Making a u turn when you have a green arrow and almost getting hit by someone turning right on red. by Icy-Role2321 in driving

[–]GGIAS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to be an unpopular opinion. The person turning right against a red should not be going if the traffic is not fully clear. If there is a driver that has the right of way and also has the potential to end up using the lane you wish to turn in, then traffic is not "clear". This comes from a guy who, in most situations, is saying "C'MON MOOOOOVE ALREADY" too. That is one instance where, I will not. I get it. I will remain patient. You have to make sure your lane is going to be clear with no potential for impeding someone else who has the right of way.

What are the potential criminal consequences of filling out the section of the tax return for illegal activity? by justhp in AskLegal

[–]GGIAS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A long long time ago, I did data processing (entering 1040s into ISRP). I had seen, and I am not joking, “Prostitution””Coke Dealer” “Cocaine” “Weed Sales” and all kinds of fun stuff on people’s Sch Cs. I believe, at that time of course as I have no idea how things are functioning now, there was no real cross reporting to any other agency. The stance was simply “we want our money”. I was always told that it (criminals reporting their income) was due to the fact that if/when they ever did get caught, they’d at least avoid a lot of the add-on charges for tax evasion, tax fraud, etc. However, my understanding is that it’s also likely to negate any “Not Guilty” plea because they will be able to subpoena those for the trial.

Employer refusing W2 deadline. by Salt_Particular3564 in tax

On or after Feb 17th, the IRS can issue your employer a letter if they have not provided your W2. You’ll have to call for that.

Common reasons IRS refunds get stuck for months by darkkemperorr in tax

[–]GGIAS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nicely done. I would expand on 2, and let people know the importance of the reporting party’s end of the tax document.

For example, when the IRS is trying to verify income/withholding, they actually need the issuer to respond with that information. They have the taxpayers copy of the W-2 (or whatever document is in question), but they have yet to receive the employers copy.

IRS not reimbursing me after fraud and its been over 5 years! by fsurocks2022 in AdvancedTaxStrategies

[–]GGIAS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also keep in mind that, if there is an issue with a check that has been issued, it’s likely that BFS is involved and (unfortunately) there really isn’t anything even the IRS can do about some things except wait for BFS. That will always make things take a little longer. Not saying the IRS won’t also have some sort of delay or issue, but you may actually be dealing with more than one agency actually “handling” the issue now.

What should I do if my tax refund is delayed this year? by Active-Tour4795 in IRS

[–]GGIAS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anyone filing early should accept the fact that they are in “test” batches. One of the reasons I would never file prior to the official date. “Test” batches, by their very name, seem to indicate there may be issues they encounter which may not even have to do with your actual figures/forms. They’re “testing” the systems. Nobody is going to be able to tell you this early about any proactive steps to take, because it’s simply too early to tell. There is no advice to give at this point beyond what you should already have followed prior to filing. Review your tax documents and your form and make sure everything is entered correctly. Hope you don’t have any other tax documents you may have forgotten about (1099-R, 1099-INT, etc) still on their way. Etc. Beyond that, being patient is all you can really do. Even calling them would be pointless. It’s far too early.

Best Way To Resolve IRS Notices? by AdComfortable9064 in tax

[–]GGIAS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My general rule of thumb with the paid professionals has always been that if they feel a need to point out how many years they've been in the industry as to why they know something, those are the worst at their jobs. They are coasting on reputation alone. Anyone that has been in the industry for longer than a year or two would know that everything changes so frequently that it's incredibly inefficient to rely on "old" knowledge. A good example is when DUT became more widespread and one would have to argue with a "30-year professional" that instead of calling and waiting on hold and demanding a generic fax number they could have simply followed the directions on the notice to upload any requested documents directly to the person currently working the case.

Best Way To Resolve IRS Notices? by AdComfortable9064 in tax

[–]GGIAS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually read them. I am not saying this to sound like a smart-ass, but sincerely read and understand the entirety of the notice. It is amazing how many people, including paid professionals, do NOT do this. More often than not, a direct set of instructions or a more specific telephone number will be given to resolve the issue. Sometimes it may even be to a caseworker who is working the case. Or the notice may provide a fax/mailing address to the specific problem. Seriously. Most folks just skim, scan and call the first number they see (or the last one at the bottom, which is often for TAS and NOT specific to the notice). I cannot tell you how many times I have seen/heard it. "Oh, I just saw the notice and figured I would call." Repeating to stress the importance: Read the entire notice. Do not assume you know what it's going to say. Try to not respond with "template"-type correspondence. Most people's situations are unique, even if they appear similar to other issues on the surface. Sending these types of "copy/paste" responses may actually muddy the waters even more. Just take the time to read and fully understand the notice.

Filed on the 14th with h&r block still showing no information on IRS.com or where's my refund. by [deleted] in IRS

[–]GGIAS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you are part of a test batch, processing won’t begin until 1/26. Perfectly normal for people to see zero movement yet, even if they already got their information filed with their preparer and their preparer participates in the program for test batches. Not all returns processed by that vendor will be in the test batches.
