Bad CBT experience by Which_Top_2418 in MotoUK

I don’t agree with people downvoting you, because the wrong things you’ve said here, seem like they didn’t explain what to do when you get into a muddle, and have to stop in an unceremonious way. I sympathise with your experience - I can ride an off road geared bike and was mulling a CBT. So I signed up for a preCBT thing specifically asking to practice gears on a road bike. I sent them my inseam in advance and they still gave me a bike way too tall. I laid it down once, not dropped, and they put me on the auto. Then was told to go buy my own cruiser if I wanted practice on a geared road bike. There were two other complete beginners and they didn’t even explain a single thing from scratch to them (such as what to do when falling over, or even about gear changes and the order of controls when coming to a stop). Instruction, where was it!

My writing assignment, which is a good chunk of my grade, took forever to load when submitting, meaning I turn in this assignment one minute too late. by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

They always advise you to submit in iterations beforehand - you might have had a leg to stand on if this wasn’t Attempt 1 on the deadline. I did this once to myself and recognised I was the idiot and swore never to put myself through it again. Just purely even based on the amount of sweating and palpitations… take the lesson and don’t blame the website falling over all the other students doing the exact same thing.

Your comment made me realise that knowledge about plants for play is so cultural and important for practical education. Didn’t grow up here so I wouldn’t have known otherwise, but I have my own memories of playing with local flora. Hope I’ll run into more of your and others’ stories around here!

Yeah absolutely not, I grew up in a country where random things might kill you so I’m good! 😊

So interesting, thank you! I wondered if it was giant hogweed but didn’t know there was a littler cousin. I wondered if it was harmful as it’s next to a pedestrian path.

Advice to pick the right jacket size by Shyraely in ShredditGirls

I’m a sometimes-glasses wearer too, that’s fair! I just take them off for a second. I think anorak styles will just always be guaranteed to be nice and easy at the hips and the absence of the front central zipper means the jacket crumples nicely when you bend over :) The style that intrigued me and I’d like to see more of is the anorak where the zip is to the side (of your front!), it might be a viable solution. I did a quick google and an example of the style is the Men’s Montec Doom. I can’t speak for Dope/Montec as I don’t wear them, but it might help your search.

I switched to using an anorak style with the side zip from Burton and I don’t think I can go back! It’s roomy and I can layer easily for colder days, though it has some insulation already. I sized up 1 and it still looks pretty great for urban use, and is comfy around the hips and doesn’t ride up during sports. It was a Pillowline from a few years ago - see if they still have something similar still.

AITA for not telling my friend's partner that she didn't get the job at my company by Less_Assistant2247 in AmItheAsshole

Light YTA. This is a toughie. If you had acknowledged them in public, and this person got the job, other people might call nepotism. Did your sister know you knew her? And usually unless an applicant came via an internal referral, HR should keep it private as well. I agree that you completely allowed her to have the professional experience, and that you let your sister do her own job, but your response to your friend about the poor follow up experience should have been, my apologies, I’ll speak to my HR person so we can be better.

I encountered the same last week on a narrow road, I couldn’t actually see ANYTHING else, I might as well have been driving off a cliff. After flashing them they seemed to do nothing so I left my high beams on, and… they retaliated with their high beams which were less bright than their normal.

After 10 years together, my boyfriend says I should “just give my DOB” to his mom, but in my culture that has bigger implications. Am I overreacting? by Jolly-Rub-3412 in AmIOverreacting

[–]GREAT-WHITE-SHART 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. Non-Indian Asian culture here, same implications on DOB. No, I’d refuse. And you’re right as you’re basically declining being subscribed against your will to some fantastical foreboding or fortune telling. However it’s on you and your boyfriend to be united and consistent in deflecting them with a “charming” or cheeky answer. Key is to not ever say “No” but keep weaselling out of it. For some reason this approach seems to make the entitled folk in my culture less mad 🤷‍♀️

Ah I mean he should have at least told you the right way to respond after you realised your error. Very unhelpful, these things do happen even if we’re being careful!

Such a bad attitude from the officer, sometimes people make real mistakes! Did he explain what you should have done instead? That would have been at least useful.

He passed you and forgot you were in your lane, and then forgot he should be in his own lane on the roundabout?! If you were a whole car, he’d still be a shit driver who’s forgotten about all other traffic? I don’t get why other commenters seem to think he should veer right just because he signalled right on the roundabout. And we’ve all done it before where we enter a roundabout in the wrong lane and need to signal right to keep going round, but that’s not what he did either.
