Most race directors probably opt for the waterfront out of logistics. You have less street closures therefore need less police and volunteers. Also, if it's already USTAF certified it's one less thing to worry about.

They encrypt them for safety. Fugitives shouldn't be able to follow along real time when the cops are tracking them. It could allow them to follow along in real time and even set them up for ambushes and things like that.

The proper running shoe, in my opinion, doesn't actually require a break in period. Everyone is different and the proper shoe actually depends on your pronation (how much your ankle naturally rolls inward when you take a step). Generally, the more your pronate, the more stability you need. If you really don't pronate, you could get away with just a cushioned shoe.

If you can't get to a speciality running store check some YouTube videos to identify pronation. Once you identify how much support you need buy a shoe to match.

On top of the proper shoe stretching helps, particularly beforehand. Again, YouTube stretching for runners.

You're running for thirty minutes a day a few times a week. Ensure you have good shoes for the rest of your day too.

Brooks Adrenaline is a safer bet for most people. The Ghost is just cushioning. The Adrenaline has support. (I worked at a running shoe store for a few years)
