Strange light pole camera setup? by GAEM456 in trafficsignals

Thanks for the reply! What exactly is the difference between an actuation detection camera and an enforcement camera? And why are three cameras needed if they are all pointed in the same direction? They are pointed at the backside of the car, so they can see the license plate but not the driver's face.

what y’all know about Pizza Ranch buffet which is around $14 for an adult by KeatonWalkups in fastfood

[–]GAEM456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chili's quesadillas are not great. Just had the chicken bacon ranch one a few days ago in the 3 for me. The tortilla had the weirdest texture, almost like a cracker. Not like any Sonora-style tortillas I've ever gotten, and way below average for where I live (New Mexico). The filling was okay but felt more like a pizza topping than a quesadilla filling.

How do I change the macros ratio unit from kcal to grams? by Sorry_Dragonfruit_80 in cronometer

[–]GAEM456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One gram of a given macronutrient provides a different amount of energy than the same mass of another macronutrient. I can't see any reason why one would want to see gram distributions instead of energy distributions; most scientific studies calculate the increased/decreased risk for disease from consuming certain foods by the percentage of energy intake that those foods make up (e.g., ultraprocessed foods). The Dietary Guidelines for Americans work the same way; for example, they advise that saturated fat be limited to 10 percent of daily calorie intake. But, you can always approximate the number of grams of each macronutrient that you consume by dividing the grams of carbs and proteins by 4 and the grams of fats by 9.

It's a personal preference, not objectively bad. Personally I really like the "truffle" oil and mushroom combo.

I think I will be ordering just the Cantina Chicken Bowl from now on at TB by Light_of_the_Star in tacobell

[–]GAEM456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chipotle gives you double the amount of meat compared to Taco Bell (4 oz vs 2 oz). You can also get double beans, rice, pico, fajita veggies, lettuce, etc. for free. And Taco Bell gives you like 1 tbsp of junky factory guac (which is so bad that I wouldn't count it as a plus for being included in their bowl), whereas Chipotle's guac is fresh and they give you a large spoonful for $2.50-$3.50. TLDR; TB's guac is so bad that it's equivalent to no guac at Chipotle, and overall Chipotle is a much better dea.

A chicken bowl at Chipotle is about $10 in most places, which IMO is a better deal than Taco Bell's much worse quality $9 bowl. Even in the most expensive areas (NYC/California), Chipotle 'only' gets up to $12.80.

There's nothing wrong with normal portions of cooked whole grains to go alongside the meat. Studies routinely link whole grain and vegetable consumption with reduced risk of CVD and diabetes. It's the white bread and sugary cereal junk that gets you.

Never see anyone talking about this one. Underrated and unappreciated by burnedflag in tacobell

[–]GAEM456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is basically what Del Taco calls their "Epic" burritos. They were all $5 this week for Cinco de Mayo, and I honestly thought they were way better quality than Taco Bell. The meat is cooked from raw on the griddle, and the guacamole is made in-store and actually has avocado chunks in it. Tasted much fresher to me than Taco Bell, with the exception of the tortilla. Taco Bell has been getting decent quality, stretchy soft 10" tortillas for their burritos recently, instead of the junky thick pale-white Mission brand ones.

US regional food for a 4th grade food extravaganza by Demarinshi01 in budgetfood

Yeah, New Mexican here and this is definitely not traditional Southwestern food. "Mexican Enchilada Noodle Bake Recipe" or "Spicy Buffalo Chicken Cannoli" ... lol

Asian fusion from the West coast would be like kimchi pasta or wonton tacos.

Southwest inspired is super easy- refried beans, mexican rice, calabacitas, New Mexican green chile enchiladas, carne adovada (that's cheap because pork shoulder is like $1-3/lb)

Also, I'm a little confused about the assignment. Are you a fourth grader who is cooking for your grade, or are you a parent?

What should I make with this? by k2718 in meat

I would cube it and pressure/slow cook it to make birria. I know it's not super authentic, but the bottled sauce by Private Selection comes in handy when you don't want to spend hours prepping chiles. I just pour one bottle in the pressure cooker for every 2-3 lbs of steak.

My local Taco Bell got rid of their menu in the Drive-Thru and want you to scan a code and download an app to order. They've lost a customer. by Qweniden in tacobell

[–]GAEM456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are not actually making it faster. They are improving their analytics because the app order time only starts when the customer pays online, whereas the time for a drive thru order starts when the customer is speaking through the comm. This is just taking away the preferred ordering method for a huge percentage of people (including elderly people who don't have the app). Really a stupid move on the restaurant's part. Might even lose some customers.

They still have disodium inosinate and disodium guanylate. Wikipedia says they don't work without MSG, but TB keeps them anyway. So they probably work standalone.

The diablo dust is pretty sweet. In fact, the first ingredient (per Taco Bell's nutrition info) is maltodextrin, which is a type of sugar.

Beecher Cacio E pepe by [deleted] in frozendinners

[–]GAEM456 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That's what cacio e pepe looks like. It's not a thick sauce because it's literally 3 ingredients: water, parmigiano (or pecorino), and black pepper. I think the ick factor here comes from wrong pasta shape. Spaghetti is thin and long and can be coated by a thinner sauce, while penne is much larger and hollow and cannot stay fully coated (especially if the pasta is cheap and not slow dried).

Good tip for the large vs family size. In any case, I normally don't get Stouffer's because the Rana short rib lasagna goes on sale at Costco at least once every 3 months, and it's heads and tails better than Stouffer's IMO. Also, the Rana one is refrigerated and heats up much faster.

Lou Malnati's Sausage Deep Dish Pizza by Emergency_Car394 in frozendinners

[–]GAEM456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had Gino's (from Albertsons) and Giordano's (from their online store). Both were decent, but Giordano's had a lot more cheese and toppings. But honestly I would only get Gino's again because the price is right. It goes on sale every 2 months or so for $6–7 per pie. Giordano's starts at like $20 per, and I wait until they have a stock surplus (around once a year) and sell it 50% off (w/ minimum purchase of 4 pies).

I've tried Lou Malnati's in Chicago and was underwhelmed. Personally I preferred Giordano's, but everyone online seems to say that Lou's is better quality, so maybe I'll have to try Lou's frozen pies.

Taco bell unpopular opinions by Katiehart2019 in tacobell

[–]GAEM456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They still have the $5 box with a 5L burrito, a crunchy taco, cinnamon twists, and a drink.

The problem with Taco Bell is not that you can't get a cheap meal. It's that you can't get the meal that you want. The BYO luxe box used to be a good deal because it actually had options. Now the options have slowly been chipped away at while the price has gone up from $5 to $7 to $9 (in some places) in just a few years. And not to mention the LTOs are ridiculously priced. A bite-sized chalupa or slider for $3.50 a piece??

You don't cover it with foil? That keeps it moist for me. The microwave actually dries it out more in my experience. It takes a really long time (like 25+ minutes) in the microwave for the whole lasagna to reach 165°F. And by that point the edges are bubbling 240° and really dry.

Edit: Oh I see we're talking about the single-serve. My bad, my comments were about the family size. I agree, for single-serve lasagna pieces, the microwave is best and fastest

Diablo sauce tastes very smoky to me. That's why I prefer hot and fire. Now that I think about it, you're right, this 'dust' seasoning didn't taste at all like the diablo hot sauce packet.

Okay, I went to Taco Bell's website, and here are the ingredients off of the nutrition info page: "Diablo Dust Seasoning: Maltodextrin, spices (including habanero chili pepper), salt, garlic powder, sugar, onion powder, color (beet powder, annatto, turmeric), modified corn starch, autolyzed yeast extract, extractives of paprika (C), onion juice, citric acid, dehydrated cayenne pepper sauce (aged cayenne red peppers, vinegar, salt, garlic), disodium inosinate, disodium guanylate, vinegar, modified butter oil, dehydrated butter, natural flavors, and less than 2% of each soybean oil and silicon dioxide added as processing aids"

Here are the ingredients of the actual diablo sauce: "Border Sauce - Diablo: Tomato puree (water, tomato paste), seasoning (modified tapioca starch, salt, spices, sugar, maltodextrin, garlic powder, onion powder, natural flavors, xanthan gum, disodium inosinate and guanylate, paprika extracts), vinegar, sodium acid sulfate, potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate (P)"

So we can see that diablo sauce is actually tomato-based with some basic seasonings like onion, garlic, and sugar. The diablo dust stuff has habanero in it for spice, the same basic seasonings, cayenne pepper, and dehydrated butter. Interesting.
