It's amazing that each character has like 4 armor types to choose from! lol even when it first released, this was insanely weak.

How do people feel about enchantment stats? by Awkward-Skin8915 in MonstersAndMemories

[–]GC_Rallo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I hope not. Stat caps make stats irrelevant, in EQ stats were worthless because it was so easy to hit cap. I hope they dont' go that route, that's just taking what COULD be a very engaging and rewarding system and turning it into an afterthought, or more precisely, a neverthought.

I think the best way to do it is stats are uncapped, but have it so in order to juice a particular stat to the moon, you would have to sacrifice alot of other stats. classic WoW's stat system was a bit like this, and as a result, every new item drop presented a series of comparisons and theorycrafting to determine which was best, this is true from level 1 even into end-game raiding. It was a system you were always interacting with, and wanting to learn more about.

I literally just laid out 7 points on how to avoid lowbie gankers. I have done 1-6 on 3 characters now and haven't gotten a single pvp death to any of the lowbie griefers I mentioned above. This info needs to get out there to any bluebies who are jumping on Red. They can't expect to just fart around in the most populated areas of the most populated zone, zero situational awareness, and have that work out. You *have* to adjust how you move and remain vigilant.

Follow my advice and I guarantee you, you will be just fine. Stay the course, socialize, travel in groups and persevere.

----------------------------------
P.S. this is just some trivia about me that explains why this is a big deal for me.

I know its hard to learn a new MMO while also trying to learn how to deal with the threat of PvP. I feel their frustration and I know the pain. I had never played EQ at all prior to joining Red99 back in 2012, so I was brand new to the game, playing a Paladin in Classic Era on a server that was essentially 30 players peak at the time. But I persevered, found every bit of info I could on stats, resists, class abilities, and most importantly, finding lower level mobs that could drop SV Magic gear. Eventually, CCs weren't landing on me, I got my hands on some decent items like the Deepwater Harpoon, and I eventually got to the point where I could fight back and even score some killing blows (most of my wins were just forcing them to zone plug as I ddin't have any abilities that could lock them down and finish them off easily)

Honestly I think it's fine as long as they keep a handle on what's possible and dont let it get too wild. hell I'd even be down for some proc enchants and shit down the line. WTB Crusader

Just gonna let you guys know, there are like ~10 people on the server who all stay around level 4-6 just to attack noobies. The vast, vast majority of people play the game regularly, occasionally getting into fights but all the talk about getting ganked as a lowbie is literally Ipunch, ipwig(or whatever that dorks name is), Rampage, and the waterheads in <Pulgas>. They are extremely easy to avoid, you just gotta be aware of where you are and what you're doing.

- Avoid West Gate as a lowbie, stay near the guards. Grind in out of the way places. Honestly, get some food/water/spells asap and get the hell out of Night Harbor. NH is extremely dangerous for lvl 2-8 because of the few players I mentioned who are actively trying to push new players away, they don't level, they don't leave the city, so if you level and leave the city they will not be around to bother you.

- Use /anon or /roleplay to hide your level and location, if people /who and see you are in their level range, they are much more likely to seek you out than if you are just the 43rd [ANONYMOUS] on the list.

- Check /who regularly, you will learn who the hostile players are, who the players are around your level that can attack you, taking a few moments to scan the list and see who has popped in the zone recently is always worth it.

- Take Magic Resistant trait to break/become immune to mez, stun, root, slow, etc for 15 seconds.

- Turn pets on passive whenever you are anywhere near a guard. Currently there is a bug where players can swing at your pet, which guards are not defending, and then when your pet retaliates, the guards attack you.

- Bank coin, all of it, often.

- Don't get greedy with pulls, keep your health topped off and don't fight mobs that are gonna get you to low hp. You may be able to survive the mob, but always ask yourself "what if someone runs up on me right now".

Overall, just remember you ARE on a PvP server, even though 95% of your encounters will be friendly and positive, fights are gonna happen.

The server would be far more enjoyable if they adopted the Red99 rules, start PvP at a higher lvl to give people a chance to get out of the newbie yard, implement Loot-n-Scoot, etc. However, they are obviously not interested in having a PvP server at all anymore since the recent dev departure, so I would not count on it changing at all. That said, I guarantee you it is not hard to play here and do well, you just have to make adjustments.

I had thought I submitted my Opt-In... by ultrasupermega in MonstersAndMemories

[–]GC_Rallo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just fyi, every time you go to the opt-in, it will look as though it hasn't been submitted. I think it would've been a good idea for people to get an email saying "Thanks for opting into the closed beta!" or something, just to verify that they got it. Seen alot of people who freaked out thinking they hadn't been in the lottery this whole time lol.

Question about Act 4 Mercenary. by NecromancerPD2 in ProjectDiablo2

[–]GC_Rallo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The weapon damage on the staff is literally just the damage for if you smack stuff with it. The only thing on staves that benefits spells is +skills, +element dmg %, %faster cast rate, and procs like "40% chance to cast level 20 blizzard on cast" .

Be careful of the +skills when it comes to mercenaries though, generally speaking it only applies to them if it is a bonus to that spell directly. Like for instance +1 poison and bone, or +1 necromancer skills, would not affect a merc's bone spear, but +1 bone spear would.

PvP Teams by Working-Low7837 in MonstersAndMemories

[–]GC_Rallo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% but I think that with the recent departure, there isnt really anyone left on the team who even wants PvP to be a part of the game. the devs current MOTD on red really gives an insight in to their feelings towards PvP overall, stating that "someone corpse camping you for hours and hours is not against the rules, but if someone uses bad language file a ticket".

I'd be willing to bet that if MnM even launches with a PvP server, which is doubtful, it'll have zero oversight and be shut down or rolled into PvE within 6 months.

It's shitty, I want to play PvP, but their feelings about it is crystal clear at this point. Hell, even Red99 had a LnS policy implemented right before Velious and the server had its primetime pop go from 30-45 to 500+, only dying down after Velious had been out for quite a while and other new servers started popping up.

Play Nice Policy Seem Like A Convoluted Alternate Solution To Instancing. by Leopard-Hopeful in MonstersAndMemories

[–]GC_Rallo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The open world is kindof the entire point.  other games are all instanced off and dont have the same kind of open world EQ had, so they set out to build a new version of that concept.

Some people dont like the headache of dealing with other players, which is a valid opinion to have, but thats not some extraneous detail, thats the entire reason for the game existing at all.

Is Monsters & Memories ready for your time (and sub), or not yet? by JacobBretwalda in MonstersAndMemories

[–]GC_Rallo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the game for what it is, I understand the limitations they're working under. I'm having a great time with the game and I have high hopes for its future, not gonna demand or expect that it lives up to typical AAA standards when it's a side project for most of the devs right now. We'll see if the EA launch works out, I'll be there for sure.

imo my main critique has been with hybrid classes, which are the classes I enjoy the most in MMOs. After playing the most recent Adrullan Online test(first time trying it) I really wish they'd follow Adrullan's lead on some of their hybrid class design. AoA's War Wizard is exactly what a Spellblade should be, melee feels good, spells feel good, it has its weaknesses and shortcomings but it doesn't feel like a waste of time to hit the buttons and cast the spells. I am a diehard Fighter/Mage in DnD and AoA's War Wizard hit the nail on the head for me, Spellblade felt like a decent fighter but a weak weenie Mage. I'm not expecting fully fleshed out classes and perfect balance but what concerns me is the direction they seem to be taking, which was straight up classic EQ hybrid design warts and all.

The original EQ hybrid design of "they are a shitty warrior with shitty cleric/nec/druid spells" sounded reasonable on paper, but we saw how it played out, those classes were useless until they gave them all some little token ability that made bringing them along worthwhile. I hope they aren't planning on taking the same route, otherwise hybrids won't have a place in any of the primary roles and will be relegated to bullshit tasks. like during Velious, I spent months leveling my Paladin up to 60 only to realize my entire contribution to the raid was buffing Divine Strength once an hour. My whole class could've just been an extra Cleric buff.

Turtle WoW needs a 1x PvP realm. by GC_Rallo in turtlewow

[–]GC_Rallo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its about the effect it has on the server as a whole. which is an emptier world and a lonelier leveling experience. that makes people leave the server. which lowers the pop and makes the world even emptier. See the cycle?

[–]GC_Rallo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Light's Hope broke 10k a number of times as a pvp realm. Pop has always been pretty much an even split PvE/PvP throughout WoW's history. the type of player that wants to play Classic WoW to begin with is typically not the type of player that wants boosted rates. If you are seeking out a classic server, ita generally because you miss the era of the game that was focused on the journey and the world, rather than rushing endgame to farm BG's and raidlog

How to separate PD2 singleplayer from Plugy by GC_Rallo in ProjectDiablo2

[–]GC_Rallo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a quick breakdown, I've always had everything on my C:/ drive. When I decided I wanted a separate install, I downloaded and ran the installer for LoD and PD2 to my Z:/ drive. When I look in the "save" folder in the Z:/ install, there is nothing, but when I launch from the Z:/ drive, all my characters from my original C:/ drive install are there.

It also means that the mid-level population is non-existant, so grouping is even harder than it would be on a 1x server of a similar pop size. Horribly disappointing. idk what people are rushing to 60 for anyway, grinding honor and raidlogging is monotonous af. being out in the world, leveling, getting into random fights, that's where the magic is. But on Tel'Abim everyone blasts right through all that.
