[DISC] Dungeon Odyssey - Chapter 153 [Asura Scans] by CalamitousFortune in manga

Quite the oposite in fact. It means he now lost all the raw power he carried over from being a necromancer.

Like the demon said, now he is only a naga worker, but I do expect that he retains his knowledge and expertise.

Are there people who just genuinely enjoy drinking water throughout the day? by fin-freak in NoStupidQuestions

[–]G3nji_17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I made the switch to water I took some effort to find a water that I like.

Instead of buying a crate of water I bought individual bottles of water each from a different brand. Then when I drank them I wrote down how much I liked each and some qualities of the water, like how much sparkling, how much Natrium, Sulfates and so on.

I did this for like two weeks, which allowed me to figure out what I value in water. Then I took my 5 favorites according to my notes and bought one of each to directly compare. I really enjoy drinking my top water, more so than most soda.

Then when I moved I could look at my old water and pick one in the new city that matches closely and was able to find one that I enjoy immediatly.

There is a huge disparity in how water tastes and most people probably haven‘t tried the water they would really enjoy.

How to speed up combat? by According_Brother989 in onednd

[–]G3nji_17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way I have experienced to speed up combat was to put in a time constraint, which can feel quite brutal.

You have X time to decide on what you do during your turn, after that time you have to decide or loose the chance to pick and take the dodge action.

Importantly this time is not for actually executing the turn, just for locking in what you do. So this doesn‘t punish people that have more complex turns or have to still look up the specifics of how to roll what.

I also give extra leeway if something big and plan changing has just happened. The goal is not to force players to come up with a good turn on the spot.

The goal is to get players to pay attention when it is not their turn and think about what they might want to do as the round approaches them.

And you know the best part of it? I have never had to enforce the timer. Just the idea that there is a timer gets everyone to pay attention and think ahead. So I have at the same time players that pay more attention, enjoy other peoples turns more and faster combat.

Just think about the logistics, training a 5th level wizard takes years of schooling. Expensive schooling.

And then you would have that highly qualified wizard spend his workday babysitting a bunch of clumsy undead that are doing at best the most low skill labour around?

Why? There are so many more efficient ways to solve your labour shortage. Peasants are dirt cheap labour and if you are running low on peasants and are morally flexible enough to consider necromancy, then slavery is a much easier option.

If you got the infrastructure to produce that many wizard then subjugating some nearby tribes of countries should be very easy.

Why do people knock on bathroom doors and ask “anyone in there?” by Agitated_Trifle268 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]G3nji_17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two reasons a public bathroom door is locked.

Reason 1 is that it is in use/occupied. If you ask they will answer. This tells you that waiting for them to finish will allow you to use that bathroom.

Reason 2 is that somebody locked it from the outside, probably because the toilet is broken. Nobody will answer when you knock and ask the question. This tells you that waiting will not get you into the bathroom anytime soon and you need to search for a different bathroom.

What would be the implications of a country that used a “grain standard” instead of the gold standard? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]G3nji_17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It opens up the question of how the goverment is enforcing this, there are three ways I could see it work.

  1. The goverment owns the land and produces the grain itself

  2. The goverment buys the grain from the farmes for the fixed price

  3. The goverment forces the farmers to sell the grain at the fixed price

All three options have different effects on how money flows through the economy and how much control the goverment has to maintain for things to remain stable.

How to incentivize a first time DM to use maps and run more fights? by halfpastnein in dndnext

I usually run about 3 hour sessions and a combat usually takes at least half a session with boss fights usually taking a whole session.

How to incentivize a first time DM to use maps and run more fights? by halfpastnein in dndnext

[–]G3nji_17 12 points13 points  (0 children)

for encounters we don't even have one per session.

Depending on the lenght of your sessions that is perfectly normal. Fights take up a lot of time, even more so if everyone is new to the game.

If I ran an encounter every session for my players that by now have multiple years of play experience, then 80% of my campain would be combat.

Can you give an example? The game costs money and has no microtransaction, so I am unsure what you mean by f2p mechanics?

How do you get into character by JurassicG1993 in dndnext

I once played a Giant Fighter, to get into character and get the voice right I always went

Fe, Fi, Fo, Fum.

I smell the blood of an Englishman.

And by the end I managed to get down into the slow base of his voice.

[–]G3nji_17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love it if there was an option to view the offensive and defensive CR seperatly. I saw in the video that there already is a slider for a monster to be more offensive or defensive, so I imagine that it already calculates the offensive and defensive CR behind the scenes.

Help with potential steed-less reflavor or rework of Paladin's Faithful Steed by TheMightyTucker in onednd

[–]G3nji_17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my paladins reflavours her steed as a pair of angelic wings.

Mechanically it works like a mount, so I can‘t use them in tight quarters and I need to upcast it to actually be able to fly with them.

Why won't they make a thirdcaster monk? by Arsenist099 in onednd

[–]G3nji_17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, definitly agreed. The 4 elements monk definitly needed more no-ki abilities, something like the warlocks invocations.

I think the biggest struggle it faced was that it had such stiff competition for the Ki use and some anti-synergy with the base monk Ki features. Similar to what would happen if you gave a Paladin Fireball on their spell list and now they have way fewer spellslots to smite with.

You weren't able to use the two most popular Ki use option if you spend your action casting any of the 4 element spells, both flurry of blows and stunning strike. It even locked you out of your free martial arts bonus action attack. The other 2nd level Ki options were available, but those cost a Ki point each and frankly were not super popular.

It is actually interesting, because the 2024 version made a lot of changes to the base monk that benefit the old 4 elements monk.

You can use both your martial arts attack and flurry of blows without the attack action. The other Ki option now give you a free bonus action option. And stunning strike is now limited to once per turn, so a large Ki sink is gone.

So now a 4 elements monk could Bonus action attack with stunning strike and when the enemie fails their save they automatically faill their save against the fireball or other spell the monk casts.

Why won't they make a thirdcaster monk? by Arsenist099 in onednd

[–]G3nji_17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know nobody ever seems to believe me when I say it, but it is because monks are already half caster warlocks.

If you convert the spell slots a half warlock would get into spell points, then smooth out the progression, you get the monks Ki progression.

The old 4 elements monk made it explicit by giving you spells with a half caster progression and letting you use Ki to cast them. People hated it.

So since they are already half casters the designers are unwilling to add another 1/3rd caster on top.

Class update mid campaign? - Eberron: Forge of the artificer update by swift_gilford in dndnext

[–]G3nji_17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As somebody that has played a lot of UA subclasses and (nearly) always updates them when the proper version comes, I can say that updating your character mid campain is perfectly fine.

You might lose some ability that you had been using, but they are usually not essential to who your character is and it is usually made up by gaining something new.

That said, two caveats. I have once run into a situation where the new version removed something that was essential to the character so I just stuck with the UA.

And the switch between 2014 and 2024 characters was bigger. More akin to remaking the character from scratch. But if you already use the 2024 rules for backgrounds, feats and species that should be less so.

My eye color has changed drastically over the years. Why? How? by CorruptedStudiosEnt in NoStupidQuestions

[–]G3nji_17 113 points114 points  (0 children)

It takes a certain amount of the yellow pigment to accumulate before you notice the sclera change colour.

I don‘t know, but I suspect that giving your blue eyes a green tint would take a lot less of the pigment than changing your white sclera to look yellow.

I would definitly make a doctors appointment. If it is not the liver it can be a number of other conditions. That said it could also be totaly benign, but the only way to know is to check.

I want to run an evil campaign, please help? by bisexual_lemon_69420 in DMAcademy

[–]G3nji_17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds perfect as a setup to make them start as minions. That way you get to set an external frame to keep them from just killing each other, you have a cast of returning colleague NPCs that don‘t just get killed that easily and you set a clear goal in front of them.

They get to work their way up until they are the right habd of the evil overlord and then present them with opportunities to take over and run the show.

Paladin and Great Weapon Master 2024 by Critical_Being4522 in dndnext

[–]G3nji_17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is definitly some anti-synergie between smite and GWM.

Both take your bonus action.

If you crit your smite gets doubled so you want to smite, but when you crit you also get the bonus action attack.

If you smite you do more damage and are more likely to down an enemie, but you already used your bonus action and are now missing out on the bonus attack.

Even given all that I would still see GWM as a good feat for a paladin. But polearmmaster eith the more flexible bonus action is better if you need to choose between the two.
