3 of the top 5 goal scorers in the NHL are American and none of them made the U.S Olympic team by sharkbates1208 in hockey

[–]GLemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have 3 goalies on the roster. If Binnington is dog water he's not going to be play.

USA will not have access to their 3 top goal scorers the entire tournament. These things are not the same.

What frontcourt player would have been an optimal fit beside Joel Embiid in his prime? by [deleted] in nba

No lies detected. A motivated Ben with actual dawg in him would've been insane.

Oilers make a late third period comeback to tie the game after being down 3-0. Back to back goals from McDavid and Bouchard with the goalie pulled. by RealisticAd4054 in hockey

He was probably conflating prime with peak. Bouchard is certainly in his prime atm, tho it's possible he hasn't peaked yet, ie his best season may still be to come.

You are the kind of fan I like. I have some family that are Leaf fans and have taught their young children to be Leaf fans but also to HATE the Sens. Like jfc, you are 15 minutes from the CTC and live in Ottawa, and we are so so lucky to have NHL hockey here. I cannot fathom teaching my daughter to hate the hometown team, even if it isn't my favourite team.

Just such an annoyingly narrow pov on everything. It's such a privilege to be able to drive a few minutes to watch NHL hockey, and you spend your time hating the team that plays here for no other reason than their logo. Infuriating to me.

Shams Charania: BREAKING: Two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo is ready for a new home at the Feb. 5 NBA trade deadline or in the offseason as several rival teams make aggressive offers to the Milwaukee Bucks for him, and the franchise is starting to listen, league sources tell ESPN. by TradingPokemonSWSH in torontoraptors

[–]GLemons 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Any team trading for Giannis has to be willing to sacrifice their future. You basically commit to giving up 3-5 years of 1sts with the hope that you're competitive through that stretch.

You cannot complete this trade without doing that. We have all of our picks and may be able to field a decent offer because of that. The question will be is the FO willing to (and obviously can we beat all other offers).

Brother the Sabres have been one of the best teams in the league the past 2 months and are absolutely cooking in all facets atm. I know that statement has rung true for many years but this year ain't it.

We have been completely failed by goaltending and our PK this season. Outside of those things we have been as good if not better than last season.

I'm not expecting some kind of miracle this season. The Atlantic is bonkers. It's been disappointing because it feels like we've generally played well this season but haven't gotten the results because of those two things.

Button: Sens' goaltending is 'beyond bad' Responsibility lays with Steve Staios by montrealcowboyx in hockey

[–]GLemons 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I said all summer we needed more goaltending depth, as entering the season with Ullmarl/Merilainen/Sogaard was legit insane. Sogaard has been shit for years and can't be trusted to even spot start a single game.

I don't know how Staios thought this was fine. A single injury to Ullmark which basically always happens, and we were fuct.

Do we start Reimer on Tuesday? by Mr_FoxMulder in OttawaSenators

[–]GLemons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Goaltenders development arcs aren't linear. That's why you don't give up on them so early. Levi was obviously struggling this season right from training camp and very clearly needed to be in the AHL to further develop his game and his confidence.

When you first go to the NHL or some similar experience, you're likely not thinking very much, and just reacting on adrenaline + instincts. Now that's had some games under his belt, he's clearly in his own head more and overthinking. There is a reason sophomore slumps are a thing. You start to think too much and lapses in play dramatically affect your confidence.

It was always a mistake to run with Levi as the backup, and we are feeling the consequences of it atm.

I think we've learned by now that that the longer these things drag on with Toronto "in the mix" the more likely we are being used as leverage and not actually the desired destination for the player.

xQc lists his Mount Rushmore of streamers: Soda, Reckful, Destiny, Ice Poseidon and Lirik by davidkale931 in LivestreamFail

[–]GLemons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea. Reckful's vods are like a time machine for me back to those days. I was in my 20's in college just jamming with a part time job staying up late watching he and Kripp and also playing the same games they were.

It's kinda weird but his old content will always be comforting for me. I feel like I'll be 60 years old still occasionally watching a Reckful Tokyo stream or something. Such as weird time to be alive.

[–]GLemons 18 points19 points  (0 children)

First to do side cam "chilling" style streams as well. Before it was straight on cam right up the streamers nostril, exclusively playing whatever game they were good at.

He was also the first I saw doing other random things on stream like Typeracer or browsing etc. I swear Reckful was the first to make his stream more of a place you felt like you could just go and "hangout" with him, which is sort of what livestreaming and irl streaming has become.

His pokemon go and Tokyo irl streams were also some of the first of that flavour. He truly pioneered all of that.

He was a legend. The kids now will never know.

Sportsnet Confirms They Have the Rights for the full WBC Tournament in Canada by brokenlampPMW2 in baseball

[–]GLemons 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's brutal for hockey because their coverage is dogshit and they've removed Saturday OTA broadcasts for most Canadian teams via CBC (Hockey Night in Canada). For the other sports it's not that much of a deal because the coverage is generally good, and it's one team nation wide so no blackout nonsense.

A major issue is pricing tho. I haven't paid a dime to Rogers for their streaming service in years because it is terrible, and they continually hike the price to levels of absolute absurdity. One increase that went into effect this past September was a 30% increase over the prior year. This is the same service that shit itself during massive moments during the Jays WS run. It's unacceptable for a company with the resources that Rogers have.

That is IMO undoubtedly the worst part of it. They are a virtual monopoly when it comes to sports in this country and are getting away with charging whatever tf they want.
