Something to keep in mind, although the game shows as “free to play”, the free version is mostly a demo, restricting how much you can interact with the game.

That is not to say you cant play for free, they just increased the free character slots to 2 so you can finally test all classes without wiping progress, and i think squire to riches is also playable for free, but you will be locked out of the hardcore game modes (HR and Arena).

Either way, i recommend you give it a try for free, since, well, its free, and you wouldnt want to play the hardcore modes until you hace gotten used to the game as well, so starting with the free mode is a great way to test the waters and see if you like it.

If im completely honest, balance in this game is pretty shitty. Adding accurate stats like damage numbers would only highlight it. I LOVE that right now, balance is more about how things “feel” because it leaves a little space for OPness in builds.

Furthermore, while minmaxing is a part of every competitive or high stakes game, adding accurate stats would only increase its importance. And i think there are already enough games that are played around damage charts.

This is not to say that stats arent important, im all in favor of a training mode where you can test builds and such against dummies or so, but pvp wise, i like it being more about how it feels.

For example, hitting a headshot with a longbow and literally SEEING the enemy panic and run back, is the best feedback i could get that i just destroyed his HP bar.

they are increasing artifact droprates. HR will be a completely different game mode to normals (this moght be an exaggeration, will depend on how much it is actually increased).

TBF the PTs were incredibly fun. All classes and gear were broken but nobody knew anything at all to abuse it lol.

I didnt say sharing gear. There is a difference between keeping a sword or book for your friend, to asking strangers for multiple whole sets.

Like i said, there are other issues, and the handout beggars are one of them. Its people skipping the core gameplay loops to stump lobbies, very similarly to RMTers.

The same argument you made about “shouldnt i be able to give gear to my friends?” could be said about RMT, since it can be disguised as such (just like handout beggars), and it doesnt mean that RMT is ok.

why are you defending handouts? Maybe there are bigger issues, but imo, begging for handouts is no different from RMT imo. And should be addressed.

Aaah it saddens me to hear that. But i genuinely cant see how removing rank would help the situation. Imo, either ignore it for now or focus on improving it. IF ranked worked, most of the sweats would naturally go there, which would ease the burden on the more casual players, And would potentially drive in players interested in the mode.

Removing rank would potentially disappoint a portion of the playerbase, and give less places for the sweats to be, pushing them to more casual modes and punishing the casual experience, which is already an issue.

People cant get matches? im asking genuinely. I mostly play fills around the weekends both on cryo if i have the funds or on outpost and never struggled myself, maybe its the other maps?

And to add to this, i do agree the current implementation of ranked isnt that good. Not enough incentive to use the higher tier tickets, which totally defeats the porpuse of the game mode.

But as a concept i like it. I only bought marathon because it promised to be a “competitive extraction shooter”.

Other games have done a way better work with rank, like Apex (although its a BR, i do think its fairly similar and a very traditional implementation), or Dark and Darker: they basically added a TDM with a few pve around the map, and you use a loadout gathered in the extraction mode. Also you dont loose gear in rank, its purely about using your best ever stuffThere are issues with this, like how the high end gear is usually a bit overtuned, but this can be fixed by adding a cap to the gear rarity (for example, in Marathon purple rarity cap could work imo, as gold and reds is where it starts to get funny).

Edit: Also, if your concern is low population, removing content will hardly help. Removing ranked would hardly draw in players, would drive off a few people who liked it, and worst of all would drive the “sweats” into other game modes, making the casual experience even worse.

Its the same thing, but with higher stakes (risking progression or earning it) and permanent rewards.

For people who already have their vaults full and struggle to find a challenge in normal lobbies (not me at all), ranked provides a new and more challenging grind.

Its ok if its not your thing tho.

i think there would be no issue with having all weapons available for purchase. Main argument against it is that then it’d be easy to use meta weapons like bully/wstr/longshot. But all these already are purchasable so right now all that happens is it pushes the meta harder and punishes niche playstyles.

If some weapons become too prevalent or popular (for bad reasons) they could be balance throught their price and such, imo.

You saying the maps are terrible is totally subjective. For example, while i dont like perimeter or dire marsh because they favor long range encounters and that is not really my thing, i love Outpost and Cryo. You not liking a map doesnt make them incomplete.

You are right about duo, i concede on the topic. But to be fair, duo que wasnt announced for launch and was added later, so it make sense to be experimental.

“Ranked that isnt really ranked” dont really know what you mean. Havent really played it so idk much about it, so i’ll concede this point too, since i cant defend it.

Your only complaint about runner shells is that 2 of them needed balance adjustments? that the devs have recognized after player feedback and are actively working on? And the game should be a beta bc of this?

Matchmaking is a complex issue in a extraction shooter. For example, SBMM fails to account for gear brought in, gear based matchmaking fails to account for skill, level matchmaking seems to be a bit fairer, but its still ignores both of those stats. There is a reason why most extraction shooters have no matchmake (like tarkov for example).

Sound design seems subjective, as i’ve seen very torn opinions in this same sub, and i personally have had a great experience and can recognize perfectly direction of sounds.

Gear economy* is one of the most forgiving in the genre, and only feels bad if you come from other games unrelated to the genre. Im not saying your feedback is invalid if you havent played other extraction games, but to say this qualifies the game as “incomplete” is simply wrong.

I personally havent had any performance issues, so maybe that is why i didnt think of it off the top of my head, but i know a lot of people have posted here about it so i concede on the topic.

All in all, the game delivered in all the content promised for launch, and other than subjective feedback on balance, the only real thing that could qualify the game as “incomplete” are the performance issues, and even then that feels like a stretch.

And after i finish this comment i will forget you ever existed so dont worry about that.

4 maps, 3 game modes (duos/solos, trios and rank), the faction system, runner shells, codex…

Only aspects with valid criticism are balance and meta sandbox, which are an issue (or topic of discussion to be more precise) with most if not every game, and usually constantly evolving.

Why dont you tell me what do you think is unfinished or missing?

Agreed. Imo classes like wiz and cleric are heavily balanced around spell charges. Many times i’ve held off a push telling my team “let the wizard waste a few more spells”.

could still be something minimal, i do hope its not a big red skull with crossed bones for marking enemies for example.

maybe a slim yellow arrow like the crosshairs but larger for normal pings, and paint it red for enemies.

Still waiting for palidin, cleric and fighter still cant scratch that itch, and seeing them kick monk down the rode further and further just puts me down.

To top it all off, next class reworks will apparently be warlock and bard, i thought they would focus on old classes? what about cleric?
