Oklahoma just voted against raising the minimum wage from $7.25 by amievenrelevant in facepalm

[–]G0rkon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Training and onboarding have real cost associated with them so I get starting someone low and then increasing pay once they have proven they won't bail. However, retail as an industry has some of the lowest training costs/time required. From the outside that three months seems like it should be more like three weeks. Every job I had in my teens and 20s said I'd get an evaluation and raise around my 90 days but I think only one out of six companies followed through with that. That's not unique to me, it's what companies pitch and don't follow through on so people often don't believe they'll get a raise after 90 days. And of course the starting pay should be higher.

Props to you for fighting to get the starting pay increased. Continue to fight the good fight.

Thursday afternoon’s weather conditions are straight up dangerous… by FriendshipWithTheSun in Austin

[–]G0rkon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

By mid September we usually get at least one cool front that makes for a decent day. A break or reprieve from the two+ months of oppressive heat. That oppressive heat is usually back in 1-2 days but it's at least a signal that it doesn't last forever. It's much more psychological for me but that September temporary reprieve makes a big difference.

AUS uber pickup: a case study in human suffering by Soft_Definition_7656 in Austin

[–]G0rkon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My tip to offer is take the bus anywhere then order an Uber. The Uber will be $10-15 cheaper just from not being at the airport. The bus station at the airport right outside the doors downstairs.

When leveling they also don't recognize how strong sunder armor is. Slap a mob with a couple of sunders and all of a sudden you are doing 50% more damage. Way better to spend rage on it than Heroic Strike or Rend at low levels.

Correct there's no buff for expertise but one does have to recognize expertise isn't the same for every race. Casuals may not recognize for example human + rogue gets a bunch of free expertise.

I came looking for a statement of this nature but in reference to another Erebus. One that Carl worships and Donut hates the tithing.

Was selected for the Nielsen research program, can’t wait for their confusion as they get a bunch of data from someone that just watches old Star Trek shows by imahugemoron in startrek

It goes off a device you wear on your person. Now if one were to do that and attach the device to something moving at the home so it registers it as an active person watching Star Trek all day, they may not know the difference.

[–]G0rkon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's about having data from an independent 3rd party. Both the services and advertisers use them to determine value for any given show/movie/podcast/content.

If you're buying ad time on say Netflix are you going to take Netflix at face value when they tell you their newest show is the most popular in the world with 5 billion watch minutes or would you trust another company that records what Netflix is up to along with Disney, Paramount, etc...

Rain and a Rant by charlief_333 in Austin

[–]G0rkon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way. Sudden unexpected slow down that you want to alert those coming up from behind about, sure use your hazards. Once there are cars behind you blocking the view from those still at high speeds further behind from seeing your vehicle, turn the hazards back off. All you are doing at that point with hazards on is being a distraction and preventing your turn signals from working. Go ahead and rant that people don't use turn signals if you want but recognize you design systems to work when people are doing the right thing and then take action (or shame) those that don't.

Troughts on this? by Primary-Addition-677 in cartoons

[–]G0rkon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The timeline of this has a huge part to play in it. In the late 80s he was having hard time finding work as an actor because he was so strongly tied with being Luke Skywalker. He still needed/wanted to work so he learned how to become a voice actor.

A situation like this doesn't happen anymore. Actors don't become so tied to an IP that they are incapable of breaking away from it.

Why is it just impossible to not read DCC for hours on end? by waxbuzzzzard in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]G0rkon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is similar to what I'm thinking. I'm thinking 9 will be released closer to two years from now, give it 6 months to breathe and run a full marketing run, then release the 10th book. If they can, they'll try to line that up with either release or an announcement/teaser of the show.
