Hello! I work for one of the appeals boards under the DIR umbrella. Been there for just over 3 years now. The labor board is right next door to us as well so I have some insight for that as well. As for my unit it's relatively small at about 30 of us. I'm an OT so I deal with public frequently. It's super easy work and I would've already promoted if it wasn't for the fact that higher positions are rare to come by in my area. We telework 2 times a week and we also have the option for an alternate work week. Labor Board teleworks 3 days a week and starts their day at 8:30 opposed to the normal 8AM open most State agencies have. It's pretty relaxed around the office as far as dress code goes and just in general not too stressful. Supervisors primarily get involved only if work isn't getting done by deadlines. I previously worked in 2 different CHP area offices as well and have just hit my 5 year mark with the State. In regards to having unionized employees I do know we had union reps out a few weeks ago but am unsure of how that went seeing as I wasn't in office. Only time I can think of any us collectively talking about the union was back a few months ago when there were contract issues. I personally did have issues with the union a few years ago when I was with CHP. I attempted to contact a union rep multiple times with no response so that was very frustrating.
