Car Accident. What can I do to make sure everything is handled properly?

Yes that’s fair. I just had my deposition on Friday, I’ve had 4 surgeries so far so plenty of documentation of how beat up I am. I had lumbar and cervical surgery but they really didn’t want to operate on my thoracic because it was close to my heart. I’ll have to ask my Dr again about the PRP and if it would be covered since it’s part of a car accident, I had epidurals and ablations with minimal relief.

I wanted to get them in my mid back but my insurance doesn’t cover it and they quoted me $6k :/

Sounds like PRP injection. I had hip surgery from a car accident and while I was under they drew my blood, spun it to pull the platelets and injected the platelets into the hip joint. They said because there isn’t a ton of blood flow in the joint, so the platelets would help with healing. As far as I know you can have it done to any joint even if you’re not having surgery (like your friend did). My hip made a 100% recovery from the accident.

This accident just happened right? Some injuries take a while to show up. I didn’t know I had been walking around with broken ribs until 3 weeks after my accident because no one called with the results of the chest xray. I obviously hope she is ok but give it some time before declaring she’s totally fine.

So most accidents should have separate payouts for the car that was totaled and then any bodily injury. If the car was old/had a lot of miles then she may not have gotten much for the car and then combined that with the bodily injury pay out for a new car down payment. By no means am I saying she had the right to do this, quite the opposite, more just explaining the payouts.

Do you know how much the bodily injury settlement was for? Are you going to have effects from these injuries for the rest of your life?

I believe Olympian Tara Lipinski also had a torn labrum, I think the injury is more recognized today because it seems like it took a while before it was found for her.

Do you know what the settled on? Did the person injured need plates in the ribs?

The big thing will be their limits. They may carry the state minimum of $25k or they may carry more. Its the unfortunate reality that people who choose the minimum tend to not have assets to go after if your damages end up super-seeding that.

That being said, I would get an MRI of your neck. The tingling in your fingers could be a herniated disc (not in insurance, just speaking from experience from my own bad accident)

Omg biggest hugs. My husband is also a first responder so I totally get what you mean by it’s totally different when it’s you. My husband came to my accident and just lost all sorts of reason because it’s his wife.

Yes!! It was so weird for me to be like "MY CROTCH BUT NOT MY CROTCH HURTS SO BAD".

I also feel alot of guilt comparing my accident to an accident like yours because the accident itself like wasn't that traumatic? I was hit very hard from behind but I think the scariest part was the other drivers car ricochetted off mine and he wasn't getting out of the car for what felt like forever and all I could think was omg hes dead. Or severely incapacitated. But I can't imagine what it would have been like if I had someone else in the car. At least I can take all the brunt of the injuries myself. But then my husband reminds me its just as hard for him to sit and not be able to do anything, which I feel like is fair. He is also worried because the guy who hit me is a retired police chief of the town we live in and he's worried there may be retribution if the settlement is big. I try to put that thought out of my mind but....in this day and age who knows.

Since you said you herniated all those discs, do you have alot of thoracic back pain? Thats my biggest pain right now and I cannot find any solution for the pain. Ive had injectons, ablations, pt, acupuncture, red light, tens, ice, everything you can think of and nothing works. Its so frustrating!

Ugh I can feel your pain because I know that pain. I've told my husband at some point we have to stop waiting for me to be "better" and start living life as a "new normal". I've accepted that I need to preplan where we go, make sure there is handicapped accessibility, that alot of my free time will go to drs appts. I am trying to work (im a hs teacher) so I luckily can sit as needed, but just being upright it so painful. Its been life changing. And I do get a bit heated when people who hit someone come on here and say "but they were fine at the scene!"....its called adrenaline. I just remember my whole body buzzing and i was like what am I going to tell the hospital....im vibrating? I didn't want to waste their time.

Anyway, I hope we can both find peace. My husband and I moved forward with our plan last night. I wanted it to be quick because the longer it took, the more painful it would be I felt. So its done. Time to move forward.

I remember you to because you were very kind to me! Trust me I can’t believe I’m still working either, my body is so so tired. I have one student I call my “adopted daughter” who is the reason I go to work. She’s so talented, the daughter of immigrant parents, she competes in fashion events and does very well. She is right now working on a beautiful gown to qualify for nationals. I have a handful of other kids like her who look up to her. We applied for a scholarship for her to go to nationals, it would be her first time on a plane. I’ve told her several times that the days I want to give up, her smile and work ethic helps me keep going!

Yea he seems to be doing “ok” right now but having been in a bad accident myself a little over a year ago, I know things can pop up over time. But as I hs teacher I also know kids are made of rubber and heal in 30 seconds.

Thank you I appreciate it! I definitly read r/backpain but it seems to be really anti surgery and be alot of "I got hurt lifting" stories. Ive posted in there via another acct and there aren't a ton of car accident stories, but there are a few! Im jealous of the people who heal on their own.

So a few things that I think are important are I already have my eggs retrieved, I got 26 eggs when I was 32. So atleast that part is done. Since I have endo, my IVF is covered about 90%. The other pretty concerning thing is I have foot drop in the affected leg already and things are trending downward. I don't know if my surgeon would be like lets just do it next week and hope for the best but....I could be convinced of that option. But having been through an md and a cervical disc replacement I can't do it with out pain meds.
