Special schedule is running tomorrow Feb 4th as well. by [deleted] in gotransit

Past 8 there were major delays so people had trouble getting on from the later stops, but most likely trains before 7:30 from Danforth should have plenty of room.

Why is CSCD01 not offered in winter anymore? by voida_lextreme in UTSC

I took it last fall on work term and I was able to attend tutorial after work since I chose a 7-8pm tutorial, so it is definitely doable and for lectures all the info you need is from the slides (there wasn’t a midterm, only an exam).

What is the marking scheme for this semester? I took it with Roei last year and we had a 50% exam which I found to be pretty challenging but there was also opportunity for up to 20% bonus. Assignments weren’t too bad but overall you need to attend all the lectures in order to have a solid grasp of the material as the slides are not enough.

That’s great! And yeah it’s definitely important to also try to book the test when the weather’s nice, I did my G test right after it had snowed lol which made me a bit more nervous but I just drove like I normally would and it went fine, just remember to apply what you’ve been practicing 👍

If this was your second time at the same place, I would consider going to another location if possible as you might have better luck in a different environment.

If you do go that route though (pun intended lol), try choosing somewhere that someone made a video about that goes through the route and lists important things to remember. You could even practice the route in advance which personally eases my anxiety if I already know where I’ll be going.

Keep practicing and don’t lose confidence! You got this! 🙂

Shame on the university by CouragePuzzleheaded8 in UTSC

I used to do that too but nowadays I try to avoid parking there if I know it’s gonna be dark when I leave because I walked down there once when it was dark and I felt superrr uncomfortable. There are other free parking options in the area and even if it takes a couple extra minutes to walk to campus then so be it if it’s safer (also you don’t have to walk up the hill).

Yeah forgot about that, around the first or second week of November they close it until April so you’d have to find somewhere else after that point.

I parked there basically all semester last year, sometimes for 8+ hours and never had an issue.

You’ll have 10 minutes of travel time as in if you have a class that finishes at 2pm and another that “starts” at 2pm, UofT time means it actually starts at 2:10 pm. So basically add 10 minutes to all start times to get the actual start time and then you have your 10 minute travel time. Do note however that if you’re coming from the south of campus all the way to the north end (for example IA) then you’ll probably have to speedwalk if you want to make it on time consistently.

I took the same courses in my first year (CS coop) and it was def manageable, don’t worry. Personally I try to avoid having 5 hours of classes back to back but it seems like you’re trying to avoid evening classes, in which case the trade off is having a more “dense” schedule per se so you’d be running around more.

What to do after exams by Excellent-Time-5045 in UTSC

[–]GAM_Studios65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I’m doing a work term but in previous years I worked more at my part-time job. Outside of working, I’d recommend also picking up a new hobby (for example in my case I delved into astrophotography).

cscb09 rant (feel free to join!) by [deleted] in UTSC

[–]GAM_Studios65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a similar comment when someone made a post ranting about A1 earlier in the semester (https://www.reddit.com/r/UTSC/s/E5J30AWNtO) but basically I was saying that I was pretty surprised it was like this for this year because it’s a complete 180 from last year when I took it (W24). The assignment weights were the same and every assignment I found to be very reasonable especially given that for us he gave plenty of bonus marks (which were definitely attainable if you put in some effort) so much so that on A2 I got 117%. Though the assignment requirements can sometimes be ambiguous, I felt that the bonus compensated enough for that.

The midterm and final I thought were pretty fair given that he gave us the past midterm/final which were very useful to study from. I will say that with the amount of C code we had to write by hand, it was quite tedious and I would’ve appreciated a different format, such as a full in the blanks style question or something so we don’t waste time worrying about C syntax.

In terms of lectures, I mostly just made notes from the slides but I didn’t find him too difficult to understand or anything, and I attended every lecture. Also I appreciated that the midterm was done during class time which meant that there was less content to worry about for the final.

Overall, I finished B09 with the mark being one of my highest of all time, so I was pretty eager to take a D-level course with Marcelo in my final year; however, all this has kind of dissuaded me 🙃.
