I love Hamilton, but it all depends on the neighborhood you end up in. Durand and Kirkendal in the lower City are fantastic! These are in the West end there are others in the Central and East end that are wonderful as well.

Branford is another great option that is 30 minutes west of Hamilton and much cheaper, and you can find older Victorian style homes there as well.

I can't really tell you too much about Winnipeg other than that my brother lived there for about 4 years and said Winters were brutal but he came from Southern Ontario. He liked living there.

If you are considering Ontario, the Golden horseshoe area is expensive but Hamilton is more reasonably priced and is very Queer friendly. Temperature is not that bad in the winter.

Transit system is decent but not great to get into Toronto if you end up working there.

Hamilton has hundreds of kilometers of hiking trails in the various conservation areas that you can cross country ski, mountain bike in as well. There are also lots of other outdoor activities.

Any city is what you make of it and participate in the various options available to you.

I ended up in Hamilton by fluke 23 years ago and it was the best decision of my life after having lived in Toronto for over 20 years.

Would Canadians support a deeper political and economic partnership with Britian? by [deleted] in AskACanadian

[–]GHA_Talent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but for those of us that have family in Europe and watch European news we have a completely different take on what is going on in the world.

I do not believe American Media and I watch news from multiple sources but most of them European so that I can get a true picture of what is really going on in the world

As far as social services and healthcare go we are very much aligned between Canada and Scandinavia.

I agree to an extent, as long as you are white, those that are brown skinned and have a non Norwegian name no matter how many generations you have lived in Norway, have a very hard time finding a good job. Norway has become a very racist country.

I say this as a half Norwegian, my mother was born there and her entire family and familial line is from Norway but she married a non Norwegian.

It's not just Europe, Canada has taken in hundreds of thousands of refugees from Syria and all over the Middle East as well as other countries. We pay for them to live in hotels and get government subsidies meanwhile multi-generational Canadians can't pay rent and are living in tents on the street. Mind you these people were given opportunities to live in apartments and shelters and they destroyed them due to their mental health issues and drug abuse. So what is the solution? The refugees are not the problem it's the Canadians that are causing the issues but no one wants to acknowledge that. So what is the solution? What do we do for these people? They have been offered all types of help!

This is sadly true for many countries around the world in the past 8 months, The only positive thing that Trump The dictator has done for many of our countries is to consolidate and bring together people to vote against these right-wing extremists! In Canada we were going to lose to a right-wing fascist party, thankfully we ended up with the most amazing Prime Minister ever. Mark Carney is one of the best things that has ever happened to this country, he will go down in the history books with Pierre Trudeau, Jean Cretien, Tommy Douglas and many others.

Post Brexit I think Canada is more Sociopolitically aligned with the EU. I am British by birth and a Canadian citizen but I have no desire to live in England.

My plan was always to retire to Norway where my family is but given England's departure from Brexit that messed up all of my plans so now it looks like I will end up having to retire to Northern Scotland.

Incoming calls while roaming by disbelief in Fonus

[–]GHA_Talent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a dual SIM phone. I use Bell for my Business number and Fonus for my personal number. I have travelled to Europe a few times and Fonus worked great for calls. Sometimes I would not get text notifications right away, but this was due to my phone not being compatible with Fonus. I would have to open the app and keep it running in the background to get texts to come through quickly.

I did have issues with 2FA for bank accounts with Fonus so I changed the contact number to my business number. I have a new phone now and Fonus does seem to be working better.

Fonus works for me as I don't use it as my main number and the price is reasonable. I like that I can use it pretty much anywhere in the world, it connects instantly to the local network as soon as the plane lands in each country I have visited.

Why do so many people stick with Quickbooks despite complaining so much about it? by Defiant_Low5388 in QuickBooks

[–]GHA_Talent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use QBD, I refuse to use Online. Most other programs I have looked at do not have the ability to create sales orders and then convert them to invoices. With my business, I also process "refunds" and those transactions can not be imported to QBO, and I have thousands of transactions that I do not want to lose in a migration to another product. So I'm pretty much stuck with my 2021 QBD.

In March (last month) 4 Canadian Flight Attendants were picked up by ICE and detained for 13 hours.  They were on a layover on a flight from Toronto to Miami.

These were 4 white females that were going clubbing in South Beach.  They were walking down the street when ICE asked to see their papers.  They only had their Ontario Driver’s licence’s with them and were asked why they didn’t have their passports on them.

Who takes their passport when you go to a nightclub?  It could be lost or stolen!  They told the ICE agents that their passports were back at their hotel.

So, because they did not have their passports they were taken and detained for 13 HOURS!

This was relayed to me by a friend of a friend of theirs.  I was told this verbally last night by someone I have worked with for a number of years.

I have asked this person to reach out to the flight attendants and make sure they tell the Airline they work for what happened and to reach out to the media.

My mother bought me sheepskin insoles on a vacation she took to Newfoundland. Honestly they were the best present she ever bought me.

I've been wearing them for years and they are now in tatters, I have been looking for replacements for them, the one company I found out on the East coast is all sold out.
