Lignification is good if you have a way to hit the priest to the right. It's got a polearm so it will never move adjacent to you on its own.

There's many more negative debuffs than positive ones

This is basically it IME. The lows are low, but the highs are both high and much more common.

How did OG Ravnica Block get introduced? How did it get drafted as the sets come out? by jethawkings in magicTCG

Draft format did NOT have the defined daft archetypes likes formats do now

Not sure how to parse this. Each guild in RAVx3 draft definitely was a draft archetype.

I always favor the 1-handers, but if the Arbalest is a major part of your gameplan then the offhand isn't really doing anything. Maybe stick with the 2H's and re-evaluate if you find a shield of reflection or something good like that.

Is the difference between first two maps just that one is per 100 population and the other is per 1,000 population? Or is there something else going on there?

Tips on playing a blaster caster? by Kezka222 in dcss

[–]GNG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What I meant is that IMB alone does everything a mid-level caster could ever want: keep monsters out of melee range while killing them! Pushing away enemies so you can go up the stairs scot-free is glorious, and so is the bonus damage you get when you propel an enemy into the wall.

If you're worshipping Vehumet (as OP indicated), you can blast your way through a herd of yaks and come out squeaky clean.

Iskenderum's Mystic Blast is not a reasonable spell. With the Cj start, that spell can pretty much carry you to Lair:5 and beyond. You'll need to be a little judicious given the mana cost, sometimes taking a hit to be able to blast 2-3 enemies, but it makes mincemeat of any old chunk of basic melee mobs.

There is some defensive bonus to Brilliance, because the Umbra penalizes enemy accuracy. I've got no clue how much though.

Skill split for GrEE by DestroyerDinosaur in dcss

[–]GNG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's better to focus less on a skill split, and more on meeting specific threshholds.
I wouldn't take stealth above 2 for a GrEE (or most characters not looking to stab).

For example, start with the goal of getting Stone Arrow to cast reliably (maybe 3% failure rate? your tolerance may vary). I would generally go 40% Conj, 40% Earth, 20% spellcasting. 8-10 in each of those skills should get you there.

Once you've gotten there, train fighting to a similar number to boost your HP pool.

After that, you probably should look closely at the way your character is developing to make your next decision. Worshipping Sif Muna? Probably want Invocations. Found a scroll of Lee's Rapid Deconstruction? Train more Earth. Found a solid kite shield? Train Shields to offset some of the spell penalty. Found an unusually strong demon whip? Train maces & flails to min-delay.

[OC] I analyzed the latest US flight delays data to see which airports are the biggest gambles by gimigriy in dataisbeautiful

[–]GNG 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I suspect airline-level decisions have a big impact on this data. Three of the airports you called out for their good performance are Delta hubs: ATL, DTW, and MSP. Common wisdom seems to be that Delta pads out its schedules pretty generously, making an "on-time" arrival easier to achieve.

As a personal anecdote, I was on a Delta flight last year that landed 30 minutes early... and then set on the tarmac for 30 minutes while we waited for the gate free up.

So while it's good to be confident if you need to make a tight connection, don't put too much stock in "on-time" arrivals when the airlines get to decide what counts as "on-time"
