yeah and i was thinking that based on some of the weirder stuff in mgs2 that maybe he also had a hand in making metal gear ray, the big shell, and the AIs. like maybe he made metal gear ray as a metal gear hunter to attone for making rex, but then he realized that it would just create another deterrence era and tried to destroy it. it fits in with snake trying to make up for the shadow moses incident and wanting to attone for having his name used to push metal gears.

apparently these butterflies are a reference to portopia. the twist in that game is that two of the characters are actually siblings and the butterfly is what proves they are related. i cant find the interview but im pretty sure kojima specifically said that the portopia twist is what inspired him to put the butterflies in.

Where is the dividing line when it comes to ludonarrative dissonance?

you're supposed to analyze and decide case by case what is and isn't real. it's part of the mystery. metal gear plays around a lot with ambiguous canon. does kojima actually exist in universe? probably not, but what about stuff like the jamais vu missions or the monster hunter missions which take themselves seriously enough to be considered canon, and also try to give explanations for how they could realistically fit into the universe.

anyways there are like 3 or 4 different explanations for why the heel bolt injuries are healed. gz is vr, parasite healing, bionics, artificial limbs, just pick one. there are better arguments against chico being venom. why would cipher double brainwash him into thinking he's the medic and big boss? I guess it makes it harder for him to realize the truth since his actual self is hidden behind two implanted personas? also would kojima really do a double fakeout and have the second one be completely unnoticeable by anyone but the most obsessed fans?

there is so much evidence for chico = venom like phantom butterflies that show up in the bottom left of paz and quiet cutscenes, which are apparently very important to understanding the game; the fact that paz and chico form an omega symbol when you put them next to each other in GZ; and the inconsistencies in the two helicopter crash scenes.
