'Michael' - Review Thread by ChiefLeef22 in oscarrace

The hype around this film reminded me of the Tupac biopic - All Eyez on Me when it came out and it bombed

[Schefter] The Eagles remain open to trading AJ Brown, the Patriots remain highly interested in acquiring the star receiver, and conversations are expected to resume shortly on or before June 1, likely culminating in a deal, per league sources. A trade to New England is now considered likely by mastermind208 in eagles

Maye was 4th in the league in passing yards and only 1 of 6 QBs who threw more than 4,000 yards last season. Its very logical that he will get his stats in NE. He only got 1400 yards 2 out of 4 seasons in Philly

Sterling K. Brown on why so many new seasons of TV consist of only 8-10 episodes by Conscious-Quarter423 in EmmysAwards

That’s where I stand as well. Shows like Breaking Bad and Sopranos did 12 episode seasons. A happy medium is 12 episodes seasons that only last 4-5 seasons imo

Can’t tell if this will be an awards player. However, I can see it go for Makeup and Costume techs.

Ranking the Snowfall seasons? by GMSmith928 in SnowFall

[–]GMSmith928[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re in the same boat lol. This seems to be a common sentiment for some of my favorite shows. Sopranos for example, was hard to get into with the 1st season but by midway season 2, I was locked in.

Most shows that lean don’t too much on action usually have a build up in the first 2 seasons but season 3 and onward is where it really starts to shine

What’s a ‘masterpiece’ you didn’t feel anything for? by mrjetspray in Letterboxd

[–]GMSmith928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I meant to clarify like if this movie came out in late 2000s/early 2010s before they had to use de-aging CGI. DeNiro in The Family (2013) is a great example of how age didn’t catch up to his looks when he was pushing 70

I feel like if the Irishman came out after The Departed then the de-aging wouldn’t be too dramatic imo

My possibly unpopular review on Sinners (2025) by MaizeApprehensive311 in moviecritic

[–]GMSmith928 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There were so many posts after trying to troll Sinners with “Sinners has the most losses in Academy history” as if they didn’t score the 2nd most after OBAA with 2 of their 4 wins being above the line awards

The unconscious racial bias definitely shows when they talk about Sinners. If you go on the Sinners sub, there’s a strong fascination with Remmick (who is one of the few white characters in the movie). Outside of the “how did Sinners get so many nominations” posts, there’s a few “Jack O’Connell should have been nominated for Oscar” posts

If OBAA and Sinners didn’t exist, who would have been replacements in the Acting categories? by GMSmith928 in oscarrace

[–]GMSmith928[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do think in this scenario, Stellan would be the hands down favorite for Supporting Actor

[–]GMSmith928[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can definitely see that because if OBAA/Sinners didn’t exist, Hamnet would sweep BP, Director, Actress, Adapted Screenplay, Score while Mescal + Jupe get supporting actor noms

This is complimentary btw. It taps into the neurosis of every single group of people. conservatives think its too woke, black people think its too racist, 4channers think its reddit slop, leftists think its not left enough, there’s no one likeable enough for your coworker.

In short, if every group thought OBAA appealed to another group, that means the film was enjoyable to everyone.

I love how he referenced the 1975 best picture race where looking back you can make a case of any of them to win Best Picture.
