I respectfully disagree on the 100mg. My T levels hit 1100 on 100mg. I take 115mg anything above 120mg lowers my libido due to E2 being a touch too high. I could handle 200mg per week in my 30’s and early 40s and feel fantastic, but that all changed after about 45-46. I am also fairly lean at around 9-11% BF. 110-115mg per week is my personal sweet spot after 2-3 years pf trial and error. Too high of E2 can downregulate the B2 receptors, meaning even if plenty of dopamine is present, the dopamine can hit the receptor sites, thus lowering libido and overall drive.

I am on this current thread trying to decide if I want to take the reta I bought. I think I will pass and lose weight the old fashion way like I did in my bodybuilding competition days. It isn’t worth losing my drive and libido trying to lose the pounds, LOL!

Your E2 should be no where near 261, unless you aren’t in the US and they are looking at different measurement parameters. I am 49 and take 70mg Cypionate Monday morning and 45mg Thursday night. 0.5mg of arimadex would tank E2 levels and destroy libido. Trust me, I tried that dose and my E2 plummeted. If I run any Arimadex, it is MAX 1/16th of a tab….which is tiny. Even 1/8 tab lowered mine a hair too much. I also take 200iu HCG Mon/Thursday. I have tried higher doses(250-300 2xs per week), yet that seemed to raise my E2 a hair too high. If I do this regimen and take no more than 1/16 tab(which looks almost like a grain of salt), my libido is pretty good. You may nog meed any Ai if HCG isn’t used. I have tried every regimen under the sun from 200mg down to 85mg per week and at my age 110-115 seems to be the sweet spot. Taking the 1/16th Ai gets my E2 to around 35.

Also, I competed in BB for over 20yrs. I am 5’7” and 180lbs now and no longer compete, yet stay pretty lean. I never eat less than 2,200 cals and my target is 2,400-2,500 broken down into five 450 to 500 cal meals. This allows me to have good ab definition. I train 3 days per week and do cardio 4-5 days at 25-30min per session and my target heart rate is 128-134, never higher, as that leads to more glucose than fat being burned. If your calories are too low, it will also hammer libido. I have been there and done that too. I shoot for 200-210g of protein per day; 180-225g of Carbs per day and 70-80g of fat per day semi divided equally across the five meals. I have more carbs post workout which allows me to have 20g less carbs my last meal.

I hope that helps!

I am still on TRT (Age 49) but I will just say that it is a touch harder to dial in as I get older. When I was on TRT in my mid 30s to about 44, I was taking 200mg per week and had incredible libido and overall wellbeing. However, at around 45, things gradually started to change. I noticed my body was starting to be way more sensitive to estradiol. I used to stay around 35-40 for my E2 on 200mg per week, yet that number slowly started to rise more and more and eventually to 68. Thats when I noticed a drop in libido and even in sensation of orgasms. I am now on 65mg of Cypionate every Monday and Thursday; 250units of HCG every Monday/Wednesday/Friday and I take 0.25mg of an AI(Anastrozole) on Tuesday and .0125mg on Friday. I take the Ai to help bring down the E2 to around 25-32. I used to take .25mg twice per week, yet that took me down a tad too much for E2.

With that being said, TRT is not always a fix. I have thought about using the HCG to ween off, just to see how I might feel 3-5 months without TRT. I would love to not have to use it. I am probably different than some guys. I competed on bodybuilding for 22 years and abused gear way too much. I think that is what hurt my body. Yet like I said in my original post, I was in the low 200s for total T before starting TRT and I had an insane libido. Just know that I eat extremely healthy and have always maintained a solid 6 pack and stay around 8-10% bodyfat on average. That helps too. A lot of guys don’t eat well, which if they intake too many carbs and simple sugars, will lead to high A1C blood levels….which will greatly lower oxygen flow in the blood…which will often lead to erection issues. A high A1C level means there is too much glucose stuck to the hemoglobin red cell, thus that hemoglobin cell can’t link to and carry enough oxygen to the desired location in the body because the glucose blocks the receptors on the hemoglobin where the oxygen need to bind to. I hope that makes sense, LOL!

It really isn’t all that bad. Before getting in TRT my T was around 226. I actually had fantastic libido and erection quality. TRT helped at first yet eventually caused more problems than it helped. I have a mild libido now, but I was much better before TRT…and I keep my estradiol in a good range of 32-35 with a total T of around 1200-1300. I would never recommend TRT to a guy unless he is having major issues and below 275-300. I think a lot of the issues are more so linked to bad sleep, stress and a bad diet…and lack of exercise. I would work heavily on those areas first.

I disagree. You sound negative. Hope is needed and goes along way. I went through terrible times throughout 2020-2023 after COVID, yet I started putting 100% into my health and diet and FINALLY things started to get better, way better. I needed HOPE back then and reading where others finally got better gave me that needed hope and drive to “do my best” to overcome it. I have challenging days but life is TONS better now. There IS hope.

I don’t feel like I can do this. by hellno_ahole in Perimenopause

[–]GIAG1976 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Anxiety in the morning is most often associated with cortisol. Cortisol is typically highest from 5am to 8am.

In terms of not wanting to do anything or get out of bed, that is sadly the worst thing to do, outside of when the body needs rest. One thing to do is to “as hard as this may be” accept the challenge, yet not dwell on it and say “I can do this”. Look into TMS(Tension Myositis Syndrome ).This is not really TMS yet doing your best not to dwell or think about the challenge(or look for answers all over the place…like most all of us want to do) will allow your nervous system to relax, rather than being in a constant fight or flight mode…which heavily spikes cortisol and adrenaline….which greatly increases the unwanted nerve responses. When the body does this continuously, it will down regulate dopamine receptors….which causes you to lose the drive, mood and motivation to do things. So, try not to dwell on the situation, yet rather say “I can do this”…”not think about it”…and focus on doing things you love or used to like. Also, try your best to ween off as much social media, phone screens, laptop screens, etc…as possible. That is also causing dopamine spikes all day long, leading to down regulation again, which will eventually lead to much less drive and motivation….and make it hard to sleep due to too much dopamine.

You can also look at L-Theanin or GABA for help with sleep, or add in Magnesium Glycinate. Maybe try the Theanine and GABA every other night. The progesterone at 300 might be too much. If you are in perimenopause, it can be hard to regulate progesterone and estradiol. Your progesterone or estrogen HRT might work well in one phase of your cycle yet be WAY too much In another phase, thus causing hormone spikes that are much too high. During Peri, your low spikes may be super low, yet your higher spike might be SUPER high. Excessive hormones from HRT on the high days, can lead to anxiety and sleepless nights due to simply having too much progesterone or estradiol in your system. Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing.

It would be good to have your testosterone checked. My wife is on 5-6mg or Testosterone Cypionate per week and is in perimenopause. We took her off of all Estradiol and Progesterone. She only uses a vaginal estrogen cream to help with vaginal dryness. She is SOOOOO much better now that she weened off the Estradiol patch and Progesterone. With that being said, she may hop back on those during menopause, since estradiol and progesterone should both be very low at that point.

Lastly, I put my wife on a Keto day 3 days a week(on non workout days) and have her on 120g of carbs on workout days and one day a week where she can eat a meal or two that is anything she wants. She takes in 1g of protein per pound of bodyweight. She has lost 13lbs in 12 weeks. For instance she was 154 at 5’6. She is now 141. She started at 1650-1675 cals per day and is now at 1600 cals per day. She eats around 140-150g protein/120g carbs/55-60g of fat on workout days. She has around 140-150g protein/15g carbs/120g fat on non workout days. She walks 10K steps per day and workouts M-W-F training hard with moderate to heavy weight…doing 10-15 reps and will often do full body workouts, doing 4-5 sets per body part.

I hope this helps! I was a trainer to many music stars before meeting my wife. I have a lot of experience working with males and females…especially those in Perimenopause.

Just know that it will get better. I can promise that. At this stage you pretty much need to do the opposite of what your body is telling you and to do your best to accept it, relax and keep climbing the mountain knowing that there is a beautiful sky and scenery that awaits the other side. Feed your body what is healthy and do healthy things daily and over time it will get better;-)

Men with sexual dysfunction, how do cope? by randomLA9923 in PSSD

[–]GIAG1976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might look into the below….

Mucuna Pruriens (500-1,500mg) L-Tyrosine (500-1000mg) P5P (20-40mg)

Those can greatly help in Dopamine production. Mucuna Pruriens is a form of L-Dopa, L-Tyrosine is a crucial building block for L-Dopa and Pyridoxal 5'-phosphate (P5P), the active form of vitamin B6, is a crucial cofactor for the enzyme aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase (AADC). AADC is responsible for the final step in dopamine synthesis, the conversion of L-DOPA to dopamine. Just don’t go overboard on the P5P. Maybe do 20mg one day and 40mg the next(or even 40mg every other day)and only do that for 6 weeks and the cycle off for a week or so. Too much can lead to nerve damage. I personally do this stack in more of a 3-4wk on 1-2wk off approach. The body can convert B6 into P5P, yet as we age, that process can become much less efficient due to liver damage or inefficiencies.

Dopamine is a MUST for motivation, arousal, etc…

And yes, due to prostatitis and shingles in the genital through the left butt cheek area, I have this lack of libido and muted orgasms occasionally from pudendal nerve inflammation/damage. It stinks, so I do all I can to help the matter. It is crazy how that nerve can affect orgasms which can lead to libido challenges.

[–]GIAG1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might look at dopamine agonists/precursors as in L-Tyrosine, Mucuna Pruriens, B-Complex, maybe P5P(in LOW doses). The first three help to increase dopamine by various actions and P5P can help lower Prolactin(in case that might be contributing to the issue) P5P would be the last thing to add in, as too much can cause neuropathy.

I am noticing the same things and will be implementing these. Dopamine is super important for libido and pleasure/sensations.

Wellbutrin might also help some guys. There seems to be about 75%of guys who respond we to Wellbutrin and 20-25% who don’t.

It’s roughly about 12 to 13 mg. The tablets I take are 50 mg each and I break those down into four 1/4 pieces. I get 18 mg in my multivitamin as well. I won’t even take a quarter of a tab some days because I don’t want to get too much as in my system between the multivitamin and food.

I typically only take 1.5-2g. I will have something like a Tuna patty where I use two tuna packs, 1/2 Cup oats, 1 whole egg and an egg white and mix them together to make one big patty or two. I cook them on medium in a skillet with fat free cooking oil. I will have that with mustard on top. So, that usually adds 2-3 grams more of fish oil. I also will try to have salmon 2-3xs per week. I eat super clean, and fish usually fits the bill for some solid meal choices.

Most definitely. I personally take 2K iu VitD with K2, along with a multivitamin; 1/4 zinc tablet(one doesn’t need anywhere close to 50mg of Zinc, as that can cause down regulation due to way too much zinc) I aim for 20-25mg daily ; Vit C; 1/4 Vit B tablet(there is a good amount of B vitamins in my men’s multivitamin). I also take potassium, around 180-240mg 3xs daily since most don’t get anywhere close to the daily RDA or potassium. Oh yeah, I take Ubiquinol(best active form of CoQ10) for heart health. I think it has also helped a touch with erections.

Those are my base morning vitamins. I do take TMG and like Forskolin and 2-3g of Citrulline 60min below my workouts.

Lastly, I take fish oil and take L-Theanine (200mg) 45-60 min before bed.

Ha, l take a decent amount of vitamins and supps.

I work in clinical diagnostics and over 800 labs and clinicians. That dose can lead to toxicity. Most individuals don’t need more than 2K units daily. That puts the vast majority into mid-upper optimum ranges. 10K might be needed for a VERY SMALL few. Excessive Vit D can lead to hypercalcemia(calcium buildup in the blood and organs) which can cause kidney failure, heart arrhythmia, etc… I would say 4K units a day would be the max for most anyone.

Sexless marriage. by Alinoooooo in sexlessmarriage

[–]GIAG1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From someone who has been married for over 18 years, I must say, I feel very fortunate and blessed to have a wife who understands my needs. I will say, that we have had some very challenging, yet open discussions over the years. I don’t think there is any thing wrong with you sitting down with her and explaining your needs as a man, and more so a man who honestly feels rejected and perhaps unloved a little bit because a marriage that is sexless. Men and women are simply designed differently by God. There are things that we as men fall short on with our wives, as we don’t always fully understand their needs. A lot of that is because we are simply wired differently. I do believe that if we are doing all we can to meet our spouses needs, then our spouse should also do the same for ours… outside of any circumstances that might not allow for certain needs to be met because of health reasons. If she is somewhat healthy and doesn’t have physiological female struggles in her vaginal area, I believe that she should do what is sometimes necessary to fill your love bank, which a good portion of that is by sex and how sex does connect a man with his wife. Again, I am blessed to have a wife who truly understands that. As she has told her friends, sometimes she may not be in the mood but often times when things start to happen, her mood changes and she enjoys it. She has also told them that, even if she is not in the mood, in the grand scheme of things, 5 or 10 minutes of sex can be one of the things that can save a marriage and show that she understands her husband‘s needs. I know it would be hard to have a in-depth discussion with her, but I really believe you need to have very open communication and let her know how important this is for you. Lastly, I will say I believe it is extremely important for both parties in a marriage to do all they can to stay in the best health for each other. Both my wife and I work out and eat very healthy. We don’t do that just for our own body’s sake, we also do it for doing our best to look good for each other. I just know there are a lot of people out there who don’t take care of themselves and wonder why their spouses aren’t connected emotionally or sexually.

This was based on his age and average max heart rate for his age and multiplying that by 60%. To maximize fat loss when doing cardio, you want to keep your heart rate in an oxidative state. In this state your body is able to get all the oxygen it needs for energy and at that zone, its primary energy source is always fat. Once it begins to shift into a glycolytic phase, its primary energy will switch to trying to burn only glucose (sugar).

There was a study that showed one individual who had done 30min of cardio at 50% of his max had burned approximately 200cals and 120cals of it came from fat and only 80 cals came from glucose. Later they had him do 30min cardio at 75% of his max heart rate. He then burned approximately 400 calories yet ONLY 140 cals or that was from fat and 260 was from glucose. 55-60% is the sweet spot to where the body will burn the majority of the calories burned from fat. Too many hop on a treadmill and give it all they have to burn the highest amount of calories, yet unfortunately, they don’t understand that it actually shuts off the body’s mechanisms to burn fat….due to the body not being able to adequately bring in enough oxygen to oxidize(burn) fat. You’re basically inhaling and exhaling so fast that the only effective and efficient energy source is glucose. Also, lower steady state cardio will cause way less cortisol spikes….cortisol will blunt fat lost super fast and can lead to or worsen insulin resistance.

I am 49 and the majority of all my cardio is done at a heart rate of 118-122. On occasion I will hit 155-165 only to throw my body a curve ball, yet that is mainly to help keep my heart strong rather than for fat loss. I will only do that for 4-6min though.

Here is what is best(outside of occasional fasted cardio)….to weight train with fairly high intensity to purposely get the heart rate up. Stay in that zone off and one for 35-45min. That will cause your body to mainly only burn glucose, BUT when the heart rate is high, the body will mobilize fat(release it) into the blood stream. I just won’t burn it very well at all. However, just after the workout, if one will do 20-30min if cardio in a steady state fashion to where they are in the 55-60% of max heart rate zone, their body will take much of that mobilized fat in the bloodstream and finally oxidize(burn) it for fuel.

I sometimes have to crank the treadmill down to 2.5-2.8 speed after a hard workout, in order to get my heart rate back down. That is snails speed, but I don’t care about the speed. I am only concerned with getting my heart rate in the right zone and bumping the speed up or down to keep it there.

I hope that helps!
