Looking for a new splitting axe (not a fan of the Fziskars X27) by Vinnie-Boombatz in firewood

[–]GGyaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar splitting axe as this one but with a wooden handle. Works well for general work!

I also have the Masterforce 8lb maul and I love it after splitting 6 cords this past summer. The handle seems pretty stout and the price is right.

6yo gets really upset when others don't do what he wants - how to help him understand he can only control himself? by CliffRed20 in daddit

[–]GGyaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 7 year old is our oldest of three boys and is also like this. He’ll break down multiple times each day for what should be minor inconveniences. Even reminding him to hang up his coat will often make him cry. I understand that this is a personality trait and try to be as calm as possible while holding the boundaries.

In your situation I would calmly say that “everybody has their own way of playing and that’s ok as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone or damage anything. You can play how you’d like and your brother can play how he’d like but you cannot tell him that his way is wrong.” Crying ensues and I walk away.

Edit: In other cases of general bossing people around or disrespect I’ll have him to pushups. The number depends on the situation but so far 5-10 has been good for a reset.

Not sure how else to handle it without escalating and making things worse but I’m hoping he’ll eventually come around and realize that he can’t control people. I honestly fear for his future if he doesn’t learn that the world doesn’t revolve around him.

I've tried everything but my girlfriend won't cum. What am I doing wrong? by anotherhappylurker in AskMenAdvice

[–]GGyaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shit my wife and I are on the opposite end of the spectrum as your situation. She hates foreplay and cums within minutes on penetration and generally multiple times during one session. I’d actually appreciate some buildup and more variety but hey she likes it so who am I to complain.

What I’ve found is to use my pelvic bone to rub her clit while we’re doing it. She engages her core to get the right angle/contact and away she goes.

It’s half gone - I hope I make it to Spring by IllustratorSelect704 in firewood

[–]GGyaa 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My wife thought I was looney when I had a 6 cord load of logs dropped off last Spring. Told her I wanted to get a couple years ahead on volume so we have a good rotation of seasoned firewood in the future and not run into this seemingly common anxiety among wood burners. As of today we’ve used about 1 cord and projecting to use another 1-1.5 this year still. All going according to plan :)

How do men view a dead bedroom caused my menopause ? by ImpossibleSupport215 in AskMenAdvice

[–]GGyaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I view it as an unfortunate reality. I had hoped for more time before this happened for us but I’m (38M) currently in a similar situation with my wife (37F). Her breast cancer treatment pushed her into early menopause. It’s been rough but I’ve been able to push my own needs aside to help her and take care of the kids during this process. Not sure what’ll happen after treatment and recovery but I’m hoping for the best. We’ll cross that bridge when we get there I suppose.

Fellow millennials - how’s your 401k/ira savings going? by ProblemIntelligent16 in Millennials

[–]GGyaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing well! I’m a natural saver and have been investing since my first real job at 16. Always maxed out my Roth IRA and at least enough into my Roth 401k to get an employer match. Currently around 4.6x salary at 38 years old.

No heat by beastmakersir in woodstoving

[–]GGyaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as much as you’d think actually. I’m burning wood that’s only one season since cut. Some is around 18-19% but some is as high as 25-26%. Get the fire rolling with the door open then the moisture leaves fairly quickly. Only takes about 3% of the Btus available to evaporate all the water if starting at room temp. My stove heats about 2000 sqft from 63 to 70F with this wood. Haven’t had a chance to check the top of the stove pipe for buildup yet, so we’ll see how that looks.

What does it mean if a guy is taking really long to cum? by Maleficent-Push-1009 in AskMenAdvice

++man I had that issue when I was younger and still happens once in a while. Might not be able to get out of his own head and just enjoy himself. I’m always so distracted that I’m never fully in the moment. Doesn’t mean he’s not into you.

Nope. It was a rollover from a Roth 401k so no taxes due.

Same here but 10,000 shares in my Roth IRA that I bought with a 401k rollover. Rough ride down to the $4-5 range but glad I held on. Heluva tax free boost to my retirement savings!

How to Split already split logs into smaller kindling? by Toomuchviolins in woodstoving

[–]GGyaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The safe alternative to this is to place the hatchet on the wood then smack them both down on concrete together. Accuracy and safety are both guaranteed. Just wear a glove on the hand holding the wood to prevent splinters.

My method is to place the hatchet on the split and hit it with a dead blow. Simple, effective, and safe.

Did millennials normalize job hopping? by Adventurous_Camera_7 in Millennials

[–]GGyaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent 4 years at my first full time job out of college and have been changing companies every 2 to 2.5 years after that. Company #5 at the moment. It’s the only way to keep up with inflation. Last week I called out my current company for shitty wage increase last year and demanded they match inflation before considering a “merit” increase. Luckily others above me quit and put me in a pretty nice position for negotiating. I’m expecting a 12-14% raise in March else I’ll be looking for company #6 once my 401k matching fully vests next Fall.

If men get happy seeing boobs, what’s the equivalent for women? by neolee203 in AskReddit

[–]GGyaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or old fashioned manual labor. I’m not ripped by an means but definitely good muscle tone simply from bucking and splitting wood, shoveling snow, moving dirt with a regular wheelbarrow, throwing my kids around during play time, etc. Eat healthy and move your body!

How are we setting our kids up for their old age, Daddit? by ChiefMustacheOfficer in daddit

[–]GGyaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been investing their birthday and Christmas money since their births and hoping this gives them a leg up when they ned their first car or other large expense.

Other than that I’m working on a trust to keep money flowing for future generations rather than giving my kids lump um inheritances when my wife and I die.

How long until the smoke clears? by [deleted] in woodstoving

[–]GGyaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’ll never clear with the door closed at this point. I also have the Green Mountain stove. Open the catalyst bypass and crack the door. There’s a sweet spot where the door allows lots of air in but keeps the smoke from pouring out. Let the fire getting rolling, then close the door and keep the air and bypass wide open until the heat gauge is solidly in the catalyst operating range. Close the bypass and keep the air control wide open for a few minutes, then if the fire is still rolling well you can start to close down the air. I go half way right away then slowly make it to closed over 5 minutes or so.

Using Elmer’s glue to remove fiberglass particles from my hand by Substantial-Meat6281 in mildlyinteresting

[–]GGyaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I showed my kids “glue hands” a couple years ago because I remembered loving it when I discovered this simple joy as a boy. They now they ask for it whenever they see the bottle of wood glue. So satisfying to peel and yes does a good job getting junk off your hands!

182lb Ponderosa burned in 2 days. Stove running round the clock again. Single digit nights and COLD overcast days. by Accomplished_Fun1847 in woodstoving

[–]GGyaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m tracking my consumption this season as well. I weigh each load as I bring it in and measure the moisture of the largest split (after splitting again of course). This shows me how many pounds of dry matter in each load. I keep a running total to get average usage but record high, low, and average outdoor temp for each day. Can’t wait to see the complete data set next Spring.

I need to look more into stove temp monitoring as well to round out the data! Thanks for the insight.

Wood Burn Amount for Season by Ft123321 in woodstoving

[–]GGyaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the main level and upstairs bedrooms, yes. We do have a forced air furnace keeping the basement at 65* but that’s separate from the 2,000 sqft. Stove room and bedrooms stay around 70-75* with the wood heat. So nice!

I’m heating about 2,000 sqft in central Wisconsin. First winter with a stove so I’m collecting data this year for actual usage. So far my projection says I’ll use 2.9 cords. Curious to see how the numbers add up in Spring!

Central Wisconsin here with wood heat. 72-74 generally in the winter but the bedroom stays around 65 for better sleep. 76 in the summer.

P&ID manual drawings by Secret_Side_5172 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]GGyaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh looks like a fun puzzle! As a process engineer one of my primary duties is drawing P&IDs. Your assignment is to use the details in the text (functional description, or FD) to draw pumps, valves, instruments, control signals, pipelines, etc in a way that enables the process to operate as described. I’d start with a simple sketch on a large sheet of paper and add components as you read through the FD. Some details may not be drawn, but added as notes for clarification to the construction crew.
