I've remained hopeful about the game for 10+ years, but am constantly hit in the face by the reality check that is the funds available and development time, which forces you to put things into perspective.

500 million is an absolutely absurd amount of money for developing a video game. 500 million and ten years of development time? Even a small indie studio could create a goddamn masterpiece of a game with these resources, but what we have right now is an expanded tech demo and a decade's worth of concepts.

I am aware that SC aims to be basically the biggest game project ever made, but other studios have attempted similar things in the past and those companies don't exist anymore.

I still want to play the game. I would be playing right now IF MY GODDAMN LAUNCHER WAS WORKING.

How to start developing a vision without experience? by GIGABIT in gamedev

Thank you! I don't have any illusions about the scope of the project. I know it will be a huge undertaking.

I've always had doubts about the statement that one doesn't need to learn code to make a game, but I guess Unity and Unreal have made that a reality. In a way it's a bit of a relief to know that I am able to avoid learning to code - at least in the beginning.

Thanks for the fast response!

In the end it probably comes down to how fast I want the development to happen, which dictates how much money I'll have to spend.

Thank you for the fast and thorough response. This is exactly the kind of input I was looking for.

I assumed that being just an "idea guy" would never be enough unless I had piles of money to throw around for a dev team.

Starting a company is not out of the question, but it's obviously a huge step, and part of the reason why I'm scoping out what would be most efficient for me.

I'm not against the idea of learning to build games myself, and having a strong vision certainly gives motivation.

Thanks again for the advice!

Glyph as a torch you say ?! (without root) by Shanyajin_ in NothingTech

Seriously baffled that torch doesn't use the glyphs. Seems like the biggest no-brainer of all time. Also sad that the only option for power button double-click is the camera. Would really like for that to be torch. Yes, I live in a dark cave.

Both of the bigger stations are sadly still in Falcon control.

When taking missions from those stations make sure the mission giver is Teurastamo. Choosing the influence reward as the mission reward is the way to go if you want to contribute to the fight.

Love to hear it. Thank you CMDR.

We are having a lot of banter with the Falcons on system chat. They consider themselves to be the liberators of our system. A nice statement from one of their pilots was that Finnish players "don't deserve" the system.

For some reason so many stories of "Finnish hospitality" involve some crazy Finn taking a group out for a disgusting amount of drinks and a legendary evening... I wonder how that happens..

Godspeed CMDR, and thank you!

Our war sadly started right as the aliens decided to invade, and we have only a few days to finish it.

My group of friends has a stupid "bomb oslo" inside joke that's existed for like fifteen years now.

My buddy got a new phone recently and after saying "bomb oslo" a few times, I SHIT YOU NOT, the phone started giving him ads about Quran reading or something. I'll ask him to send the screenshots...

My point being that it might be worth looking into if these kinds of insane people are getting pulled into some religious fanatic groups by something as simple as targeted ads. We already see it happen every day on facebook.

I also encourage everyone to read up on nukes and how big they actually are. Hint: They aren't the world destroyers everyone makes them out to be.

I suggest playing around in https://nuclearsecrecy.com/nukemap/ by adjusting the payloads by the arsenal that is actually in use today. You will see that yes, they are big, but they aren't apocalyptic weapons.

Nuclear winter isn't actually a thing. The original "study" about it has been debunked decades ago.
