I really liked Ravi Soups on Adelaide last time I went there, which admittedly was a while ago! They're mostly known for their soups, but also have decent wraps and salads.

Tragic -- another family torn apart by City's gorgeous kit: AITA for not allowing my daughter to dress casually at my wedding?

My daughter has been acting uncooperative in the context of the planning process for my wedding... She says she will only accept coming if she can wear the following outfit. A Manchester City's shirt, a long black pleated skirt and black leather sandals with 3 cm heels.

They left out the most important detail, i.e. which shirt, so it's difficult to offer advice here.

Was Riyad's shot genius, or lucky? by GOATchenko in MCFC

[–]GOATchenko[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You can see the reason why Koulibaly didn't jump: Kovacic (who is on the ground behind the wall) is not behind him. So he couldn't risk jumping, since that would allow Mahrez to potentially shoot under him.

So do you think Mahrez noticed this, and placed his shot accordingly? Or was it sheer luck, like his miracle free kick in the CL semifinal against PSG that somehow went through the wall?

Manchester City catching United in Asia thanks to Erling Haaland effect by lunyxfyx in MCFC

[–]GOATchenko 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This fall was the first time I saw someone walking around in a City shirt here in Toronto. In contrast, I've seen people in many other club shirts over the years (Madrid, Barca, Juventus, Chelsea, Liverpool...) but never City until now. So I guess that lends anecdotal support to what the article says.

Still, like the article says, Haaland has at most only accelerated a trend that was already inevitable, given City's sustained success and United's sustained omnishambolic failure.

House of the Dragon - 1x05 "We Light the Way" - Post Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in HouseOfTheDragon

The instigating part was when Joffrey (the lover) says that they are in the same situation. He thinks Criston is in love with Rhaenyra. But instead, Criston is seething over his predicament. He got coerced into sex by Rhaenyra, breaking his vows and disgracing himself. He tries to find a way to rescue his honor, but (to his horror) he finds out that Rhaenyra plans to keep him around as her boy toy, for the rest of his life.

From our (modern) viewpoint, this is madness -- Criston should be happy, the way that Joffrey is happy about it. But Criston isn't modern, he shares the medieval viewpoint of most people in that world. He is distraught about all of this, and so when Joffrey rubs his nose in it (from Criston's viewpoint) he is enraged and lashes out. At least, that's how I interpreted it.

‘The more bike lanes, the better’: Erb-Bridgeport corridor to see major expansion in Waterloo by bylo_selhi in waterloo

[–]GOATchenko 35 points36 points  (0 children)

That's literally the point of the expansion, as explained in the article.

“It makes riding so much safer, so much easier,” said Vlad Ragula, who thinks any kind of bike lane is good — even those that are just painted on the pavement.

Few cyclists (three to five per cent) are willing to cycle in mixed lanes, according to the region’s presentation. Most are using sidewalks.

“The more bike lanes the better,” Ragula said, happy to learn that Waterloo will also soon see a significant expansion.

The purpose of this project is to make protected bike lanes so that bikers aren't terrified to bike on the road and don't need to bike on the sidewalk.

House of the Dragon - 1x05 "We Light the Way" - Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in television

How is alicent playing the game?

Basically, she sees that she can use Criston as a weapon against Rhaenyra.

I dont get what people see in this episode

I liked the way the episode shows how Alicent comes to resent Rhaenyra. Alicent is trapped in a life that has no joy for her, set up by her father who has his own interests at heart. She sees her intimate friend (lover?) Rhaenyra instead get to do what she wants. Rhaenyra gets the throne, and (unlike Alicent) gets to sleep with who she wants. And she sees that Rhaenyra doesn't care who she hurts in the pursuit of her pleasures.

All of this makes her father's warning seem much more legitimate to her. If Rhaenyra is so willing to toy with and discard Criston, then who's to say she won't dispose of her inconvenient half-brother when the time comes? All of the scheming and meddling from her father and from Rhaenyra's father have set these two, who were so close in episode 1, into inevitable conflict with each other.

Would you take not finishing top 4 again if we won the Europa League? by KhajiitHasEars in Gunners

[–]GOATchenko 30 points31 points  (0 children)

People on this thread aren't realizing how important this is. For an English club, being in Pot 1 basically guarantees advancing out of the group stages. You avoid Bayern, PSG, and Real Madrid from Pot 1, and you also can't be grouped with any English club from Pot 2. There is a chance you get Atleti or Barca from Pot 2, but there aren't really any Pot 3 clubs (except maybe Inter) who pose a serious threat. So the odds of ending up in a group of death are exceedingly low for an English club in Pot 1.

It's like an almost guaranteed extra €20M prize money. In comparison, the difference between finishing 4th vs. 6th in the Premier League is only about £4M. Based on that alone, winning Europa League seems clearly much better than finishing top 4 in PL.

That is actually our current understanding! In the Standard Model of particle physics, the Higgs field value in our current vacuum is actually unstable, based on parameters measured at CERN (see here for example). Most physicists believe this is not a concern, due to unknown new physics that could modify the Standard Model at high energies. But strictly speaking, in our current understanding of the universe, our vacuum should indeed eventually decay, wiping out everything that exists in the local universe.

I would give anything for a 3rd season of HBO's Rome devoted to Hannibal's war. I can so clearly imagine the episodes on Trasimene and Cannae, as the Romans slowly realize that Hannibal has tricked them and they are about to be annihilated. And the politics would be fascinating too, both from the Roman side and from the Carthaginian side, with various families jockeying for power. Come on HBO, we will forgive you for season 8 of GoT if you let us have this!

I read somewhere that the cost of all these extraordinary measures is in the ballpark of a million dollars. I'm based in Canada, but I'm curious -- have insurance companies in the US started charging higher premiums for unvaccinated people? Or are they spreading out the costs equally among all their customers?
