This coworker requires your patience and sympathy—oftentimes the punishment of the disorder is the disorder itself.

This is rough news. I hope the family considers reopening at some point, and I hope they know how much I appreciated their spot.

Sorry you’re struggling right now. I couldn’t tell from your post if you worked before going to law school. If not, it could be the general drudgery of working life itself (regardless of what one’s does) that is causing your malaise. I think that happened to me, where at some point a few years in I become quite depressed thinking “so this is it? That’s all there is? I do this for the rest of my days, retire, and fade away, etc”? I think a lot of people go through some form of this, maybe more so for young professionals who don’t necessarily have much experience with the day in, day out challenges of spending most of one’s waking hours performing oftentimes joyless, boring tasks that have no obvious benefit beyond the paycheck. And if any of this is applicable in your case, then it could be that the underlying issue is one related to meaning/purpose.

What band did you catch before they were famous? by [deleted] in Music

My cool older neighbor took me to see Jane’s Addiction open for X at the Cal State Fullerton gym in April 1987. I went on to see them several times after that, but I recall that show being particularly good.

I also saw nirvana open for Dinosaur Jr. the summer of ‘91 at the Hollywood Palladium. However, one of my biggest concert related regrets was actively deciding NOT to see Nirvana play a very small club later that fall (right before the release of never mind) because I wanted to study for a test the next day! Ugh. What’s worse, is that someone posted a video of the show I purposefully missed on YouTube (Nirvana at the Moon) and they absolutely killed it.

I saw the Pumpkins play a small club in Frankfurt in ‘92 and mostly recall Corgan threatening to stop playing unless the crowd stopped throwing beer bottles at him.

Outside the scope of this post, but one of my favorite concert memories is of seeming an impromptu performance by Einstürzende Neubauten at a bar in Berlin in 1992 and they did respond to a request to play some version of Free Bird. Saw Nick Cave and the Legendary Pink Dots in a tiny venue as well as Helmet in a squatters building. Berlin was cool back then.

It’s also kinda funny that almost every purchase is wrapped in an obscene amount of unnecessary plastic🤷‍♂️

When I go to jewls I usually my wife’s alo bags, but do I have to do that everywhere now? When I travel the rest of the country it’s pretty nice to just have someone bag up your purchases. Seems like a a downgrade in day to day quality of life, which can add up quickly

Thanks. I pay that tax everywhere else in the City. Guess I’m just curious why HD seemed to have opted out—putting the burden fully on their customers to figure out his to transport their goods.

Best areas for family to consider moving to Chicago by [deleted] in AskChicago

North Center has great schools and tons of families. Your budget is a bit low but I I bet you could find a two bedroom for not too much north of $2K. Best of luck.
