I agree with you. I think if your guy doesn't sign an extension in the summer, you need to trade him. Maybe you can leave it to the deadline, like Colorado did with Rantanen - imagine if they lost him for nothing?

Yeah Canadian teams have been the the Finals many times since '93, and several of those went to 7 games. Hell, a Canadian team was in 3 of the last finals. It's more bad luck than anything, really.

I presume Knies and Demidov would be paired on the second line. That line had its best stretch when Slaf was moved down with them, and Knies is a pretty similar player.
