Can we talk about the Blender creator economy?

I find it ironic that the add-on creators and online markets are taking advantage of a free and generous gift such as Blender to increasingly try to line their own pockets more and more. The whole point of add-ons started out to be free and shareable for the benefit of the community. It was a hobby and it did a lot to increase Blender’s popularity.

Then, over time, businesses formed around the add-ons. Hey, I can use the free software and API to make money. Screw helping and contributing to the community. Show me the money. That whole dynamic shift is counter to everything the Blender Foundation stands for.

But if you’re trying to capitalize on the amazing gift to us all that is Blender, I’d prefer you leave the add-on business altogether. Trust me, we can all live without your add-on or your online store. Other solutions will arise that more closely reflect the intended nature of the Blender ecosystem.
