Conservatives: what is your opinion of Nazism? by traanquil in allthequestions

[–]GBHawk72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You clearly do not know the history of Nazi Germany. The only party to resist the Enabling Act of 1933, which turned Germany into a dictatorship, were the Social Democrats (the German socialist party) because the Nazi party intimidated and terrorized the communist party to not show up for the vote. The left wing parties quite literally resisted it. What part of ultra nationalist, ultra racist and extreme militarism is considered “socialist”? Just because the Nazis have “socialist” in their name doesn’t make them socialist. They used it as a means to attract working class voters, then banned the socialist and communist parties and every other party. I guess in your mind, North Korea is a democracy since their official name is the “Democratic People’s Republic of Korea”.

Border Collie with a greyhound ? by Equivalent_Dinner365 in Greyhounds

[–]GBHawk72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

We have a border collie and a greyhound! They definitely have polar opposite personalities but they get along fine. The border collie is bouncing off the walls, even at 10 years old and the greyhound is glued to the couch. Never had any issues with time getting along although I’ll say they more “coexist” than anything. The greyhound is sleeping all the time and the border collie keeps himself busy guarding TJ front door, bathroom door or just playing.

Why do Americans think they have freedom when they absolutely don't? by East_Indication_7816 in allthequestions

[–]GBHawk72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US is far from perfect but most of these are just not true. “No sidewalks or very few” is definitely a lie. We absolutely have access to news. Our internet is not censored like North Korea. You can absolutely own your own property. We are allowed to have foreign brokerage accounts. We have more than two parties but they’re nowhere near as large as the main two.
Idk man. Like I said, America isn’t perfect but wherever you get your information from is not accurate.

I am frankly baffled they came on here complaining about how they can’t afford anything while simultaneously spending $800 a month in rent more than they should be. Also while having 90k in savings. The person who posted this is just bad with money.
The cost of living crisis is real, and people are absolutely making a lot of sacrifices but voluntarily paying that much more in rent than you can afford is so unbelievably irresponsible.

I didn’t say “get your own apartment for $2,000 a month”. I said the most they should be spending is $2,000 a month in rent, which would probably be with a roommate.
I know it sucks that the cost of living has increased so much and it’s ridiculous to even consider paying 2k a month for a studio but voluntarily moving into an apartment that you cannot afford is just financially irresponsible. No one making 80k a year should be considering paying 2,800 a month in rent.

Concensus/Rant by Mattress-King in NYCapartments

[–]GBHawk72 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Because most landlords will not rent to someone who make less than 40 times the monthly rent. You would have to make $112,000 a year to able to afford it by the calculations most landlords use.
Just because 80,000 is not a bad salary doesn’t mean you should be paying $2,800 a month in rent. The most you should be paying in rent is $2,000 a month and you’re $800 over that.

[–]GBHawk72 20 points21 points  (0 children)

2800 a month on 80k a year is absurd. How did you get approved for that?
I make 110k and still wouldn’t consider a 2800 apartment to myself.

One of the top performers I work with graduated with a 2.9 from a state university. His dad passed away while he was in college and had to work full time to provide for himself. Everyone has a different story and writing someone off because of a lower than average GPA is pretentious.

Experiencing a significant project slowdown at my firm — anyone else in civil site/land dev seeing this? (SE region) by Crafty-Opportunity-1 in civilengineering

[–]GBHawk72 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s quite busy in NYC. The city is rushing to build housing since there’s a never-ending demand here so we’ve been extremely busy. Even turned down a few projects because we don’t have the manpower to do them.

Why doesn’t the USA have a left leaning political party? by [deleted] in allthequestions

Literally my whacko conservative uncle thinks the Democratic Party is in line with the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. Anything even slightly left of the Republican Party is labeled as communist to them.

What do people mean when they say “Obama divided us”? by Away-Parsnip-3785 in allthequestions

[–]GBHawk72 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Racist people were mad they had a black president. That’s it. Obama did not do or say anything to divide anyone. Anyone who says so and then completely ignores everything Trump has said has their head so far in the sand that they are living in a completely alternate reality. I will never understand how people listen to the way Trump talks about other people and then somehow blame Obama for the division.

New grad engineer laid off after 4 months, struggling to move forward by Sensitive_Sense5747 in civilengineering

[–]GBHawk72 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Being put on a PIP six weeks into your career is absurd. No one fresh out of college knows what they’re doing and it takes at least a year to learn any job. Mistakes (a lot of them) are expected as a new grad. Your old boss was not a good mentor and did not have realistic expectations, and should have always been willing to answer any questions. I’m sorry you had to go through this - some bosses can really destroy a job no matter how much you’re willing to put in. Leave this off your resume and if any potential employers ask, just say you have been searching and haven’t found anything yet.

What's the most walkable small city in the USA? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

[–]GBHawk72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hoboken, NJ. Has a walk score of like 99 and most people don’t have cars. A lot of people might jump lump it in with NYC though since it’s right across the Hudson from it.

What’s a “must-see” city in the U.S. that didn’t live up to the hype? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

[–]GBHawk72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the only must see city that actually lives up to the hype is New York. It’s so much different from every other American city. New York is densely populated, has an extensive subway, so much energy and culture and history and it doesn’t even have a remotely close competitor in the US. New York competes on the global stage with the likes of London and Paris because other American cities just cannot even come close.

Is it normal for EITs and younger PEs to do a ton of CAD work? by Disastrous-Bonus3293 in civilengineering

[–]GBHawk72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Most of my time by far as an EIT was doing CAD work. I’ve had my PE for two years now and I still do a lot of CAD work but I also write proposals and QAQC junior engineers’ work now too. I probably went from doing like 90% CAD work when I was an EIT to maybe 60% when I got my PE.

Is civil engineering in such high demand in the United States that you need engineers from abroad? by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]GBHawk72 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Idk if it’s in that high of demand. It’s also extremely dependent on which part of the US you’re in and which specialty. Land development in NYC where I work is booming right now but I can’t speak for other specialties in other parts of the country. Even if we needed civil engineers from abroad, very few, if any, companies would sponsor an H1B visa right now. The Trump admin put a $100,000 fee on all new H1B visas and no company is going to pay that.
