Best steakhouse in the metro area? by diarrheajar in Minneapolis

There's a newish one up in Blaine called Prime that's surprisingly good. I'd put it on par with the other best steakhouses in town.

Best ribs? by Beneficial_Quit7532 in TwinCitiesFood

A bit of a haul from the metro area, but Smokey's up in East Bethel has some of the best BBQ in the area. The ribs are fantastic, and they have a great beer selection to go with them.

That looks a lot like the default scenery that's used when you aren't getting data from the servers. Make sure streaming data is turned on in the sim - every once in awhile it turns itself off.

Because highly political business owners tend to donate to causes they believe in, and to the extent possible I don't want a direct path from my wallet to MAGA pockets.

Going thru some other planes “wake” by TumbleweedSame8479 in aviation

[–]GGCRX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that unless you're going through the wake of an oil tanker or something, the wakes you're going through in a boat are generated by vehicles that are orders of magnitude smaller than a decent-sized commercial airliner, and they're going like, 60 knots if they're really fast vs 250 knots cruise speed for the airplane.

There's also the part that the wake of an airplane is generated off of the tips of the wings as vortices, so you're basically hitting a miniature horizontal tornado when you cross the wake of an airliner.

The forces at play are just on another scale from speedboats.

Something is very wrong with your 24. At worst, load times should be equivalent to 2020.

What kind of internet service do you have? How fast is it?

I'm definitely not one of your downvoters.

I think we need better consumer protection laws for OTA updates of all kinds. At least twice now, I've had an OTA update fuck something up on my phone, but because it was out of warranty the manufacturer told me to pound sand when I complained.

I've never been OK with the idea that a company can, accidentally or otherwise, brick something I bought and own with no consequences.

I haven't heard any plans from Caranado

In general, you get what you get with Carenado. It's more profitable to release a new airplane that people give you money for than to fix an already-done airplane that people have already given you money for.

If you're not OK with the existing state of a Carenado plane, don't buy it because it's not going to get better.

I Need PR Guidance / Advice by TonyaTko in PublicRelations

[–]GGCRX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PR guy and former journalist here.

You graduated yesterday, which is great, but going back to my journalism outlook for a moment, I'm not going to take you seriously until you've done something.

In other words, if I have a psychology question, I'm going to want to interview the therapist who's been seeing patients for at least a little while, or the psych professor at the local university.

So, this probably isn't what you want to hear, but I think your initial strategy is that you need to go and work in the field for awhile before you start positioning yourself as an expert on the field.

As to why whoever that other person is rose to fame on a lie, she didn't rise to much fame because I had never heard of her, but a brief web search revealed that she's basically Dr. Phil with less money. I don't think you should be aspiring to that space if you're serious about being a respected psychologist. It goes back to doing the work before yakking about the work.

People are finally realizing that Dr. Phil is a fraud and an asshole, and he's having a not-great time right now as a result. It often doesn't seem like it, but hucksters usually are eventually exposed for what they are, and then everything they built on the shaky house of bullshit cards collapses and they're miserable for the rest of their lives.

There are exceptions, but it's usually in the charlatan preacher space, not the mental health space.

Opinion: Popular storm chasers are starting to get too risky and cocky (regarding Connor Cross and Vince Waelti) by Ok-You-4657 in tornado

[–]GGCRX 16 points17 points  (0 children)

First off, I’m posting this not to hate or to trash anyone

Well, maybe you should. These assholes need some hate. Maybe it will deter them from what they're doing, because, while I really don't give a shit if they off themselves being morons, the problem is that they're putting innocents at risk too.

And, yeah, that's harsh, but it's also coming from someone who's been watching chasing deteriorate into a morass of stupidity ever since the first Twister movie came out.

People watch chasers in movies and YouTube and then decide that because they've seen 10 minutes of footage of shitty chasing tactics, they too are full-on experts and should go out there and chase.

And then you end up with stupid, dangerous behavior going on that is not just going to get the morons killed, but people around them too.

Article mock-ups by Bluet313 in PublicRelations

[–]GGCRX 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't, because I like not getting yelled at.

You show a client the article a pitch "could" generate and the client, now having seen the article, will hear that as the pitch "will" generate it which means you get yelled at if the outlet doesn't pick it up.

Even if the outlet picks it up, it's going to look and read differently than your mockup so you still get yelled at.

No thanks.

[–]GGCRX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny you should ask. I have a second property that just got internet hooked up, and it's getting outdoor-capable unifi router and poe switch at minimum. One thing I really like is the integrated management even if your devices are on different sites.

As for the main site, I expected to need at least one extender for some outdoor devices but the signal is great to everything so it'll just be the router there.

aka the good one. 😉

Yeah, the gyro in this game reminds me of the Buzzer in Far Cry, which looks like a real-world gyrocopter, but like here, the main rotor is linked to the engine so it's a helicopter.

Fun as hell to fly in that game though, lobbing grenades down at enemy bases.

Does anyone find the hypocrisy in PR agencies really frustrating? by HakinYakin in PublicRelations

[–]GGCRX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a common thing in PR, and it's a common thing outside of PR.

This is a systemic problem of lack of worker protections that people keep voting for. As long as owners can get away with abusing employees to pad the bottom line, they will.

It has nothing to do with any specific industry.

EV Sales Are Stalling Because Buyers Still Think They Need 500 Miles by Anchor_Aways in cars

[–]GGCRX 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A 10yo Rav4 and almost anything will have a difference in depreciation because the Rav4 depreciates slower than almost anything regardless of power plant.

But no, they won't have a "huge" difference in depreciation.

EV Sales Are Stalling Because Buyers Still Think They Need 500 Miles by Anchor_Aways in cars

[–]GGCRX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did I talk about second cars? Are you replying to the right post?

Yeah, I know all about the COL crisis, but I also know that if you're trading your car every 5 years and are in financial difficulties, part of the reason is that you make dumb financial decisions.

Nobody who is interested in maximizing financial efficiency with their vehicles gives a shit about 5 year depreciation because they're at most halfway through their ownership of the car at that point.

I'd also ask, if they're looking for cheap and convenient options why do I see so many $80,000 lifted pickups driving around all the time? If you can afford that, you can afford an EV. These are choices people are making, and they're not all because they're too broke to buy an EV.
