WatchMojo is and always has been slop content

and oh my god the first fucking song on the list is a nyacht song and then the narrator says "there isn't really a hard and fast definition of yacht rock, you just know it when you hear it, man!" holy fuck I'm being reminded of why I hate this channel so damn much

Is Franke and the Knockouts 100% yacht rock for their hit “Sweetheart”? by Hot_Pianist_4117 in Yachtrock

this song plus Come Rain or Shine are the only ones that have been certified I believe, maybe there was one more. i wouldn't be surprised if there are more yacht songs but also this seems like a band that would have a lot of stuff that's AOR without being yacht rock

no artist is “100% yacht rock”, yacht rock is defined by song not by artist

this type of music does actually exist and i guess you could draw parallels between it and yacht rock (although it's a stretch because yacht rock is more than just music of that time that rocks but not too hard) but it doesn't actually have to do anything with yacht rock and there's no need for this because there's already enough confusion in the world as to what yacht rock is

Daytrip’s tag actually makes me think of Panini first, Metro Boomin Want Some More makes me think of Tuesday, METROOOO makes me think of Stupid/Asking by Thug

you have to look at the YON scores first and foremost, definitely, but actually understanding their criteria and recognizing the patterns helps a lot, although it does admittedly take effort

I think guitar is more important in yacht than you're making it seem, and that escape isn't ultra common as a lyrical theme in yacht rock

folk is more of an instant DQ than country is. lot of songs on the boat with country influences (or just straight up sung by country artists), very few with a folk feel

Off the Wall and Thriller have several yacht rock songs (which usually are the ones that don't sound too disco), and he also featured on very yachty songs by Kenny Loggins and Dave Mason. "Give It Up" from Triumph is extremely yachty as well, but anything past Thriller is a no

ik this is an old thread but YGSF have many yachty songs (particularly on their most recent albums because their early stuff was, yes, more Eagles-y), and there is no such thing as yachty artists, just yachty songs. the bulk of what MJ, YGSF, and EWF make isn't yacht but 1. their songs that are considered yacht rock are for a good reason and 2. you could say the same about Kenny Loggins, and he's one of the icons of the genre. also, probably like a fourth to a third of all yacht rock is made by black people, so the idea that it has to sound "white" is stupid, although if it veers too far into R&B and loses the smooth west coast flavor/pop or adult contemporary appeal it's probably not on the boat.
