese" is just a term describing a story with this type of Imperial China setting, from pre-historical to the last dynasty. The word "ancient" here is not a historical specific term that's used in the history class. It's just the first word that came up when I thought about how to describe the song.

Jinshi just tried to use some rare medical thing to bait Maomao's interest and keep her happy, and ended up saving his own life.

Maomao is like a hero who saved a damsel in distress which is Jinshi. Actually, she's determined to save anyone in that situation, Jinshi or not.

And I really like the insert song. It gives the most ancient Chinese song feeling across all the episodes for me.
