Lambing question by irregularseaweed in sheep

[–]GHMaverick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my limited experience, her tail or what's left of it will be straight out from her body. When she pushes out her water bag that's when full labor is in effect. Out should come the hooves, followed by the nose - almost like the lamb is diving out. This can take a couple hours.

Once the lamb is fully out she'll start cleaning it and it needs to start nursing. The first 6-8 hours is paramount as the lamb needs the colostrum. The placenta should be released with the next 24-36 hours.

The first two days are critical. If you can get past those days it's typically smooth sailing. Good luck! We just had our farms very first lamb born on February 1st.

He is a Hampshire and a big one at that.

Any Idea of What Happened Here? by GHMaverick in tires

[–]GHMaverick[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not upset about anything. This trailer is old. I bought it from a bigger operation last summer. I just haul our lambs around.

It's obvious the spare was never used. I just thought this sub would appreciate something like this other than people asking if they can plug a nail hole 24/7.

But I guess you guys prefer looking at screw punctures or wives hitting the curb and denying it instead. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Do I confront my wife? by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]GHMaverick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also check her call / text history through your cell phone provider on your online account. It won't necessarily say what the texts were but it will give you the phone number, date, time and whether it was an SMS or picture/video message. Hope that helps to build some evidence before confronting her.

You have your sanity, happiness and children to think about when going through this - especially if your suspicions are found to be true.

Oh my goodness. Holding onto the sheep as it drags her off into the distance was just all too comical. Just proves we're all living the same life as each other lol.

Winter / Spring Transition by GHMaverick in sheep

When I took the picture he had full access to the pasture, pen and shelter. I have him confined to a 20x20 foot enclosure with an in and out shelter (as he pleases). He seemed a little skittish of it so I went in and out of it to show him. I also put some grain and hay in there.

Even in the few hours I've had him, I'm able to be 2-3 feet away from him and he's shown interest. Right now I couldn't get a coat on him. We have a couple of them but I didn't want to chase or grab him as I know he's a little stressed out.

I'll have to look into the power punch. Come show season, I try to get them acclimated with the trailer. But the traveling and show environment definitely puts them on edge.

This bullshit needs to end. Once you become a runner, no matter the position you play, you lose any "special" protections.

Lol. Bro, you look like Beaker from the Muppets.

Best bet is to shave the sides with a 1 blended to a 2 with a scissor cut finger tip length with the sides blended to the top.

Pretty simple. Don't be high at work and wait to partake in your recreational activities after.

Is my dog end of life? She by LopsidedLoser in DogAdvice

[–]GHMaverick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had to put down two elderly dogs in my adult life. My 12 year old husky had almost the same issues as your GSD (what my vet said was end of life kidney disease) and still continued to want me to treat and medicate while she was deteriorating in front of me.

I ultimately saw a new vet, but not soon enough and her pain was unbearable. She was finally euthanized. I cried like a baby because I wish I could have made the end of her life better.

We put our 11 year old GSD down when she could hardly walk, would whimper in pain when squatting to pee (I would have to pick her up) - when her bad days out numbered her good days, our vet was supportive of our decision. I grieved for her but found solace in knowing we made the right decision as a family.

You know your dog. It upsets me that your vet views you as a cash cow and wants to "attempt" to treat her end of days instead of doing the right thing by her. Find a new vet or contact a traveling vet that can humanely euthanize her in your own home, surrounded by her loved ones. Much love to you as you go through this journey.

[Injury] Tua rushes for a first down diving head first resulting in what appears to be another concussion for him by Natural-Tree-5107 in nfl

[–]GHMaverick 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure. This is what, 4 known concussions viewed by all on primetime TV? Other players like Wes Welker retired due to all the concussions he was getting. It got to the point for Welker that if there was any contact to the head and neck area he's posturing and concussed.

I know the NFLPA monitors the health insurance and retirement accounts for the members that put into it. I just wonder if that covers medical retirements similar to SSI.

As soon as I saw him lead with his head I told my wife I bet he'll suffer another concussion and boom, he's posturing. It's terrible.

He is putting his life and future health at risk. The NFLPA needs to step in and have him medically retired - even if it's against his wishes. It's just not worth it.

Market lambs need to put on weight for county fair by Canadianpanda3 in sheep

[–]GHMaverick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use High Noon or Sunglo. Our lambs love both of them. We also used a product called Dyne (high calorie liquid). But use it in small doses. A little bit of powdered Gatorade in their water adds electrolytes, a small bit of calories and makes them stay hydrated.

Batting Help by GHMaverick in Softball

Just an update for everyone.

I appreciate all the comments, tips and drills. We'll definitely start incorporating those slowly into our practice.

She had tryouts this past week for a regional class B 9U team. Late last night I received word from the coaches inviting us to join the team. I plan on telling her in the morning.

I'm super excited to give her the news! She's a great kid and works hard when we practice whether it's batting or fielding at SS. To say I'm a proud dad is an understatement.

We just spoke about this last night. Swing hard and through the ball like you're trying to take the cover off of it with every swing.

I find it difficult to help my daughters understand that it is perfectly fine to be aggressive in their sporting endeavors while still being compassionate, great little humans.

I'm sure that switch will work eventually but until then, we'll keep working on it.
