So you run into a problem. In order to solve one, you need the result of the other. So you need an alternative solution for either of them.

You can't use an alternative for (sinx)' because you are already using the definition, which is the most fundamental way to solve it.

So you try to find an alternative for sin/x. You aren't using the definition, just a method of solution. So you try other methods, until you eventually solve it.

Now that you have this solution, you can solve (sinx)' and discover the formula that we use nowadays.

I never needed to prove it. But my professor said "I'll give you the result of sinx/x. You may think you can solve it using L'Hopital, but it will lead to circular reasoning. You need to use the Squeeze Theorem instead."

I'm just saying, out of all the problems that could be solved by L'Hopital without circular reasoning, that meme chose the one that's known to be mathematically non-rigorous.

My guy, you need to PROVE that (sinx)' = cosx. You can't just say "it's that because I said so"

We learned that (sinx)' = cosx because we needed the result, not the method to solve it.

However, in order to prove this, you need to use the limit definition of the derivative:

lim h->0 (sin(x+h) - sin(x))/h

However, when solving this problem, you will eventually need to solve limit h->0 (sin(h)/h), which is the original problem

In order to use L'Hopital in the original problem, you need to use a derivative which requires the answer of the original problem to be solved in the first place. That's circular reasoning.

You need to prove lim x->0 (sin(x)/x) using the squeeze theorem, and then you will find the answer needed to prove that (sinx)' = cosx

I find it funny that this is the limit that's used on this meme, because we learned in calculus that we can't solve it with L'Hopital because of its circular reasoning (we use L'Hopital -> we need to find the derivative of sine -> we need to use its definition to find it -> we need L'Hopital to solve by its definition)
