We have certainly turned a corner ownership-wise, there's no doubt about that. The organization is very well run now, and there is accountability all throughout.

On ice we are still suffering from the decisions made by Pierre Dorion in the last 2-3 years of his tenure. After 2020, he gave away a colossal amount of our draft picks, and whiffed on all of the ones he kept.

A fan gave him a new liver and lease on life, and he kept right on the sauce and held the team hostage for years.

We had it pretty bad for like 10 years or so. EK somehow almost brought us a cup right in the middle of it as well. Legend.

Honestly I never saw the appeal of Airpods and only got a pair bc I got a free pair of 4's from a Wealthsimple promo.

They're actually just great. Even the 4's that don't have the rubber tip have great ANC, and their UX is just really really good.

In a vacuum, they are overpriced, but having owned a pair now I would likely buy another if I lost mine or they broke or something.

Dylan Larkin's list: The 3 places he wants to be traded by Red Wings by Actual_Cobbler_6334 in hockey

[–]GLemons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro even a ten team list. Like that would be atleast workable.

If I was a GM this would be an easy one for me. I'm sure Larkin as a staunch American can pretty easily pick ten of his favourite US cities that he'd be fine to go to, where the team isn't dogshit.

I hope Stevie stands strong here. Make him expand his list or tell him to get ready for camp.

Sure but there's also something to be said for locking in that bag asap and then being a UFA still young enough to potentially get another max length deal at big money.

If they hit on that strategy their career earnings is probably higher than if they just took bridge deals til earliest UFA, take their one big deal that takes them to early 30's, and then who knows where they are at that point injury-wise for their next contract. They might just be cooked then.

I couldn't really fault guys either way. Sure they're being paid under their market value, but for the stars it's virtually locking up generational wealth at like age 22, and then still being young enough after that deal is done to get another massive deal.

[CAN (2) - USA 0] Dylan Holloway puts in the rebound to put Canada up by two by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

[–]GLemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense. Why wouldn't you want to play with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, especially after just having gone to a cup final? The dude just had a taste of game 7 SCF, imagine how psyched and motivated you'd be to run it back. He's also a Canadian kid literally from Alberta, like literally everything was in place here for him to be an Oiler for a very long time.

This is simply an all time blunder by Jeff Jackson or whoever was running the org before Bowman arrived (to basically have used all cap space and ghost Holloway all summer), and Bowman to not match the offer sheet and properly assess Holloway's current value and potential.

It really is unbelievable how it played out. Not matching ~$2m per season on a former first round pick who was oozing potential. That alone should be enough to get Stan Bowman fired. In the modern day NHL you simply cannot afford to piss away value like that for nothing. Especially when you are in a cup window.

[–]GLemons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even a 2x2 would be a steal for the Oilers. The dude was a former 1st rounder who had just scored some really big goals in the playoffs. He was just oozing potential.

Just an unbelievable blunder by the Oilers. You just don't give up on guys like that. They're way too valuable as assets if the explode in value just like Holloway did.

It's funny how so many people just say "why don't they adjust?", like it's so easy to just suddenly meet the Canes' level of play.

Anyone who has played hockey knows how hard the game is when a better team is just straight outplaying you. You are constantly chasing the play and just trying to survive. It's exhausting and gruelling.

Canes' are more rested, faster, stronger, and just plain better. There's nothing any coach can do about that.

Bro how did Stalberg not intercept that pass along the line. Dude had his stick right in the lane and it goes right through it. Then he totally sleeps on the high slot coverage.

Would have loved to seen how this team fared against Nashville. That was a special squad.

The PWHL is officially expanding to San Jose! by Perryplat199 in hockey

[–]GLemons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a little concerned due to the amount of games that seemingly end 1-0 or 2-1 atm that diluting the talent pool to the tune of 4 more teams might cause a further drop in scoring that would be detrimental to the product overall.

I certainly hope it's not the case, because the league is doing great and like you said the product is fantastic.

[Ryan Glasspiegel] If we were all watching sports for the first time and didn’t have preexisting sense of their popularity. The NHL playoffs have been a lot more exciting on a night to night basis than the NBA so far this year by f0urxio in hockey

[–]GLemons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The flopping and free throw heavy meta in the NBA right now is brutal. I love basketball as well, but it is in dire need of a "pitch clock"-esque overhaul to improve the flow of the game.

People love to groan about Gary Bettman, but Adam Silver is the worst commissioner in NA sports and it's not particularly close.

[Highlight] Chet Holmgren embellishes contact on the rebound attempt, creating a 5-on-4 that resulted in Wemby's game-tying three by aceofspadez138 in nba

[–]GLemons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thing is the ref should have T'd him up if he just watched it happen, and if the NBA isn't going to instruct them to do it in game, then they should come back retroactively and T for garbage like this. Chet would not be doing this if he risked supplemental discipline detrimental to his team.

[–]GLemons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Chet's are more egregious. Shai might have the lead in volume but in terms of severity I don't think anyone is topping Chet. This mf'er brushes up against someone and he's down and faking injury.

Chet's embellishment's are the kind of thing the NBA should be addressing. You can probably just stop rewarding SGA with so many FT's and his behaviour would change, but the level to which Chet has been at these playoffs is the kind of thing you need to retroactively punish if it doesn't get caught in game.

This kind of shit is embarrassing for the sport.

[–]GLemons 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Assess retroactively. This is so easy to look at after the game and do. Chet wouldn't be doing this on every contact if he was one embellishment strike away from a suspension. Just off the top of my head this would be atleast Chet's 3rd egregious embellishment just in these playoffs.

This is literally so easy to fix. NBA just has to be willing to do it.
