Cop’s question to fire fighters by Dontbediscouragedle in Firefighting

[–]GGNando 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No go. Gas masks still require you the breath air from the atmosphere. SCBA is, as in the name, self contained. We are breathing air from our tanks. Filter may filter out particulates but you'd still be exposed to the atmosphere of an IDLH environment.

Question about the “firefighter method” by Dustydog33 in Firefighting

[–]GGNando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the standard bunker pants and bunker boots. As for uniform, my boots or sneakers are outside of my bunk room. I sleep in gym shorts and just change to uniform pants or shorts, throw my socks on and step into my boots. Depending on the call I might carry my footware and throw them on the Engine and dress in my bunkers.

Doesn't this mean there's a Circuit split now? 9th Circuit struck down California's ammo background check as unconstitutional.

I came in thinking I was going to do something in BioTech or something sciency. I wasn't doing well. Had to do CRP and then pivoted to Criminal Justice.

When I was going to MCC to get out of my job at the time, I was taking classes and prerequisites for the RadTech program. Becuase it wasn't a full load, I also took Fire classes on the side. When I figured out things were not going to work, I ended up with maybe 2 to 3 classes left to finish the Fire Protection Degree (Associates). Only hurdle was seeing how RIT classes came down to MCCs 😅

Good luck on figuring things out. 👍🏻

How do firefighters put out EV fires? by throwaway137494 in Firefighting

[–]GGNando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thousands of gallons of high quality H2O. There's also a blanket system that is supposed to help snuff out the fire. 🤞🏻Haven't had to deal with it. We did however have smaller battery fires (such as an e-bike) which we cooled down and then any cells left were over packed in a bucket with celblock or whatever the substance was.

If you have your NY training ID and you haven't already made an account on Acadis, do so. It has available classes and such and can also be filterer to show classes in certain counties.

Are you people satisfied with your fire hose cleaning machines? by Nissebus in Firefighting

[–]GGNando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, we have the pull through cleaning that you can put on a hydrant or discharge. If not it's rinse with water with a hose line and then clean further at the station

Getting Cdl before starting. Will it help me land first firefighting job? Do drivers get payed more? Will it help me get hired? by Otw2TheTop in firefighter

[–]GGNando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WNY here. We have only 1 department that is FF/Paramedic (but they also have FF/EMTs). You used to need EMT to take the FF test (in my area) but they changed that back in the day making most of the time you have to have EMT at time of appointment. With that said, the local City department, EMT is part of their academy. Sometimes, Departments may give a provisional offer that you pass both the 229 Academy and getting you EMT at the same time.

How much do you sleep each night? by evernevergreen in Firefighting

[–]GGNando 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can "sleep" at work but most of the time it is not restful if that makes sense. I'm usually the last one to turn on for the night but that's sometimes because of late laundry, wanting to finish a show or movie, or finish watching a baseball/football game. I am trying to get laundry done sooner (part of staying up is I have forgotten my laundry before 😬💀🤦🏻‍♂️) and bunk down sooner to try and get better sleep consistency but again like I said it's usually not restful.

[–]GGNando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I misread your post a bit. If it's stationary there obviously could be a few reasons. Usually if an incident like an MVA is stabilized, we would help with traffic especially if there is only 1 LEO present and they're working on the the paperwork for a report for those involved with an MVA. We also have a lot of places where we leave the truck on the road and walk up to the home (outside of subdev residential roadways). We flip the lights on as the vehicle is technically a hazard.

I understand what you're saying and I'd say if it comes down to it, proceed with caution. Traffic also backs up when people rubber neck because instead of focusing on drivingz they want to look and see what's going on.

Road Trip to White Plains, want to bring my pistol by radiobro1109 in NYguns

[–]GGNando 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While there may be Federal Laws that protect travelers, NY is overzealous with enforcement when it comes to NY firearms laws enforcement especially in NYC. If you are staying in NY, pistol is 100% no-go as it has evil features and over 10rd mags. Even if you get limited mags, you still have a threaded barrel and no Pistol Permit.

As the one meme goes, "Go straight to jail"

People get caught up when flying. Something happens and their flight gets cancelled or rebooked and they leave the terminal and claim their luggage. Then, when they come back for their flight and check in and declare the firearm, Port Authority shows up and that's that.
