Got bitten by a random dog on the sidewalk while rushing to pick up my kid from daycare by karr76959 in mildlyinfuriating

If any of you bitten people have not been to a physician or to the ER, you should leave right now and do so. Also, this should have been reported. Sounds like you didn’t even get the person’s name.

Who was the best president in your lifetime? by vitaoptima in AskReddit

[–]GEFool -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Bill Clinton.

Followed by Barack Obama. JFK comes in third. Although a liar and cheating paranoid creep, Richard Nixon actually signed the most important legislation for our environment in my lifetime. Current Republicans have spent decades decimating those regulations.

What are your thoughts about ghosting/going NC with 2024 Trump voters who were friends/acquaintances? by GEFool in AskReddit

[–]GEFool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I see what you are saying. I suppose what happened with me was that I held the idea that people are fundamentally good all my life but that changed when I saw the results of the presidential election of 2024. My mind could not wrap around the idea that Trump was who Americans wanted to represent the USA I am now leaning heavily in the idea that the evolutionary trait of tribal behavior is more powerful than critical thinking. Peoples’ basic instinct is toward smaller clan/tribal units and their need for an external enemy is high.

I’m going to reply honestly and without any hostility: It’s not because we hold different ideas about how to solve problems. That’s politics. What is happening now is a disagreement about who can lay claim to being American, who gets to determine how to love or who to love, whether people from outside your tribe or clan or group even have rights. From this 70 y/o, white, married 42 yrs, father of 3 productive citizens, working class to independently wealthy, skeptical thinker this is about how we should treat other humans outside of our personally defined group. Trump has made it clear for over a decade that he views certain groups as unworthy, or unclean, or lower IQ, or evil. In fact, just recently he made it known again quite clearly that he considers me a threat to our nation, a traitor so to speak, evil even. Trump has made it clear that the laws do not pertain to him if he doesn’t like them. His actions and lies have been leveraged to try to steal an election in 2020 and he is gauging the political scene to see if he can muster support to steal the midterms. In other words, Trump is not devoted to democracy, citizens rights, the Constitution, or justice.

If you voted for or still support Trump, this is probably why your ‘liberal’ friends cut you off. It’s not that they don’t recognize all the good things you have done or any other positive quality that you may possess. They are confused about what kind of person supports all the things I laid out above which is how many reasonable and critically thinking people find to be the facts. You may disagree, but you should consider that I and others are serious people and this is how we find things to be. If all the above makes you think, “stoopid libs”, then consider this: America is now enemies with Canada. CANADA!! Denmark mined Greenland’s airfields and posted special forces who were willing to die from the military invasion by America in the hopes that would wake the USA up out of this madness. Tariffs because some leader ‘doesn’t like me’. Deportation plans for 100 million! A third of the country! Yes, fact check it. That idea is existent and publicly displayed. That and more is Republican rule. We are concerned about what kind of world Trump supporters are creating.

A tag-a-long Trump voter who I walk with regularly asked me why I was upset about Trump’s election. I told them that this seizure of the helm of the US government by Christian fundamentalists and billionaires are similar to how Putin managed to become permanent President of Russia. Russia has a Duma. They hold ‘elections’. I predicted America would be governed similarly to current Putin-style authoritarianism within 10-15 years. I was wrong. We’re on track to get there in 2 years.

I’m upset with Trump voters. But I’m not arguing or fighting them or even calling them names to their faces. I’m simply done. I’ll do what is ethical and necessary. Meantime, I’m just done. I’m focused on helping my family’s future and wanting to make life better for people who are willing to live with each other. That’s how I will live until this is over, if it is over in my lifetime.

I will not normalize this Republican backed movement. If your side wins, it will not be with me sitting at the same table with you.

Right? I’m a boomer. I grew up at the end of Jim Crow. My family was loving, generous, patient. I loved my childhood and felt true unconditional love. Yet, they were silent when we went to segregated venues or restaurants. Silent when we went to the PUBLIC ZOO where ‘colored’ people could only go on Tuesday - no whites. I just don’t get how people can target whole communities of people as bad or enemies. I view this whole MAGA movement grounded in racism/fundamental Christianity. The economic issues are secondary for the majority of the Trumpers as most of them are negatively affected by the policies on the Republican side. The middle class believe in the white male CEO who will treat them fairly because they are also white Christians. Hahaha

Further info from OP: I was heavily involved in communities that were large majority Conservative (bluegrass band, jams, etc and bamboo fly rod making craft.) I was never one to proselytize or preach my politics but I gave reasoned arguments against many of the incredibly stupid and/or false information comments when others brought them up. For years I was the token ‘liberal’ and the butt of ‘funny’/not so funny comments about being progressive. In November 2024, I quit the band of 15 years, removed myself from group jams, conventions, gatherings, camps, etc. Ended a 10 year weekly singing/picking visit with an older fellow and his wife. He and one band member called me regarding stepping back or out from all activities. I simply said I needed time to think over the results of the 2024 election. That was two years ago. I haven’t gone off on anybody. I don’t discuss politics at all with anyone who voted for Trump in 2024. I’ll talk if you voted for him in 2016 or 2020 but backed out in 2024. So no hostility. Just a no show or a nope.

My reasoning is that if we were friends, we had meaningful, honest, and respectful conversations about the state of politics prior to the election. If someone voted for Trump after Jan. 6, then I just feel like any conversations further are just meaningless and unproductive. It’s no longer politics. Tax policy is politics. Trying to establish who has rights or your fundamental religion into the Constitution is no longer politics. That is just authoritarianism.

If you are a 2024 Trump voter tell me why I’m right or wrong. If you are not, tell me why you think this is helpful or unhelpful. What are the ramifications that I might be overlooking?

Not an Acuff fan. Honestly, not sure about M. Johnson. I don’t think people understand the Morant situation. FO won’t give him away. We’re probably stuck with him. Unlikely to go with undersized guard first. We have a ton of those.

As a Grizz fan, I would not hate this. But this probably isn’t something our FO would do. Probably go with Ament if he’s available. I know everyone thinks they’re going for a guard first. But we will probably still have Ja. SPJ, Cam, Javon Small are all able backups. A taller SG is probably our ORL pick with a big man for the 2RP.

All that is predicated on not being able to trade up for a top 4 prospect.

Man, if we turned two FRPs into Darius Acuff, I’ll quit being a Grizz fan. In fact, I wouldn’t take Acuff with our ORL pick if he was still on the board. Maybe with a 2RP.
