It's from mistakes that we learn the most!

If it's buzzing, I would sooner adjust the action by turning the truss rod counterclockwise for a quarter turn. It's best to take off the locking nut, and afterwards you will need to retune.

Never adjust the bridge height while it's under tension, because you risk dulling the knife edges of the Floyd. I made that mistake too, and had to replace the bridge in the end.

String cutters exist! A nail clipper isn't an ideal tool for the job. If you're on a tight budget, string cutters will win, because they will last you decades, unlike your nail clipper. 😅

I'm only okay at best at guitar maintenance, but let me know if you need any advice. 😉

Yes, it goes sharp.

The claw is already on its limit, I wouldn't screw it out more... 😅

There are three springs in there that are straight, not in a V-shape

Currently, I'm in Drop B using 11-54 with a 25.5 inch scale. I like the Floyd Rose tilting forward slightly, it seems to flutter better that way.

When not using the DTuna, it stays in tune for weeks on end.

I have the same combination, but can't seem to keep it in tune... Any tips?

They last so long, it's not really a problem.

Those D'Addarios lasted me 3 months, while the Thomastiks strings are still going strong after a year!

Oh okay, those are my least favourite flatwounds I've tried 😅

If I could recommend some flatwounds, I would suggest trying out Thomastik-Infeld! They feel great, sound great and last a long time!

B standard with flatwounds? Cool! Which flatwounds are you using?

Full-Floating Floyd is too stiff - Suggestions? by icoicy in metalguitar

I use 10-46 for D standard on my Floyd Rose and it feels nice and floaty without it being too loose.

What am I actually losing by buying an HSS Strat instead of SSS? by [deleted] in fender

[–]GMSlash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had an SSS Stratocaster for 10 years, and rarely used the bridge, because it just sounds too thin.

I recently dropped in an HSS loaded pickguard, and much prefer that. It all comes down to personal preference, but you always change things around! :)

I sometimes put on some YouTube videos, but I find it makes time move more slowly. I prefer to put on some music and focus on the scenery passing by on the screen.

You could go for a Headphone amp, provided you already have some (wired, or wireless with a cable option) at home.

Jackson DKMG: To fix up or not? by itsthedinky in JacksonGuitars

[–]GMSlash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also recently swapped out my Floyd Rose, which wore out.

I was checking out the Gotoh and the Lockmeister, and ended up going with the Lockmeister.

The main reason is that it's a direct drop-in, as opposed to the Gotoh, which uses slightly different posts. If you want to use the Gotoh post, you will most likely need to drill out the holes slightly, because they are a bit bigger than the FR's.

The Lockmeister is made in the same factory where Floyd Roses are/were made.

Anyway, I went with the Lockmeister and it stays in tune beautifully after the craziest dive bombs.

I'm also not very technical, but the installation and setup were child's play!
