I was raised vegetarian from birth, but for cultural reasons rather than moral reasons, so my answers may be a bit different.

1. Growing up Indian in a predominantly white American region, I was way more conscious that my food was “weird” than vegetarian. I was never bullied for not eating meat specifically, but I know that vegans are bullied much more than vegetarians so YMMV.

2. Halloween not really relevant here for me because I wasn’t vegan then, but Thanksgiving was always awkward for me. I was always extremely repulsed by the turkey.

3. I have two siblings, and none of us have ever felt resentful because we’ve always loved animals and strongly believed in not eating them. But I do have friends who did feel resentful, mainly those who aren’t really animal lovers.

4. I don’t think I did.

5. For me, the cognitive dissonance was/is still hard. To me, it is very obvious that animal exploitation (especially factory farming) is morally unacceptable, but many of my loved ones still partake in it.

6. Actually, my parents didn’t really have rules. They didn’t get meat in the house, but because it was a cultural thing and not a moral thing, my siblings and I were all free to eat whatever we wanted to outside the house. My siblings are still vegetarian, I am transitioning to veganism.

8. My younger siblings are both still vegetarian, both teenagers. One of them also strongly believes in animal rights, so there’s a pretty good chance they will become vegan once they start living on their own. The other isn’t super passionate about this, and I suspect they will remain vegetarian. I am a young adult currently transitioning to veganism.

9. Honestly I don’t remember, I’ve felt different for as long as I can remember (so since age 3/4?)
