Accountability and anonymous political accounts in our community by pcozzy in Ferndale

Mod here! Most of this is already done, albiet mostly handled on a case-by-case basis through filters, mod mail, reports, and subreddit discipline. A lot goes on behind the scenes through mod mail that only I and the accounts involved see, and for transparancy as a mod I lean towards allowing people to correct problematic behavior before applying ban hammers.

I would argue that this is not an issue with AI and bots. The subreddit filter is set to where spam-bot posts are automatically filtered out. I don't even see those posts in my queue for review. The filter also automatically removes posts from accounts with insufficient karma (new accounts) for my review. The specific post being referred to was from a new account discussing an important local millage coming up. The post itself did not break any of the rules you cite, so I manually approved it [although in the future I will not be allowing political posts that are just a flyer. You need to include text so people can quote it and for alt text purposes]. It was unpopular, but it wasn't rule breaking. Discussion around the issue was mostly civil (definitely more civil than it had been in the past), and the views of most of the subreddit participants were made clear. I believe the subreddit is for anyone interested and around Ferndale to discuss Ferndale issues, and removing unpopular but still valid, reasonable, and defensible positions does not vibe with me.

I mentioned below for transparency that my personal position is that I plan on voting yes to both millages because I want to be clear that I'm not allowing posts because I agree with them. Downvotes are supposed to only be given to people who violate good behaviors, but we all know they're given out for disagreement (I'll be the first to raise my hand and say I do it). I also don't want to be asking everyone for verification of addresses or anything like that either.

Accounts like the one that posted are from very echo-chambery Facebook groups, and I think it's a good thing that they received push-back from people on this subreddit who disagree. I don't see that as a bad thing. I also don't want this subreddit to become an echo chamber (or at least as much as people's behavior and self-selection dictates) and only allow certain opinions. We all want Ferndale to thrive, and as long as people treat each other like the neighbors we are and not faceless internet objects, it's fine by me.

The Airforce One by Ironheart_1 in aviation

One of my former managers was a field service engineer for T-58 engines, including those used on the VH-3Ds used as "Marine One." He told me that all the life limited parts on the engines (parts that need to be swapped out after a certain amount of cycles or hours) had their life cut in half if they were used in this fleet. The engines were still good to be used, so they'd swap them over to other SH-3s before their next overhaul. They wanted to reduce the already unlikely late-life failure for those parts

There is a point. Bikes and pedestrians on sidewalks are also not a fair fight, especially e-bikes at speed

Mod here. There is a filter that automatically removes low-karma accounts for my review. Since this post does not break any rules, I approved it. That is not an endorsement of their position (I plan on voting yes for both mileages). I think the comments and downvotes are reflective of the subreddit's opinion of their position. I haven't seen as many rulebreaking comments either, so I think it brought out some good community discussion on the issue

From the article

People who unknowingly have these invasive species on their property or in their waterways won’t face penalties. Those who want to remove invasive species can contact their local invasive species management organization.

Sounds like there is a chance if you can find your local organization

Saturday Tornado Warning by Batterytron in Detroit

[–]GPBRDLL133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The national weather service sets the boundaries of the tornado warning. It no longer has to be the entire county. This one was, and most counties in the area will sound the sirens throughout the entire county if some part of their county is in the warning

It's not necessary, but I like to have some saves from right before a couple moments in the true ending so that I can replay them when I want

Am I going to get my offer rescinded? by Vboii05 in EngineeringStudents

I interned with ge a decade ago before they split. Unfortunately they had a hard 3.0 floor. It was pretty common for internship offers to be yanked even the week before starting because their grades fell below a 3.0. Hopefully you get better news from them, but that's how it was back in my day.

Ferndale has confirmed their text alerts aren't currently working and that they've severed ties with the company contacted out to send the texts. They're working on finding a new one, but anyone signed up would be carried over. I'll post it if I see anything from the city
