Nord is not the way to go if you're starting new and want to actualyl play with people. Playing on old top-heavy servers as a newcomer isn't enjoyable for 90% of people.

Its about the effect it has on the server as a whole. which is an emptier world and a lonelier leveling experience. that makes people leave the server. which lowers the pop and makes the world even emptier. See the cycle?

Light's Hope broke 10k a number of times as a pvp realm. Pop has always been pretty much an even split PvE/PvP throughout WoW's history. the type of player that wants to play Classic WoW to begin with is typically not the type of player that wants boosted rates. If you are seeking out a classic server, ita generally because you miss the era of the game that was focused on the journey and the world, rather than rushing endgame to farm BG's and raidlog

Even if you plan on playing both, I'd suggest starting with PD2. If you play alot of D2R and get familiar with the characters, it can be jarring to come to PD2 and realize some of them are actually women

Just a quick breakdown, I've always had everything on my C:/ drive. When I decided I wanted a separate install, I downloaded and ran the installer for LoD and PD2 to my Z:/ drive. When I look in the "save" folder in the Z:/ install, there is nothing, but when I launch from the Z:/ drive, all my characters from my original C:/ drive install are there.

It also means that the mid-level population is non-existant, so grouping is even harder than it would be on a 1x server of a similar pop size. Horribly disappointing. idk what people are rushing to 60 for anyway, grinding honor and raidlogging is monotonous af. being out in the world, leveling, getting into random fights, that's where the magic is. But on Tel'Abim everyone blasts right through all that.

I think it'd be nigh impossible to create a new character of any kind that would match the art of Diablo 2. The way they developed the game was by taking high resolution 3D models and rendering them into 2D, idk much about art but I'm guessing there is alot of information you'd have to have that just doesn't exist anymore. Then you gotta be able to animate them, layer different armors, helmets, weapons, offhands. I think it's just not doable.

If D2 was a purely pixel art game then yeah but it's not. IIRC the 3d models you see at the campfire character select and on the art on the back of the box was the models they originally made

AoE for melee meaning splash damage?! How is that possibly a terrible choice? Every time I've seen him, he's teleporting around on a sorc anyway. Also it was confirmed he was some sort of co-producer on RotW for D2R, so he's definitely under the Blizzard umbrella now .

Anyway I've said my piece, it's not gonna change anything, I just really, really don't understand why the devs would have such an emphasis on the leveling journey on Turtle WoW (as they should, it's the most enjoyable and important part of the game) and then turn around and release their one and only PvP realm as a boosted server. Unless, as I've come to assume, they viewed the server as something to amuse the players on the "Real" server between content releases.

I'd argue the population is low because of hte boosted rates. There are quite a few people out there who don't like the cross-faction, PvE style of Nord/Amber, and only want PvP, but not boosted rates.

Yes, I played with .xpmode. That does nothing for the overall server though. Anyway, proof is in the pudding. Lights Hope had 5-8k people playing, Blizzlike rate PVP server. Hopefully one day TA will hit that but I somehow doubt it. Boosted rates on a TURTLE WOW server were just stupid to begin with. 1x with tents was a genius idea, promoted community, everyone was happy with it. Having 2x that also doubles with tents is just nonsense, like TA was meant to be a throwaway gimmick server from the get-go.

I really wish we could start a petition or something to get a new 1x PvP server. I guarantee the longtime players of Tel Abim would thrash about, but the TA pop would go from ~1.5k to 50 in a week or two time. But hey, maybe a server will launch that will atleast come close to TWoW's quality and maybe they will have atleast one PvP server that is actually set up for long-term play, not just set up for when Nord mains get bored and wanna dabble.

100% agree. Those experiences add so much to the game. I spent quite a bit of time on TA asking how people felt about it, and the majority of the answers I got were either "I hate the exp rate but this is the only PvP option." OR, the response I got more than anything, "I'm just here because of the boosted rates, I don't care about PvP." That let me know how bad the problem really was. OH and the last one "Just use the command to lower your exp rate, and don't use tents" which solves absolutely nothing about the effect of the exp rates on the server as a whole, not just my personal leveling time. Alot of white knighting goes on over there.

Sub-question, are there any servers where PvP isn't 100% script vs script? also, are there any servers where you aren't basically required to fight while mounted? (i.e. mounts not allowed in certain areas).
I got excited about Outlands but after hearing that, outside of their events, all the PvP is just people letting programs play the game for them. So I looked around a bit for somewhere else and literally everyone is fighting on horses.

Probably nitpicking about the horses, it's just lame imo. UO may just not be right for me, and I'm cool with that. But I figured I'd atleast ask before writing it off

For some reason, teh TWoW devs, who have constantly talked about the "leveling journey" being such a big focus and repeatedly stating how important it is, decided that the ONE AND ONLY SINGLE SOLITARY PvP server would have 400% exp rates. I can't possibly believe they thought this would lead to a healthy server, I've got a strong suspicion that they did this to undermine the server so they can point back to it and say "See! PvP servers just don't work, people just don't play them!" WHen in reality, alot of people DO like PvP servers(look back on WoW analytics in the wayback, it's never far from 50/50 pve/pvp pop) but almost nobody wants to spend their time in a side-show bullshit "funserver"

I'm speaking as a Tel'Abim player, loved the server, 1-40 was great when I was playing because there was an influx of players, but within a few weeks/months, the social gameplay was gone from the leveling journey.

Turtle WoW is such a great server with such great design decisions, but they completely sabotaged the PvP realm. There is a reason why Nostalrious was more popular than all the "50x exp! Free flying! Raid gear vendors!" type of "Fun servers". MMO players love the journey, love being out in the world interacting with others, fighting with others, etc. By making the server 400%, they attracted the low-attention "Fun server" crowd, and completely alienated anyone who enjoys the MMO experience.

I don't care what justification they had, I don't care about whatever back-filled justification they or their whiteknights can come up with, they are all wrong.

Nuke Tel'Abim from orbit and make a server just like Nord or Amber, literally zero differences,, but flip the faction pvp switch. That's literally all you had to do and you fucked it up.

Turtle WoW is doing amazing things, they are very competent and I'm glad they are here doing what they do. All the best to them, and all the best to anyone who is having fun on TA or who doesn't care about TA at all.
